Good isn’t good enough. This is one of the most amazing pieces of furniture I’ve ever seen being built. The lumber pieces you use is beautiful by itself which makes this cabinet even more impressively beautiful. Being self taught in several crafts myself, I know how much extra work it takes to get everything just right. You’ve mastered your craft and don’t know it. Also, going from the last video of yours I watched before this one, OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) is what my psychologist called the behavior of obsessing over one thing or person until you “get stuck on another” as I call it. In my case, I would be obsessed with one relationship to the point of losing friends and family because I couldn’t divide my time between them. I also get stuck on things like cleaning or a project I’m working on until I finish it. That I knew I was doing. It took a very good friend to tell me what I was doing with the people in my life and he helped me teach myself how to have multiple relationships at once. I now have family and friends I spend time with other than my husband. In your case, you do amazing things while being “stuck on” your desired skill.

@JonnyBuilds........Jonny, man, you've outdone yourself! I have been with you for years, but out of all your projects, this one got me 😢! Let me explain. My dad had one single tattoo that I will never forget of a skull and crossbones he got during his time in the military! Over the years, it almost faded to nothing, and when I turned 16, my dad said if I paid for his tattoo to be redone, he'd sign for my first! I did, and it looked amazing! This is where I got my obsession with skulls! I have 16 skull tattoos, and I'm almost covered from head to toe. I have been enjoying watching your tattoo journey grow as much as the projects! This project I swear was made for me.....skulls remind me of my father who we lost to brain cancer just a few years ago, the moth is the first tattoo my wife got in a dream catcher, roses are on her and I both, I also have the stars, and finally the quick glimpse of the old school bird I have on my chest carrying a breast cancer ribbon for the 5 family members I've had battle and kick cancers ass! I WISH I could own something this amazing but being a young family, with our first home, and 2 kids I can't afford a glass of water lol you got me with this one man, pulled on my heart strings! It has my entire family in this piece! Congrats buddy, and amazing work! Thank you! "Good isn't good enough" but this is perfection!
“Good isn’t good enough “ definitely! Fellow okie from here in OKC and aspiring woodworker . I am a disabled vet that got back into woodworking just over a year ago. Just found your channel tonight, now have a new favorite. Entertaining, informative, and damn fine. Thanks, hope to meet you soon.
I'm glad you didn't give up or settle because this is my absolute favorite piece I've seen from you. I'm new to your channel and I'm enjoying going through and watching all your videos!
Fun fact, the US is technically metric but still "prefer" to use imperial, all imperial measurements have been defined in terms of metric units since the 19th century. They have a hybrid system which is kinda strange...
I’m in Canada, and when in school drive my teacher nuts because I’d switch between metric or imperial for whichever had a ‘nicer’ number. 20 years later I still do this.
The US doesn't use "Imperial." US customary units predate Imperial. There are differences. The most obvious ones are in the volumetric measures. An Imperial pint is bigger than a US pint.
@@Anggea As a Canadian engineer, our schooling ensured we could work in either imperial or metric. It doesn't take too much work to realize why metric is simply better for engineering, though. It is usually much easier to spot errors along the way.
@@KnugLidiMost American public schools teach metric in the sciences. Americans just prefer their feet and inches for day to day. The UK also has it's own hybrid system.
My dad (also a woodworker) always said "anything worth doing is worth doing right". Your message of "good isn't good enough" reminds me very much of his work ethic and view on things. The end result is wonderful. Well done.
Beautiful! I used to hang around my Daddy’s workshop and watch him build. I’m glad for your channel, because he has passed away. I love the process. Thank you!
I have to say that this IS truly the most breathtaking piece of art/furniture that I have ever seen. The person who got to have this truly has a priceless work of art. Bravo
That is the most amazing piece of art/furniture I have ever seen. Putting skulls on any thing makes it ten times better. You are an absolute wizard of woodworking. Just very impressive and very cool.
So glad to have found your channel. First, the cabinet looks amazing. Second, while I have no space or equipment to do woodworking anymore, I love to watch projects like this.
