One of the cleverest songs ever written. I’m still not sure if I fully understand it 40 years later. Blancmange’s version is utterly sublime, without doubt an epic cover version.
It's just about a person living a mundane life before he (or she, in the ABBA version) met someone that changed his life. He is describing what his days were like before, and how much the same they were.
This is the perfect bookend to the original. And to have Agethna in the video as well just adds to that. it's long been my favorite ABBA song and it's great to see it treated so well.
in my younger days i looked like him :-) Really nice video and nice Track. Diving from Hamburg to Cologne at night in the 1994 - 1998 i hear it from CD and repeat it often. After 400 km i did not recognize the driven distance 🤗🙌✌️🤞🌟
Agnetha is at her peak of beauty in ABBA's video for this.Neil did a first song, live acapella of this on their last but one tour a couple of years ago and it was totally brilliant and somewhat moving.
In 2015 I met someone. I'd been in a bad place. We gradually fell in love that summer. We both loved ABBA. I said I love this version; improved on the original, which I loved anyway; she was less convinced. But every year I would send her this the day before the anniversary of our meeting. "It's funny, but I have no sense of living without aim... the day before you came..." Well, it lasted five years.
… most people swoon over their debut album ‘Happy Families’ which in itself is a terrific piece of music … but ‘Mange Tout’ truly trampled the sophomore jinx, with its corral of strong offerings, ‘Don’t Tell Me’, ‘Blind Vision’, ‘That’s Love That It Is’ & this single … ABBA songs are typically hard to cover with their lush layers & harmonies … yet, the boys improve with their vision of it, rarely said, better than the original
I agree with you 100% and I also love "Believe You Me." Blancmange are one of my favorite bands from the 80's and I continue to purchase all of their recent releases as well. By the way, as much as I adore ABBA, I like this version much better. I hope that is not a blasphemous statement to say to all of the music fans out there in the world. ;-)
@@timwood8912 no don't think you did. Thanks for apologising even though there was no need. Also isn't it great there making music again. Had them,Duran Duran,Abc,Yazoo etc on my school bag back in the day and still love them all. Have a great day and week Tim. Talk again.
It's about the struggle of life in the city. Everybody of any occupations can relate to this song. It's the rigours and pain of monotonous life in the urban world. The daily deep sufferings of modern-day urban slaves.
Pinnacle of parody. I adore the original but keep coming back to this. Brilliant literal clips to accompany the video (especially the Lin Drum fill) and random Gharbar on the TV. So sad we don't have this sort of thing anymore - "I must have made my desk" - cut to video of an Ikea flat pack SNAFU just to keep it Swedish. Shout out to those with a sense of humour.
WOW..
Brilliant the way Blancmange was able to capture the ABBA original here. When you listen to the ABBA original, it is this version. A very 80's new wave song by ABBA.
So underrated; my SO of the time and I (two musicians and big music nerds) were having a pretty bad argument and Spotify was playing rec's in the background - all of a sudden, the extended version of this cover came on and we both shut the hell up, turned our heads to the laptop and just listened to it (argument forgotten). It's so good
Love this version as much as the original. Great version, and just love the original, it should have been more popular then a lot of the ABBA songs. ❤️💙
I Was 14,.. gone to a secondry school I knew noone,.. but the 3 fittest birds in school all liked Blancmange, found out I did and invited me to Appollo in Manchester,..my first ever gig with Three top birds,.. could have made more of it, but I was only young ,and my Yamaha TY 175 was my baby.. couldnt believe they would sit outside Niels mums house in Darwen, lancs, hopeing he would turn up,..his mum actually brought some biscuits out,.. wasn,t there myself,.. scrambling on my Ty175 listening to this on my walkmen...had it pretty good looking back...should of had a threesome with them though,...lol...hope you are all well...enjoy the track
It was hearing this that I realised how brilliant ABBA were - an amazing piece of songwriting, the original was a masterpiece and this version runs it close.

blancmange are just a joy
Agreed 💯
The best cover of the best Abba song.. Hands down Blancmange the best after all these years ...
Ageed it's the best ABBA song, though that's all !
I must have heard that musical style!
I love the way Agnetha is still used in the video :)
Abba gave them permission to use the video clips as they lived Blancmange's version
"This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. The artist's voice is so powerful and the melody is incredibly catchy. Can't get enough of it!"

Absolutely correct.

Fantastic cover of a classic song. Great video with the original Abba. Excellent.
The smile at the end
it's rare a cover version done in the same style nails it. here we are.
But perhaps more clearly psychotically?
Being a 70's product I have to agree that this is the best cover version.
He is gorgeous here xx
Such an underrated song. The 12inch version of this is absolutely magical.

This song was the best ABBA cover versions ever.

I first watched this video in 1988... It's already been 30 years, but it's great.
The best cover of any song.
Yes. Awesome
I love Blancmange, but ABBA are in a class of their own. 😊
Indeed so too.

I think Agnetha’s peak of beauty was in 1975-1976. When ABBA was on American Bandstand, doing SOS.
Extremely handsome man there! Jeez!

The most gorgeous women to ever walk this world without doubt and a beautiful singer to boot. Loved her since 1974.

Fantastic! As good as a modern song can ever be..
Perfect electronic pop, as the original. A masterpiece for the ages.
A fantastic cover, timeless.
