Thank you so much, this was the perfect information that I needed for my September trip. You found some awesome treasures there 🐚😊 I really appreciate your wisdom and the time and effort you put into these amazing vlogs 👍👍
I like hearing you talk about the shells. I love how excited you get with certain types of shells, for example, the deep sea scallops. I am missing you talking to us. I still love the video. I think you have the best shelling channel on TH-cam and your channel is greatly under appreciated.
I truly appreciate your wonderful feedback. I'll always continue to include my normal style of talking to the camera while filming, but sometimes I like to switch it up to capture to try to capture a mood. What excites me most about what I am creating here, is the opportunity to share all of these experiences with the world; finding ways to get folks to care about some of the things that I care about 💙 Thanks so much for watching!
@@solaceinshelling6552 you definitely succeeded in capturing the mood with no dialogue. ❤️ thank you for taking us with you on your journeys! I enjoy them immensely.
We live right nearby where you started shelling (3:40), in Cape Elizabeth. We love going to the beach all year for shells and the open, salt air. Thank you for your inspiring journeys, they are a wonderful way to relax, and enjoy and be mindful of the beauty around us. You just recently popped up in my feed and I’m very happy about it.
I am a swfl resident that has the pleasure of shelling Sanibel Island and surrounding areas. Never would I have thought to go to a place such as Main. What can I say? I’m extremely partial to my tropical and subtropical shell species. However, seeing the beauty and the mystique of the area you chose to film, definitely makes me feel some wanderlust for new places. Maybe my shelling addiction will carry me to places such as this in the future. Thanks for sharing.
"There is no better experience of finding shells on a beach during the summer..." Your opening statement of this video really says it all. Watched this whole episode and didn't find the need to fast forward or jump around. I just relaxed and let you lead the way...and thanx for letting me tag along...in 4K, of course...
Oh the beautiful colors! Those mussels were blowing my mind! Then you picked up the rocks and OMG! Jasper, plume agate 😍😍😍 awesome video! Never been to Main but it’s on my list for sure!
I always appreciate someone who knows rocks pretty well, and comments when I feature them. Maine has TONs of beautifully tumbled beach cobblestones 💙 Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for such a beautiful look at the Maine coast and the beautiful shell treasures! Loved your commentary which reveals your deep appreciation for all our coastal gifts, delightful ❤
Thank you for such a lovely episode. As an artist, the very unique palette, textures created by the salt and calcification and the rugged quality of Maine shells is endlessly inspiring. The Iceland scallop fossil is astonishing. I actually prefer the limited spoken word in your videos, as it creates for me, a sense of calm and wonder, as if one is there in person.
I appreciate your feedback! It appears that my viewers are split between this style, and my normal style with live narration. I believe I only have a handful of videos where I intentionally exclude narration in an attempt to create the mood you mentioned. I do find, joy and pleasure creating both styles. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you so much for this information. when I travel to Maine, I always bring back some shells. Especially the blue muscle and the horse muscle. Now I know how to clean them. I really love the purple and blue.
Hello friend, thank you for the great feedback! I do have a couple videos where I show and talk about my collection - please check those out! As my collection evolves, I'll always make sure to provide updated content - thanks for watching!
Amazing. I love the colours. Thanks for taking us shelling and showing us how the clean the shells. It is nice to do the extra step with the acid for that extra removal of salt, etc. Shells are so beautiful. In my country the mussle shells are black. I wouldnt collect them. But your are so beautiful in the blues and purples. I love the black fossil scallop I think you said. Thanks. Waving from Germany 👋👋🏖️🐚
Oh my gosh Brian! You have outdone yourself this time! I have always told you that you put out amazing videos but this is definitely my favorite. The scenery, the ocean, the beach, the shells, the rocks and that awesome music you play is just serene! I haven't been this relaxed in a long time. You and Sharmon are like a therapy for me. Thank you for your love of what you do and for sharing with all of us. You are a blessing!😊❤
I truly appreciate your great feedback! This episode took a little longer to edit, but I am quite happy with the way it turned out, and of people's reception to it. Thank you so much for watching!!! 💙
Wonderful. I really like how you shoot your videos they are always so peaceful and calm even when the ocean is raging. So many treasures on the beach rocks, sea glass and of course the shells. So pleased the mussels got showcased, they are beautiful. What was the small joined white/nacre looking shell and the bigger joined shell with one side rippled white please, maybe an oyster? Thank you so much for sharing.