The rest of the world appreciates your unit conversion at 2:00. But it doesn't have to be 2 decimals 😉 Roughly 32mm would have been enough. It's still some beefy chunks of wood.
I grew up in foster care in Kansas. I recently got into woodworking and found your channel. I always liked this style of furniture but never knew what it was called. You’re talented man, far more than I am. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Jonny, as a hobbyist woodworker, I’ve learned that "good isn’t good enough" from watching your amazing builds. Your personal touch on each project turns them into something truly special and inspires me to elevate my own work. Thanks for showing us how adding a bit of ourselves can make all the difference!
Currently, I’m working a project that I’m using an airbrush for the first time. I’ve had to strip and restart 5 times over as well. I feel your pain and I’m with you on putting in the effort to make something perfect that’ll make you proud at the end when you finally step back and admire what you’ve made.
"Good isn't good enough" amazing craftsmanship! It's rare that I find a TH-camr with both the woodworking skills and rhetoric to keep me entertained and engaged for more than a few minutes. But u sir, assuredly do. In my mind it's you, Malecki and Blacktail on the Mt. Rushmore of TH-cam woodworkers.
Your perseverance through this project is inspiring. Thank you for sharing all the ups and downs you endured to produce this absolutely stunning work of art. Great work!!!!
Wow! I love this design, I love your attitude as an artist, you truly have a very creative and TRUE style! The mere fact you are so truthful and transparent about your mistakes and not just faking it like others would have, It is a blessing to watch you. I love how YOUR SOUL truly nagged at you to do the doors "Even BETTER" and you never "Gave Up" and just settled for less than what your soul wanted. (Ihope that made sense) Great Job, Beautiful piece, I hope you are very PROUD of yourself, Pat that Back you deserve it! 👏🏆
"Good isn't Good enough" my friend! I just subbed as this is my 1st time watching and I absolutely got sucked into your content. I love that you give an HONEST rundown of the challenges that you ran into along the way instead of simply posting a gussied up perfect video and give people false expectations if they were to try to follow along with your video. I also love your tats and weird stuff haha I will see you on the next video. Great job 👏 👍 👌 🙌
As an American traditional tattooer, I appreciate your knowledge and love for the style, it truly is timeless. It was a nice surprise hearing that! Are the sailor Jerry sheets original? Beautiful work as always, love this one!
Big fan of american traditional as well, been collecting traditional and neo-traditional tattoos for 20 years now so I really connect with your inspiration. Love the work great job
As a very green woodworker, your quip about asking a better woodworker when met with a hurtle resonated with me. By chance, when confronted with one such disturbance in the force, I found my dream BFF John Malecki. This was perhaps a week ago, and I have been stalking him morning, noon, and 2am CST ever since. After watching this video, subscribing and liking, watch out buddy, I’m onto you. I’m pretty sure John could never say “good isn’t good enough” with a straight face, but only because that Yinzer is has an entirely too good a humor towards everything. Yet, watching him, and now you, the catch phrase in question is something I aspire to. Thank you. And to those… 2, maybe 3 of you who got this far in reading, and are heavily tattooed like me and my understudy bestie, Johnny B.; stop with the “tattoos don’t hurt” nonsense. They do, and you’re not fooling anyone.
"You watched this far " . This is my first time watching one of your videos. I just love it :). It reminds me fondly of my Grandpa Wilbur and my step dad Steve. Both of whom loved and were great at wood working. Thank you 😊
When "good isn't good enough" drives you to excell and create something you can really be proud of that isn't a mistake or a problem. That is inspiration meeting perspiration. Beautiful work man.
When I'm trying to support someone whom I respect for their diligence in becoming the best craftsman they can become... I say to myself "good isn't good enough!" Keep at it! This project was absolutely astonishing!
Also...the door pulls are epic. I would've also considered two Doves facing each other in some pose or another... would've been a lot harder probably but you know... DOVES!
