    Older cars like these seem to have a life of there own, A Living thing.....when you drive one you can feel the car talking to you...comunicating what is feeling from the road, its mechanical parts, you become connected, you become ONE.....Every true car guy knows exactly what im talking about. ;)

    Kevin is such a rad person.
    I met him at a couple of mx5 events and he was so keen to hear about everyone’s mods and talk about his cars. Absolutely the kind of guy we need more of in the scene.

    Thanks a lot for keeping the greatness of Skyline in Australia. Im owner of BNR32 in JPN, but most Japanese youth never understand the taste of Skyline.... enjoy your Hakosuka 2000GT ("Hakosuka" means "Boxy Skyline" in Japanese)!

    Owner's enthusiasm is very evident in his eyes, nothing makes a person feel alive than to experience that feeling! I came of driving age in the very early 80s and RWD small imports(and domestics) were what we could afford as teenagers(sure a musclecar would have been great, but at 8mpg, too expensive to feed). Celicas, Ford Capris(German made ones), Datsun 510s, Mazda rotaries(although back then they were unreliable at the time), Mustang II V-8s, Vegas etc taught you how to drive properly IMO

    This is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.
    Under the bonnet it looks like my 910, which is in many pieces in my garage. Hopefully this will be an inspiration to fix it up.

    I drove Kevin's DR30 around Mt Panorama (admittedly it was only one lap, fairly sedate because there was a highway patrol car ominously parked on Conrod) and that was quite a treat.
    After experiencing just one lap in one of Kevin's tweaked cars, I'm sure his Hako is just amazing.

    The springs are really inboard on a Hako, so the spring rate is very high (stock is about 450). So 1100 is only about 2.5 times stiffer than stock.

    There is a duct that runs along the underside of the bonnet, and it's fed by a big scoop that takes up half of that chrome grille area.

  • @freakingblue8544
    @freakingblue8544 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There’s something about the hakosuka GT-R that I’ve always really enjoyed. Maybe it’s the aggressive American muscle car styling mixed with refined Japanese mechanicals, size, and lightweight. Or maybe the humble sedan roots turned boy racer. Maybe it’s the sound of a straight six under the bonnet.

    The rear springs are mounted very inboard on a Hako, so the spring rates have to be heavier to compensate. Stock is about 400pounds at the rear, so 1100 is not quite three times the stock rate.

    About $60k all-up. Hakos in Japan start at about $20k and an average example is about the high-$20s (mine was $28k). Then there's about another $5k to get it landed, plus the various restoration costs over the years.

    Hey, the 2002 beat out my Datsun 510. I have a '72 510 wagon and though part of me wishes the wagon took off in it's production days (then maybe BMW would have responded with a 2002 wagon! lol), the 2002 remained on top (giving me the rare factor today). Despite the lose during production, I love my car to the fullest and I love being apart of an universal club of historic car owners. She's no Hakosuka GT-R, but she's my piece of Japanese history.

    @Bosmob I LOVE cars period.....Japanese,American,European....Mazda RX3, 68Barracuda or a shoebox 55,56,57 Chevy even a classic like a Duesenberg or a Cord....You see I just feel older cars have a personality, it becomes more personal. In 1973 my Dad due to the gas crisis traded in his 68 Plymouth Barracuda for a 73 Datsun 1200 in Japan known as a "Sunny". I was mad as hell, I told him pop's what have you done? Whats funny its today I would kill to have either car . Hahaa enjoy the ride.

    A little bit was lost in translation/editing, but the point was that the stock, narrow-bodied Hako coupe is a very sober, suit-and-tie kind of car. If it was a person, its clothes would always be immaculately ironed and it would make its bed perfectly every day :-)
    A little bit was cut out in the editing, about how it's amazing how such a sober, upstanding looking car just looks so "right" and in proportion when it's converted to a crazy race car,
