2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD - Fixing Service Airbag Light

  • In this video - I start to tackle another issue with my truck.
I had been getting a Service Airbag System warning light on the dash - as well as the Drivers Information Center.
I did some research - and it turns out that these trucks and the SUV's of the same era like to have front impact sensors that go bad.
The sensors like to corrode because they are under the truck in the harsh weather conditions.
To fix this error - you need to disconnect both batteries, drop the skid plate, and replace the Front Impact sensor.
The sensor was $65 on Amazon.
    Parts Used:
    Dorman Sensor # 590-204 amzn.to/2s1RAuE
Thanks everyone for all of your support!

Great video. I couldn't find the part on Amazon so I just went to RockAuto. I also had no clearance to get a ratchet and socket in there (05 Yukon Denali) so I used a ratcheting wrench and that did the trick. Thanks for the video!

Hi Bud, I just noticed your LCD Radio Scream on your 2005 GMC was this an option for that Model Year? If so, I'm going to see if I can find one and put it into my 2005 Avalanche ... I noticed that the airbag light would blink five times pause then a six blink on start up when it was bad.. now with it fixed it blinks 7 times and goes away

Your video was dead-on. Everything went perfectly. I have the same 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD Diesel. The only things I did differently was removing the positive cables on the batteries and I did not remove the skid plate. I began to loosen the left front bolt and realized the your video view was about the same as mine with the skid plate so I left it on. All of the part numbers (new and old) were exactly as you showed. Even though I was standing outside the truck when I turned the key, I was still afraid of the airbags detonating. Thankfully, they did not. Most people do not realize they are sitting in front of a bomb. Side note: The price on the part has increased. I managed to get mine at Advanced Auto Parts for $113 + tax. Amazon was out of stock everywhere. Thanks again for your informative video. Great job.

I had the same issue. I read the code, cleared it, swapped the sensors and read the code again, and nothing changed. So, for me, I don't believe the sensor is the issue. I'm thinking it's under my passenger seat, either with the wiring or a module.