This is my first video of yours I’ve come across and this is great content. I know nothing about woodwork or art, but this is beautiful, and the struggle you went through to get to this piece was 100% worth it. Good isn’t good enough.
wow, what a project dude! i love how the skulls land on the corner of the bench, i wonder if that was intentional! the tension makes the slats open those skulls when the doors are closed, which makes the skulls pop! the entire video i was thinking "how is his client so patient with him?!" haha. Superb bench! 10/10 dude !
"Good isn't good enough..." - Jonny Builds A really top-notch cabinet build. I learned a lot, and really enjoyed watching your creative process on this from start to finish.
Im in the middle of my woodworking exam here in denmark, im also making a tambour door cabinet with a textured surface. this was great to watch as i have failed a few times in my process, but luckily no this much xD Loved the idea for sliding tennons. might use that in the future. Thanks for sharing.
I am so happy to have found your video! Loved watching this amazing build. Bravo to you for manning up, sticking to your principals and knowing when "Good isn't good enough "! Looking forward to checking out all your videos. 🎉
im sitting here absolutely amazed and theres modern tools being used.... its amazing to think of the types of craftsmen that have existed throughout the years!
I've built 100s of roll tops I started with applied backs like that. No good for antiquity. So I started drilling holes 2 inches from ends and middle to run bike cable wire through. Then I found that weed eater twine was perfect for roll top building. Never had 1 come apart or fail in 40 years.just pull tight and use crimp connection to join twine in back recessed Grove. I build roll tops like that small as a business card holder to big as an 8 foot TV entertainment center. Love your work
Hey, being somewhat of a perfectionist on projects, I feel your pain on this build and truly respect your perseverance in coming through to make a really awesome piece of furniture at the end!
You know what Jonny, you can’t please all the people all the time, so don’t beat yourself up trying to!! I love your channel, and you want to know why, because you give me a wood maker wanna be, hope! You are so honest and don’t try bullshitting us into believing that making beautiful furniture is going to be a breeze, quick and pain-free! So many other channels, I watch, they cut out all the problems, mistakes made while making the furniture and try to portray themselves as master carpenters. We all know “ They are the bullshitters” and we also know that they’re not master carpenters! So I appreciate you for your honesty, you’re a very genuine, nice guy, and I appreciate you taking the time to make the videos while working as hard as you do making furniture and taking time out to put together videos for us to watch. And Jonny, the thing I love the most is your honesty and your storytelling , I ramble also, so I appreciate another rambler. And you have great stories. You’ve had a lot of adventure in your life. I’m in a wheelchair, I had a left leg amputation above the knee 2004 which definitely put a damper on many adventure, opportunities that I dreamed of! I had my own business doing light, carpentry and homes, some tile work would work and masonry, but most of all painting homes interior or exterior ! Due to other circumstances, I cannot wear a prosthesis, so everything I do is done in a wheelchair. (Now I have this dream of wanting to make wood decorations, birdcages, or anything that I could try to sell for some extra money on TH-cam or anywhere else! And you give me hope, because you tell the truth that it’s not gonna be easy and straightforward without mistakes and errors!) So I just wanted to thank you. Carolyn Dignam.
No lie!!!! Thats one of the dopest shoe benches ive ever seen... every great thing is always a long painstaking process but the result came out amazing... you did your thing on this man, great work 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Jonny, I have a suggestion that might be of some help in the future. Build a vacum champer for the infusion process. The next time you need to infuse wood with any material. Use any type of metal talk that will hold your materials. Robe an old compressor off any cooling unit to make your vacuum pump. A refrigerator compressor will work but bigger is always better. By the way, beautiful work.
Good ISN'T good enough!! Amazing piece, bud! Always blown away how tenacious you are, I would have lost my mind towards the end!! Keep up the killer work!
„Good isn‘t goid enough“ but honestly, besides perfect is the enemy of done I personally think just try to do the best you can without burning yourself along the way and with „right not perfect“ you nailed that point. Love the design and, as painfull as it must have been, the way you got there!
That is the most beautiful shoe bench I've ever seen. If i were'nt broke I would definitely hit you up for the "failed" doors. And walnut too! My favorite wood. I feel your pain though. Idk if I would have the patience to redo something 5 times but wow did it pay off. Truly a masterpiece to be proud of.
