Hi Alysa. The first square painting I did was from a different store, and the whole background was in white. The diamonds were not very good and there were gaps everywhere. I heard that you could use mica powder, and at that time I couldn’t find any. My daughter suggested using eyeshadow, and boy….what a difference it made! As the painting (the Tardis) was for my husband, I framed it and put it in his office and it looks absolutely awesome. I did actually use it on a very small round drill canvas of a gnome which I did for the child care centre where my daughter works. It actually did cover the dark guide circles and the picture looked so much better. It is such a great fix. ❤
Yes I believe eye shadow is essentially the same thing. the mica powder I just got from good old amazon. glad to hear you have found it so helpful too!
I'm wondering if it's the same TARDIS I bought about a year ago. I haven't worked it up because I was concerned that the white background would show a lot of gapping. (I was also relatively new to diamond painting then.) Having learned about the mica method now, though, I'm about to try it on a wedding gift I made for a dear friend getting married in about a week. I find the light areas need less help than the dark, so I got a small variety pack of powders. I think anything will he'll minimize the white showing through, so I'm excited to try it out. Will be wearing a protective mask to prevent inhaling it accidentally, though. And now I think I'm going to pull out that white background TARDIS and give it another look. :)
Thank you for sharing this ❤. I also loved how you thanked the Universe as that is how I express my appreciation too. May the Universe continue to bless you ❤️
PS It was neat to hear you actually throw away some of your diamond paintings! How liberating!!! For me it is mostly about the experience so the product doesn't always mean that much to me. Thanks again, Alysa!💖😏💖
Thanks Alysa! I think this process works really well in several instances. I have never tried it on a round, but for the lighter colors it would help to hide any of those guide circles peeking out. Have a great week!
Thanks, Alysa. You applied the mica powder so strategically and it seems to work really well that way. When I watched Jade do it I was concerned that the mica powder would show too much and become an element of the diamond painting in itself. I didn't like seeing it used that way. Your technique seems much more promising.💖
Thanks for the feedback! I actually hadn't watched her video of it I just remember her talking about it a while ago. I am glad this seemed to work well
Very informative video. I have a set of different colors but haven’t used it yet. I could definitely see a difference. Thank you for sharing. I hope you feel better later. Peace and love abide with you 💕
Hi Alysa, thanks so much for this informative video! I stopped the video halfway through and ordered a jar of mica powder and then watched the rest. Changing the subject, I too deal with chronic pain (lupus & fibromyalgia) so I feel for you and wish you well. You’re always so cheerful and positive. Take care of yourself! Dawn
Thanks Dawn! I hope you find this method helpful too! It sure makes a big difference to me! I am sorry you deal with pain too. I luckily have passed the point that it like hurts my soul. I guess Ive lived with it long enough it's part of me. I dont remember what it's like to not have any pain.
Thank you so much for showing this method. I bought a multi colored pack of Mica a while back from Michael’s. I have a couple paintings I want to use it on, but haven’t attempted it. I included getting dark colors because I did Enys Guerrero mystery, which was an older kit, and it has a lot of white showing through. Whenever I get around to doing it, I’ll let you know how it turned out.
I would love to do a Richard Lorenz kit, but haven’t managed to get one yet. I’ve had good luck using mica powder to cover gapping. It made a huge difference.
Hi Alyssa, I’ve tried the mica method with black. It worked, but I think I put too much on at a time and it was so messy. I think next time I’ll try using less like you did. I guess I was just too impatient to get it done. Lol.
Thank you!!! The best place to stay updated on my minder drops is in my fb group Dac Fans - Canada! Link is in every video. I will be having an easter drop tentatively this Thursday on Etsy
Nope! Wiping it away removes the excess mica powder on top of the drills. If you put on too much in a spot the next morning you can take a dry paint brush and brush between the drills again to get any excess if you thing its too noticeable.
Hi Alyssa, do you think this powder will affect the glue on the canvas? I would like to try it in a kit I have but I hesitate to see how it will affect the glue.
The mica powder will stick to the glue which is what you want. You want to do this at the end once your painting is finished. IT will help cover gaps and also any visible guide circles or sympbols.
If you watch the video I walk through how to use it. You want to get a colour that matches the area you want to cover. you only need a small jar of it. you can use a small paint brush or a toothbrush. dip it in the mica powder then brush over the gaps. you can go over the tops of the diamonds with a lightly damp cloth to get any excess p powder off the tops of the diamond
Do you find your neck issues causes issues with driving a car. I had surgery to correct a compressed spinal cord in 2015. Now I have severe pain if I drive a car from the turning of my neck
Yes I do have difficulty shoulder checking. My head can only turn one way. Some times disc surgery fixes the disc temporarily but some may be left with ongoing symptoms. Mine is pain and inability to move my neck much

