Hi friend! Yes, the Hutchinson Island portion was filmed in April of this year. The Blowing Rocks, and Hobe Sound segments were filmed last August. The B-roll at the beginning is an amalgamation of other shelling trips throughout SE Florida over the past few years. Shelling here is quite hit or miss from my experience, and I would say that I definitely was a little luckier at Hutchinson Island. Interestingly enough, I have another Hutchinson Island episode where I found even more variety - I'll release that sometime in the near future. Thanks as always for watching! 💙

Went to blowing rocks yesterday and there were No Shells whatsoever. There was a huge shelf of sand and the water was crazy even at low tide. Walked and walked the beach and found nothing. The rock formations are covered by sand so not sure when you filmed this. I had good luck at Juno fortunately so my east coast tromp was not a total bust! The beach is always changing!

I was staying at my family's in Maine this week and did not have access to my usual studio mic so I had to improvise and use a different microphone - definitely not AI, lol. I just released an episode on Maine shelling where I discuss cleaning shells with bleach! Bleach is great at removing "gunk" - sometimes after a bleach soak, you'll have to use a small tool to remove any lingering gunk, but the bleach helps to dissolve, and loosen everything up. These are heavily surf worn and missing their thorny knuckles. They mostly originate in the mud flats of the Indian River Lagoon. By the time they make it to the beach they’ve lost their colors and become smooth
@drdrew3 answered this question nicely here 💛 There are different species of Crown Conch, but only one primary species is present in Florida, the Florida Crown Conch, also know as the King's Crown Conch. I think there may also be sub-species present, particularly in the Keys Reef Tract, but I am not as versed in identifying these nuanced differences. My friend, Dr. Ed Petuch has written some great, and informative literature on detailed variations of mollusc species found in Florida including the Crown Conch. Thank you for sharing! Enjoy your videos. This maybe off topic but when i bleach my shells they seem to fell chalky when i rinse them, any ideas?
Chalky shells have a calcium deposits that are easily removed with a quick muriatic acid dip. Save the chlorine for removing barnacles and green algae

Are there any other kinds of crown conchs? These look different from the other places in Florida.