I like to try to write poems, and poem like things. I have to say the more time I put into one, the more I love it. Amazing piece, my dude! I love how it looks like something my grandmother would hate to love. Please keep it up buddy!
First time viewing anything on your channel. That was a lot of work you put into that beautiful cabinet. I hope you are proud of it. I used to make stained glass, and my eyes would always go straight to my mistakes. I called it the curse of the maker. I wasn't satisfied with that reverse pyramid sliding cover you first made, but knew from your thumbnail it would get there...eventually. Well done! And well worth the subscription. I hope to see more content.
I have the same exact set up and models, same rack and all. I’ve had my combo for almost 3 years and it’s been great. Love Black & Decker, thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your errors and persevering through to make a project you are proud of. I hope to be as patient and level-headed with my catastrophic mistakes someday.
Sometimes good isn't good enough. As I'm getting older I'm starting to see the benefit of making a life adjustment to incorporate this more into my mentality. Thanks for the inspiration. I can't believe you made these doors... 3 no, 4 no, 5 times. What Perseverance.
Good isn't good enough is such an artist quote. I love it. I work at a tattoo/piercing shop, and they have the same drive. Good just isn't good enough. Won't ever be perfect, but that's not going to stop me from trying.

My understanding is that the US uses imperial, but the imperial units are defined in metric.
Is this what happens when you don't suppress the intrusive thoughts that you're not good enough and you must design something better each evening?
My dad (also a woodworker) always said "anything worth doing is worth doing right". Your message of "good isn't good enough" reminds me very much of his work ethic and view on things. The end result is wonderful. Well done.
Beautiful! I used to hang around my Daddy’s workshop and watch him build. I’m glad for your channel, because he has passed away. I love the process. Thank you!
I have to say that this IS truly the most breathtaking piece of art/furniture that I have ever seen. The person who got to have this truly has a priceless work of art. Bravo
Would you ever do a video about DIY wood stains? There's so many cool ones you can make. Especially the ones made of oxidized metals.
There’s some good videos out there already. Not really my type of vid to make unfortunately.
"A sandbox that measures roughly 14 hooves by 17 cats..." Okay, I just died. That's hilarious. 😂😂😂
"Good isn't good enough." Definitely!
Funfact: Abe Lincoln´s hat is 6.9 Standart US Banana widths tall. (AND I HAD THE LINKS TO ACTUALLY BACK IT UP! but I missplaced them...)
3:08 wasn't adopted, ya'll got your metric stolen at sea. :D
34:45 How is Andy wrong?
I love Andys' style 😂😂😂
New subscriber here, Awesome work! Being 57 years old I've always had respect for fine woodworking. Thanks for sharing and I'll continue watching!
I grew up in foster care in Kansas. I recently got into woodworking and found your channel. I always liked this style of furniture but never knew what it was called. You’re talented man, far more than I am. Thanks for the inspiration.
Extreme patience and self compassion are core values when you have a natural passion. Great work embracing that discomfort man, and excellent work
Hey Jonny, as a hobbyist woodworker, I’ve learned that "good isn’t good enough" from watching your amazing builds.
Those brass knuckle handles are amazing!
You make such beautiful pieces & this one took my breath away, gorgeous!
Love the work great job
in art school and i will definitely start using Milanote to keep my ideas in a organised way !!
"Good isn't good enough"
First time seeing you, what a dedication oon your work and such a beautiful work.
Good Isn't Good Enough!!! The brass knuckle pulls are WITHOUT a doubt one of the top 10 coolest things I've ever seen!!!
„Good isn‘t good enough“ this project is Perfect, i love it. greatings From Germany
That is one of the straight up sickest things I’ve ever seen. Masterful. Absolutely loved it.
I would love to teach you CAD! It will definitely help with future 3D models
When I'm trying to support someone whom I respect for their diligence in becoming the best craftsman they can become... I say to myself "good isn't good enough!"
Keep at it!