Thank you for showing us how to do this and I will have to get some Mica powder. I do have this canvas
I am glad you found this helpful! Its such an easy fix and looks great when finished!
Thank you for sharing, Alysa. I did hear Jade mention it awhile back but hadn't actually seen anyone apply it to their painting. Looks good!
Thanks Robin! I hope you find it useful one day
This was super helpful to know especially since I already have a hard time orienting my square drills. Thanks for this tip, Alysa! ❤
I am glad you found it helpful!

Thanks! I always feel bad when I saw that! But I dont have space to keep everything and eventually you run out of people to send them off too
Thanks for this! I think it is worth trying for sure. That painting is so shinny and sparkles. Feel better soon! ❤
Thanks Jackie! I hope you are doing well!
Thanks Alysa! I think this process works really well in several instances. I have never tried it on a round, but for the lighter colors it would help to hide any of those guide circles peeking out. Have a great week!
Yes I think so too! I hope. you are doing well!
Thank you this is crazy ..what a great way to hide those gaps thank you so much ❤️🤗
Thanks! You can borrow some of mine if you want to try it on a painting.
Hi Alysa
Thank you for showing us the process of using mica powder. I am inspired to give it a try in the future on some DD square canvases.
Yes I think it would work well for their canvases.
I have a few lighter background finished paintings that have gapping, as a perfectionist I definitely need to try this! Thank you for the video.
I am glad you found it helpful!

@@thediamondstitcher I love how you said pain doesn’t hurt your soul anymore! Well said!!
I think that’s a great idea!!! Thanks for the tutorial
thanks Josee!
Thank you for sharing. I will definitely have to try it.
Thanks for watching! I hope you find it helpful too!

I bet the dark colours on a mystery paintings would work well!

Thanks you for sharing this as I am new to DP dnd the gaps bother me. Hope you feel better.

I hope you can give your neck a rest for a bit! Thanks for showing us the mica powder trick! I've not heard of that before!
Thank you!!
Thanks for showing this :)
My pleasure! ☺️
Sending Love! It's not easy living with chronic illness. I have 5.... so I get it!
Thanks!! The hardest days are when all conditions are angry at once!

Glad to hear it helps with dark colours too! It is definitely a very tedious task
Where do I purchase one of your cover minders ?congrats on growing channel !

I'm working on Happy Snoopy from DAC! 😊
Fun!
@@thediamondstitcher I finished it last night and am now working on one of the non DAC's in my stash! 😊
I want to see , what it looks like on round drills
If I end up with a round canvas that needs it I will try it!
Does it leave a shine on the painting after you wipe it away? Thanks for sharing!
Nope! Wiping it away removes the excess mica powder on top of the drills. If you put on too much in a spot the next morning you can take a dry paint brush and brush between the drills again to get any excess if you thing its too noticeable.
hi hope today is a good day 💙💜💚💛🧡❤

Do you add mica powder before you seal your work or after.
I would add it before you seal.
im thinking of using mica powders for my gaps but i dont know which to get and how to use it is also a problem

@@thediamondstitcher same here its pretty much stopped my driving ability
Do you seal it after you do that?
I didn’t. I don’t often seal diamond paintings anymore. Only rounds if I want to display them and prevent pet hair from accumulating
Please don't throw it away! I will send you money for it. Lorenz is one of my favorite artist.
ill be keeping it until the end of the year at least :)
Me too!
