Testing the 2018 JLU Rubicon's New $170 Lift on Chinaman Gulch

  • So we set out to find the most affordable lift for our brand new 2018 JLU Rubicon, which happened to be the 2.5" lift by Rough Country - at a whopping price tag of only $170.
    We installed it (you can find the install video as well on my channel) and then immediately took it out to Chinaman Gulch to put it to the test (consequently, we also took it on Carnage Canyon - but that video is coming next!). Anyways, boyyyyy did this lift impress. Not only did we belly scrape SIGNIFICANTLY less, I'd say probably about an 80% decrease, but we experienced zero problems. No issues, nothing broke, nothing bent, everything cleared beautifully...
    Now, with that being said however - I would like to mention as a side note that during the install process, we did notice that the rear sway bar end links provided were shorter than the stock ones. Seemed super odd for a lift kit. After speaking to the manufacturer, though, we were able to confirm that the wrong rear end links had been included with our kit & they're sending us the proper ones! So we should get those swapped out soon, but still worth mentioning that we did not experience any clearance issues on this trail between the shocks and the shorter rear end links.
    Anyhow, super impressed with the lift kit and how it performed! Stay tuned for the Carnage Canyon footage!!!

    You know. You guys are awesome. Not too many actual wheeling videos out on the JL’s yet. And the ones you do see are heavily modified. Love how you are doing it the regular persons way and documenting very well your successes and “failures”. Keep it up guys.

    Chinaman Gulch is one of my favorite runs! Glad you are having fun with your new toy. My Rubicon is just about 3 years old now, but I gave it the first battle scars when it was 2 days old. Glad to see others using their Jeep on the fun trails.

    Nice job on the video. A 2.5" lift and 35's make a huge difference from stock. I run the same Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tires and will not run anything else. They grip like nothing I've seen. I'll be running this same trail this coming weekend so thank you...

    Great video again, in your case the shock was extremely close but didn’t hit, but still worth the 40 bucks to put 11.5” sway links on the rear. The already loaded sway bar because if the links being a couple inches short, tightens up the rear sway affecting articulation from being as loose. Almost like having front one connected in a way. Worth the 40 bucks and 30 minutes to replace. I just saw another company’s release of there spacer lift and their links was clearly 11”

    • @LiteBrite
      @LiteBrite  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Darnell Yeah, we called the manufacturer & supposedly several kits were packed with the wrong rear end links. They're sending us the correct ones, which are supposed to be longer.

    • @markdarnell2792
      @markdarnell2792 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lite Brite that’s great RC is sending you the right ones, I called them and told them the ones they sent was actually a inch shorter than stock, the guy said that is the ones that we put in our kit. I said they are clearly 1 inch shorter instead of 2” longer. He hung the phone up on me. I have not been real happy with Rough Country customer service since then.

    • @LiteBrite
      @LiteBrite  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Darnell Holy moly, talk about rude. I'd have been pissed. The guy we talked to seemed to immediately know what we were talking about.

    • @markdarnell2792
      @markdarnell2792 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lite Brite yep wasn’t happy, immediately scrabbled to find the right lengths I needed, cost me 42 bucks to get them but I guess it is what it is. I am glad you did the same trail to see the difference in height from scrubbing, seems like it’s all the lift anyone will need with a little scrapping but not really hurting the Jeep.

    Where did you get the spacers for your wheels from?

  • @TheCretaFamily
    @TheCretaFamily 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Noob question but I thought that the only thing a lift really did was allow larger tires and it's the tires that gave added clearance. Are you saying that this spacer lift actually gave more clearance with the same tires? Are these the stock 33" tires? Thanks!

    Would just this spacer kit be fine without changing the factory springs and shocks? Or is recommended to buy the 2.5 kit with new shocks and springs so the factor springs aren't maxed out?
