    • @TMATDP
      @TMATDP 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      +Human Observer I think they're all equal in their roles when carrying the band. Maynards voice isn't quite as strong as it once was, but it's matured - it's softer now, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. To me, his lyrics are unparalleled. Also, don't forget Justin; practically rewrote the book on playing bass. They're all incredible.

      It's been a while since I've looked, but I'm pretty sure this is the song that talks about Saturn in astrology, which returns 29/30 after you're born - pretty big transition period for most. Here, most of us either sink or swim, in life from this point on. We sink if we don't let go of control, of old habits and paradigms...when we let go of it all, we're freed. Regardless, Saturn will teach us whether we're willing to learn or not.
      I believe there are also references to the crown, or the crown chakra and the Tree of Life in Kabbalah.

      i am studying music for a living now... and i saw them around this time... maybe a little bit before... and i'm glad i did. that being said, i came to the shows right after lateralus was released and i was slightly disappointed that maynard was going through his "i'm a black shadow" visual phase, and you could tell the scream-sing parts had become more singing than screaming. there were parts where he would break through, but for instance on a song like stinkfist it is obvious. like someone said earlier, that's just life. i was born a smidge too late to see them in what i personally think was their prime of 96-00. hell i was just a kid when i saw the shows i did. watching this and a '98 show confirms that i wasn't crazy or hearing things... you can just only scream for so long even if it's melodic as maynard's. RIP maynard's scream.

      BXCDavid my oldest brother did the same and went to see them at the time during their Lateralus tour and he was in his mid 20s but he went two nights in a row and said the show was incredible. he still to this day listens to them and other great rock bands of the 70’s to 90s. I got into this band during the release of 10 thousand days and been attached ever since. My brother saw them at the time in NY I think at MSG.

      I was 11. I begged and begged to go to the October 31 show in 2002 where I was 12. Still hate my mom for not letting me go that bitch. Saw them first time 10/07/06 just saw them for them 6th time the only tour I missed them on since 06 was 2017 and it sucks cuz that was a sick set list with third eye and shit. If I went to a man show in 2012 I could have seen ticks and leeches. But instead I got sober with some weird dude doing weird shit with a mic. It was cool but that part was whack and they could have played a whole damn song Instead of that shit. Anyway I never learn my lesson only going to one show cuz I wanted to see the patient live. I saw right in two which I love but the patient is all time favorite. If only I went to NJ as well as NY fuck my life. I grew up as a teen in the 80's and I found Metallica. I thought they were the end-all band that would never be topped. Then I found Tool as a young Marine in the 90's. There has been, and never will be, another band like Tool. Combining Shamanistic music with lyrics, ESPECIALLY in songs like 46 & 2, Reflection and Lateralus... if Tool is not your favorite band as someone who loves this kind of music... I'd love to hear your argument.
    On another note, to complete this mythology of Tool, look at them live. Not a single note dropped from studio except on purpose, and when they do... the showmanship and professionalism presented is nothing short of perfect...

      I too, found Metallica in the 80's as a teen. I THOUGHT they were an end-all band (THEY WERE NOT) UNTIL poor 'ol Cliff died! Not saying anything bad about Jason, but they started to gradually go downhill after the passing of Cliff, I would say. They totally went commercial after "...and justice for all". No videos until they made "one" and that was SUPPOSEDLY going to be the only one! Then bam! Videos! And songs like "whiskey in a jar-o" and "fuel" (to name a couple) just annoyed the crap out of me. This strange phenomenon has not happened to TOOL, and none of their songs have ever annoyed the crap out of me at all! I'm glad I found TOOL! They are the band that sustains life on our planet! At least mine anyway!

    I still get goosebumps every time I listen to this version of H. I wish I could see them again. Maybe someday. My first Tool show was in Albany, NY in 2001 and it was incredible. I know I've thanked you before for the content you put up, so don't take my next statement as criticism please. The videos are great, but to me it's kind of like a picture of Niagara Falls or the Grand Canyon. It can remind you, but pales in comparison to actually being there. Similar set list to this. I did see them in 2002 as well in Buffalo, NY (I'm in Rochester). One thing I haven't ever seen a good video of yet though is the performances put on by two contortionists with them during the early part of the Lateralus tour. As I remember at the Albany show they were on stage briefly during Schism, and then later did an incredible 20+ minute routine suspended upside down over the stage through the entirety of Disposition/Reflection/Triad. That show blew me away.
