@@RoysHakosuka i served 3.5 years in okinawa japan in the marines where i got my first intro to the Skyline been in love with ever since and live every iteration of the skyline to this day, and seeing your hakosuka just brings back all kinds of fun racing nights on the weekends and back then hakosukas were only 13 -15 years old.
This is my first time watching an episode of Detour, and it was awesome!! This car is so cool and Roy was even cooler! Watching Nicole figure out how to drive his Hako was fantastic. Great episode. 10/10
@@RoysHakosuka The opportunity to see your creative insight, attention to detail and loyalty to keeping the Skyline legit is admirable. Thank you for sharing it with us!! I’m especially tickled being a HotWheels fanatic since I was a child. So cool, man.
This is my kind of car. This and the 33 (unpopular opinion) are my favorite model skylines. This thing looks so engaging to drive. Exactly my type. The challenge of driving it would never get old. I can just imagine the smell of the exhaust and fuel from the carbs. Takes me back to my teens driving an old dual point d15 ef civic hatch back as my first car. Getting in first thing in the morning, exhaust gas billowing from startup and the smell of how rich they run initially 😋😋
I’ve had 510’s and now have 240z’s but this make me all quivery. I think I have to build one of these awesome classics. Now someone please tell my wife I need a larger garage. 😮😮
Way back in about 1983 or so, one of my teachers at school had a Skyline just like this one. I don't remember all the details other than it being a metallic grey colour but I do remember him saying it was fuel injected. This was in the UK when older japanese cars were extremely rare because they had all mostly dissolved by then. I never realised at the time what a special car it was.
That generation Skyline body style is my favorite. And I generally prefer naturally aspirated, but I've got to admit that turbo sounds sick! Beautiful work, Roy! And Nicole, I appreciate your honesty when something is new or unfamiliar to you. Best way to learn! You're a legit car person and your extensive knowledge about cars and how to handle them clearly comes through. It's always a joy to watch your channel.
I've come to the conclusion, that Nicole is pretty fast in picking up on driving ANY weird to drive car she comes across. Cool Skyline, and a great video as always.
I recently saw a video that showed you flipping Scooby Doo, and how excited you were! It was awesome. I knew you were a rock crawler but I had no idea about the monster trucks. Please consider doing an episode that tells your story. I think it would be very interesting.
Thanks Nicole for making this video. It’s great to get a little more history on these Japanese cars. Also great job on driving a right hand drive carbureted turbocharged car.👍
Another great episode Nicole, I'm not a JDM guy, but love to see folks that love their cars and that is what your channel is about The turbo sounds were great!!
Nicole, I cannot fully express my thanks - I get a lil' emotional during each episode, and words fail. This time, as I vividly recollect the BRE 510s running with the "big guys" at Bryar and Lime Rock with such fondness, I see that Pete Brock had signed her - WT actual(!) he must have been stoked to see the evolution. You've touched my soul again, and I eagerly await your next episode... ☺️😎🏁
Love this episode, Nicole! Thank you for getting back to your roots of raw homebuilt cars by people with passion, creativity, and no limits. This episode was so so fun to watch and your chestry with Mr, Ro de Guzman was natural and so easy to watch. I loved your questions, his explanations, the look of the car, the knowledge he shared and the sounds of the engine. * still waiting to see you and your husband's FJ40..... Sno Dawg
Great car! Thank you for your service! My mom was my influence with cars. She always loved German cars and it rubbed off on me big time. I don't think she planned it. But I am thankful I always thru my life spent so much money on cars I couldn't afford to do drugs. 🤪
Nicole has a way of finding some of the coolest? neatest? greatest? (OK, hard to find the right accolade) cars and owners. His story about finding his car just proves he is a true car guy. Roy built was had to be a tuners nightmare, but found a way to make it work. I was curious if Roy ever put his car on a dyno? Great job Roy, you have to be proud of what you ended up with. Nicole, great job taming another beast that was brought your way. I always enjoy the parts of the videos where the owners are finally able to relax and enjoy riding along with her. Smiles all around. Once again, I can't wait for your next adventure. Thank you Nicole and Roy!!!
Thank you so much! I love all cars and like Nicole I’ll drive anything! The car is actually a work in progress with the engine because it’s such an uncommon build. We feel we’ve built a good foundation and we are still tweaking bits here and there to get it perfect.
Roy, I have a feeling you will continue to upgrade and finetune that car for as long you own it. Sir Henry Royce once said, “Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing.” @@RoysHakosuka

Friday I shared 3 episodes with my band members. You are a hit!!! One of us just bought a mint Boxer S maybe like yours. I had friends in the '80's LA who raced the little Nissans and Datsuns. Third band member raced 914's on local track in the midwest as a hobby. I was a member of a Mustang/Cobra Autocross Club in '72. I saved NOTACAT for the finale. Keep up with the great work Nicole and thank you for the speedy delivery of my t-shirt and stickers! All top quality too ! A :))
Thank you so much!! We're glad you enjoyed watching and love the comments!!
