Be sure to keep in mind that metal gets HOT and will happily roast your plants like they're in the oven depending on the season and your region. Choose hardy drought resistant strains if you put in the elbow work to do this 💪

When these cabinets eventually rust out , maybe in another four years , ill definitely replace them because they're free !!

Metal file cabinets are made from extremely thin metal. In a humid or damp area these wouldn't last very long and you'll soon be redoing everything.@@petersvensson1014
Do yourself a favor and make the planer boxes out of something else. First of all those file cabinets will rust out really fast even with a protective coating. And in a hot sunny environment that metal will cook the plants inside. Wood with a liner will last longer, and work better in different types of weather.
First thing I thought of too. Some projects look fantastic on photo day then gradually turn into maintenance nightmares. I would love to see this in a year.
I love them! I need those on the side of my patio that's attached to a work shop I turned into my sewing room. Becaus we retired a bit rural and everything built one at a time and lot is L shaped the side of my patio lines up with everyone's front yard! I may not use filing cabinets but good to see the framing fir lattice!

You’ll never guess what I did with SEVERAL of these perfectly good filling cabinets… I threw all the drawers in the land fill and used the left over carcasses to put plant pots in that could have just as easily sat in front of the privacy screens.

I am certain any woodworker would love to quickly/easily assemble re-purposed/free scrap or pallet wood boxes for use as planters, in exchange for tall cabinets with functioning drawers, whose vertical stacking of storage within a small floor footprint would help them with organization in a small garage shop.
Very creative. It gives you privacy while still being an attractive feature in your yard and you can change out the plants as needed without compromising the structure.
With the lattice in the back, you could even do a climbing plant like wisteria, clematis, morning glories or roses and utilize the top structure even more....these flowers are good pollinators for bees and hummingbirds.

These would be great for hydrangeas. They change color accordingly depending on the rust levels.

She did paint a couple of planks....sure neighbors won't mind. My thoughts were on their patio furniture with specks of sprayed paint.