These shells are so beautiful. I really miss you talking and identifying the shells. I learned so much about shells from your videos. I recently went to NC and was so excited I could id the shells I found from watching your videos. Thank you for taking us along your adventure. Scratchies for Yuki!
Love your message at the beginning of this video….its so true!! These shells are gorgeous and now Maine is on my bucket list! Thanks for another great video.
I live in southern Maine. I really hope you get to travel here someday. From the Down east area with bat harbor, Acadia National Park, Wiscasset and Boothbay to old orchard beach and beyond there is something very peaceful here. I have serious autoimmune and everything about the treatment and recovery periods is chaotic, so many doctors. The beach is peace. It's possible even on a crowded day to stand with your feet in the water and feel small, alone, and something greater than yourself all at once. I hope you visit us soon and see what I mean! Acadia just takes your breath away!
This video is so soothing. I haven't been to pop ham beach for years.i miss it.i will make my journey there again and Cresent beach in cape Elizabeth too..I love God's beauty
Truely enjoyed that beach❣️! So much to look thru, 👀. Love when you stop to do a screen shot. Gives me time to hunt to. And that red sand! I would have taken an oz of that to display on a shelf in a pretty little vial/bottle. I have sand from the phillipines that a coworker brought back for me many yrs ago. Still have it! That little rippling water was awesome on that puddle/inlet?, 👀❤️. Perfect timing. Dumb question, what is done with the muriatic acid afterwards? Is it reusable?
Lovely! Simply stunning beach views ❤ love the transformations upon cleaning! Have you tried Magic Acid? It works in my experience just like muriatic acid but w/o the skin burn risk 👍🏼 With my kiddos I was all but happy to switch. Happy shelling and have a great summer!
Hi friend! I truly appreciate your awesome feedback. I haven't yet tried the magic acid, but purchasing it, is definitely on my to-do list. I also have to catch up on some of your videos! Happy shelling to you as well and hope you are also having a great summer!
This type of sand can be found in a few locations along the Maine coast, and throughout New England and Long Island, NY. It occurs due to the presence of the mineral garnet. The red sand featured in this video is from Cape Elizabeth, Maine Thanks for watching!
After watching/binging on your awesome videos, I often think that I have met you! Have you by chance, dined at a place called Macs Grill, in Auburn Maine?
Hello, this sand can be found in a few locations along the Maine coast, and throughout New England, and is due to the presence of the mineral garnet. The red sand featured in this video is from Cape Elizabeth, Maine! Thanks for watching!
This is a great question, but the answer is a little nuanced, lol! Sometimes, it's actually quite difficult to tell the difference, especially with younger fossils. In general, one of the best ways to tell is by color: Living seashells often have colorful patterns, but fossilized seashells usually lack these patterns, and are more neutral colored. This method isn't fool proof though because some shells naturally lack color and patterns. Another way to identify is to understand the geology of the local region you are looking for fossils in. For example... in Maine, shell fossils can be found in layers of ancient marine sediment that were created by the movements of glaciers during last Ice Age - these sediment layers in Maine are known as the Presumpscot Formation, and the shell fossils that come from these deposits are approximately 11 - 14 thousand years old. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry has listed a few of the species of shells that can be found in these marine sediments, so if ever you find one of these shell specimens in Maine, it is most likely a fossil. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the beautiful video. I usually clean my sand dollars in hydrogen peroxide, they don't seem to get as brittle. Sometimes just leave in the sun until they are completely white. I use bleach on my shells, sometimes it leaves a chalky appearance especially on fighting conchs. Any suggestions anyone? Agreed that shells look great when they are wet!
I definitely need to try cleaning my sand dollars in HP! I think SWF Beach life just posted a video on how using mineral oil on some shells can help remove chalky residue! Thanks for watching!