What a treat to watch all this amazing work, the dedication to the project, the quality, the beauty. A-MA-ZING!
wow, what a project dude! i love how the skulls land on the corner of the bench, i wonder if that was intentional! the tension makes the slats open those skulls when the doors are closed, which makes the skulls pop! the entire video i was thinking "how is his client so patient with him?!" haha. Superb bench! 10/10 dude !
"Good isn't good enough..." - Jonny Builds
A really top-notch cabinet build.
I learned a lot, and really enjoyed watching your creative process on this from start to finish.
Super dope build bro!! I love it!!
"Good isn't good enough" Amazing work and mutch respect for time and rebuild again and again.
Man im glad you redid the doors. They look 1000% "better" isnt the word. But they def fit the style better. Love it
Im in the middle of my woodworking exam here in denmark, im also making a tambour door cabinet with a textured surface. this was great to watch as i have failed a few times in my process, but luckily no this much xD
Loved the idea for sliding tennons. might use that in the future. Thanks for sharing.
I am so happy to have found your video! Loved watching this amazing build.
Bravo to you for manning up, sticking to your principals and knowing when "Good isn't good enough "!
Looking forward to checking out all your videos. 🎉
Unbelievable craftsmanship. Reminds me when I went to a wood carver in Bali, the workmanship was off the charts.😊
Dude. That is amazing. With all the blood sweat and tears you stuck with it and it turned out so amazing. I want one !!
im sitting here absolutely amazed and theres modern tools being used.... its amazing to think of the types of craftsmen that have existed throughout the years!
Love your work
Great info, thanks 🙏
Hey, being somewhat of a perfectionist on projects, I feel your pain on this build and truly respect your perseverance in coming through to make a really awesome piece of furniture at the end!
Good isn’t good enough! Thank you for sharing your growing skill set and choice of tools. You are an inspiration!
And you give me hope, because you tell the truth that it’s not gonna be easy and straightforward without mistakes and errors!)
So I just wanted to thank you. Carolyn Dignam.
No lie!!!! Thats one of the dopest shoe benches ive ever seen... every great thing is always a long painstaking process but the result came out amazing... you did your thing on this man, great work 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
The final project is stunning. Bravo for including your failures in the video, very brave but also very educational for the viewer. Subscribed
Massive respect for getting this done! Epic project.
Great video!
It's always refreshing to see others who aren't satisfied with putting out mediocre work.
I like to try to write poems, and poem like things. I have to say the more time I put into one, the more I love it. Amazing piece, my dude! I love how it looks like something my grandmother would hate to love. Please keep it up buddy!
“Good isn’t good enough”
Love that you keep pushing yourself bud!
"Good isn't good enough" I'm going to apply this to my own work. Beautiful work here. A+
I have the same exact set up and models, same rack and all. I’ve had my combo for almost 3 years and it’s been great. Love Black & Decker, thanks for sharing.
"Good isn't good enough"! First video I've watched, and holy crap this was incredible! Look forward to watching many more builds.
Every statue you've made is very awesome. And the play by play build is helpful.thank you
Thank you for sharing your errors and persevering through to make a project you are proud of. I hope to be as patient and level-headed with my catastrophic mistakes someday.
Holy heck. Gotta respect the heck out of your commitment to perfection on this project.
Sometimes good isn't good enough. As I'm getting older I'm starting to see the benefit of making a life adjustment to incorporate this more into my mentality. Thanks for the inspiration. I can't believe you made these doors... 3 no, 4 no, 5 times. What Perseverance.
Good isn’t good enough! First time viewer and now a subscriber - incredible build! Love the honesty and part rebuilds 👌🏼
That is absolutely the most beautiful piece of work I've ever seen amazing
Jonny Builds is a true "MASTER" beautiful works of art which is also furniture.
I love your take on tattoos being more tangible art. I agree, and I love seeing your growing collection of both tattoos and awesome artistic works
Good isn't good enough is such an artist quote. I love it. I work at a tattoo/piercing shop, and they have the same drive. Good just isn't good enough. Won't ever be perfect, but that's not going to stop me from trying.
Subbed for the most honest build video I've ever seen and a beautiful cabinet in the end. I wish I had half your talent sir. ❤
