I lived in KL for two years. There are beautiful, pristine beaches in Malaysia without mass tourism ruining the resort towns. ( more upscale) Explore Malacca which is rich in history; Penang is full of old history also with the Chinese and British… There are the north eastern provinces that are more isolated and traditional than KL area. And don’t forget Sarawak. Plenty of adventures waiting for you.

I like being here in Malaysia. I love Thailand but the mass tourism and other things makes it hard for me to stay for too long in Thailand. I also prefer the more reserved conservative society here. You don't get hassled a lot in Malaysia like you do in Thailand. I don't care to party or get involved in the *** bars. Malaysia is just a better place. Try Penang and you will love Malaysia even more.

@@williamdahl3318 I agree. That’s what I was mentioning with Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program. It’s not attainable for most people. $100K is a lot of money to put up, especially for retirees.

@@calschroc8902 The newer version of MM2H west Malaysia sets its bar so high that only less than 100 people applied in 2023!!!. It also requires visa holders to reside in west Malaysia for at least 45 days per calendar year. While Thailand retirement visa requires to renew every year which is also a hassle but 800,000 baht in bank about 22,000 usd isn't that bad, also no minimum days requirement.

Check out the Borneo side of Malaysia, there's plenty of great escapades from the big cities vibes, the mountain glamping etc. And there's plenty of beautiful beaches in Malaysia. I think it will be a great content for your friends in Thailand who are not aware of Malaysia and its huge number of foreign expats working or living here 😊

Smart decision - the world doesn’t need yet another Thailand vlogger. I think Malaysia will be much more relaxed but no less exciting for you - and I don’t need to tell you about the food. Plus you will be just as well positioned for trips all over SE Asia in Malaysia as you would have been in Thailand. My ideal retirement would be 6 months in Malaysia, and 1 month in each of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines and back for a month to the U.S.

From De Santis state to a muslim country? Malaysia is the hardest core muslim country in SEA. Who is the most military threat to Thailand and Singapore? The answer is Malaysia. Who is the one who support terrorist in the sounthern part of Thailand. Why Malaysia is closer but Singapore has to park some of its fighters in Thailand. Malaysian chinese don't even dare to put the symbol of dog or pig in front of the store during chinese new year. Thailand is far from perfect but you will have more freedom for sure. Why Thai chinese call themselves just Thai but malaysian chinese is still malaysian chinese for generations and will still be.

I want to explore more of Malaysia too. Not for long stay as unfortunately much too expensive for the visa, but we can do longer visits with their 90 days tourist visa 😊

In the 1980s to early 2000s era there were so many "zombies" throughout Malaysia due to heavy usages of drugs which are easily marketed in black market. Many drug dealers & pushers targeted young Malaysians into drugs thus many have left school & are involved in crimes & robberies..that was the main reason the Government of Malaysia has enforced the death penalty & heavy sentences for those who possess drugs more than the minimal quantity.
We want healthy, dynamic & educated Malaysians to develop the country to the greatest high. The Malaysia government has spent so much on rehabilitation centers for decades to cure drug addicts & gave them a 2nd chance to be a better person Nowadays most Malaysian younger generations don't even smoke & anti drugs however they're some involved in vapes & e-smoking. We don't want a 'Kingston-the zombies town' exist in Malaysia.
For those who like drugs, partying, sex..you can choose Thailand or some other SEA countries.

By diving deep into creativity, you'd see endless opportunities in Malaysia simply because it has all the fundamentals for execution. Beautiful places doesn't make it helpful if you're surrounded with passive audience or community. Of course sometimes you'd need some space alone like a holiday. Still, there are few places here for that like Sabah, Langkawi, Tioman, etc. Good luck on your journey.

I am quoting a Malay idiom "hujan emas di negeri orang, lebih baik hujan batu di negeri sendiri" Maybe someday you will come to understand this idiom ( or "pepatah" in Malay Language) There will be more things to learn from me about Malaysia, people, language and the culture other than your own experience.

Just close to KL is Port Dickson quite famous with locals especially those living in KL, then Morib. Pangkor Island is the next nearer in Perak much better beach experience, cleaner and prestine compared to PD. If you keep moving to states each states have their seaside gems. Penang, Sabah, Terengganu, Johor and etc.

English would be the biggest advantage here, you will not having problem when communicating. yeah we don't really have any alcohol culture (mostly because muslim majority country). just be careful, we love our food here, we eat a lot. haha just be more manageable. learn some malay, it's much much easier than thai.

Wonder how a video on the Orangutans would do? We went to Kuching, Sarawak and saw the Orangs. So cute! You can also visit a native village and long house.

Thailand for better or for worst marketed itself unofficially in sex tourism, drinking, partying. But like you mentioned it has beautiful places eg beaches, forest, waterfalls.
Malaysia did not market anything, tourism ministry is like dead. To be frank. But it is via word of mouth, recommendation, and some accidental visa run, people found out about our awesome beaches, mountains, caves, buildings, cultures, wildlife, archealogical sites, rainforest, food.
And yes we are a megadiverse country for wildlife especially on borneo island.

Yea makes sense, if not for exploring during my visa run I would not really know much about Malaysia at all, everyone talks about Thailand, Vietnam, and even Cambodia in a different way, I think mostly because of budget/backpacker style travel. Even though it’s very possible on a budget in Malaysia too, not sure if they want the backpacker kind of tourist so much but what can ya do. I think I will really enjoy Borneo it looks like there’s so much to see there