Thanks! It was great working with Nicole and her crew! The learning curve of this car is quite odd but she got it down as best as I can!
Such a cool Video, Car, Owner & Nicole of course. Just amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!!
We had a great time making it, thanks!
I love how your reviews are most often on something almost obscure.
I’m so glad Nicole and I found each other! I always say “Life’s too short to drive a boring car!”
We're glad you enjoy watching!!!
I live me a good ole school nissan skyline owned. 79 and 84 skyline love thise cars 👍🏼 absolutely premium Hakosuka
Thank you for watching!!
Thank you! 😅
Awesome....thank you so much for watching!!!
We’re so glad you liked it! Nicole did me and my Hako justice! I can’t thank her and her crew enough!
@@RoysHakosuka The opportunity to see your creative insight, attention to detail and loyalty to keeping the Skyline legit is admirable. Thank you for sharing it with us!! I’m especially tickled being a HotWheels fanatic since I was a child. So cool, man.
You're in for a treat if you go through her catalog of posts, then. They're all of high caliber.
Hope your having a good weekend, glad seeing you out with a new video
Thanks, you too!
Best car they ever featured on here!
We're glad you like it...thanks for watching!
this japnese timeless legend.......i see all the NISMO D.N.A inside. congratulations for this tunned icon 😉
We're glad you like it!! Thank you for watching.
The Hako is by far the most beautiful car (IMO). I’ve still never seen one in person but love everything about them.
Thank you for the comment!!
Great comment!! Thank you for sharing!
Me too! My newest project is an R33, 4 door sedan!
Nicole and Roy-san, great episode
Thank you so much for watching!!
I never fail to smile when I watch an episode, thank you!
We're so glad!! Thank you for watching!!
It's an extreme pleasure to watch this video. That car is amazing... Thank you, Roy and Nicole...
Thank you...we're happy you enjoyed it!!
Those rims look really beautiful. Looks like WIDE Minilites to me!
We're glad you like them...thanks for watching!!
Mannnnn Roy I love your story just as much as I love the Hako! I'd give anything to see her in person
Thank you so much for watching!!
Cool car and im a muscle car kinda guy ! No need to act Nicole ... you being you is what we're here for imo😁✌️
Thank you!! We appreciate you watching!!
Cool! I want one. I didn't know they made them that old either. I always wanted a 72 Celica.
Thank you for watching!!
This was again a really enjoyable video from Nicole... And that car and the owner, both super cool ^^
We appreciate you watching...glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you! It was a blast making the video!
I’ve had 510’s and now have 240z’s but this make me all quivery. I think I have to build one of these awesome classics.
Now someone please tell my wife I need a larger garage. 😮😮
Wife: He needs a bigger garage for a holiday present. 🎄🎄🎄🎄
You get me with every JDM but as a Nissan owner this car is a spacial one!!!! Great car, cooler owner and a great Video, thanks Nicole!
Glad you enjoyed it! We appreciate you watching!!
Fun Car ! I had the HKS timer in the Daytona Turbo Z I built back in the 80s. Fun to see one again.👊😎👍
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed watching!
Kudos Nicole, this was a goodie!.
Thank you so much. We're glad you liked it!!
Thank you for sharing with us!!
I smiled the entire time watching this! Thank you 😊
That is so awesome!!! We're glad you enjoyed!!!
We’re glad you enjoyed it! 😅
Thank you so much!! We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
I've come to the conclusion, that Nicole is pretty fast in picking up on driving ANY weird to drive car she comes across. Cool Skyline, and a great video as always.
Thank you so much...I appreciate that!! So glad you enjoyed watching!!
免許取ったばかりの頃、ハコとS30Zは30万円ケンメリは10万くらいでした。
今このコンディションで所有するならとんでもないお金がかかります。うらやましいです。
いつまでも大事にしてあげてください。
Thank you for the comment!!
I recently saw a video that showed you flipping Scooby Doo, and how excited you were! It was awesome. I knew you were a rock crawler but I had no idea about the monster trucks. Please consider doing an episode that tells your story. I think it would be very interesting.
Thank you...maybe one day!!
...that car makes GREAT noises!!!
Yes it does!!! Thanks for watching!!
Thanks Nicole for making this video. It’s great to get a little more history on these Japanese cars. Also great job on driving a right hand drive carbureted turbocharged car.👍
Thank you so much for watching...we're glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow this brings back so many memories, growing up with the L28 engine, awesome video!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great episode Nicole, I'm not a JDM guy, but love to see folks that love their cars and that is what your channel is about The turbo sounds were great!!
Thank you...we're glad you enjoyed watching!
What an amazing avenue to explore as a car enthusiast. A captivating experience. Thanks once again.
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Absolutely perfect build!
Yes it is....thank you so much for watching!!
Thank you so much!! Love the comment..we're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Skylines are the most incredible outcome when Nissan let their engineers unleashed…a Japanese diamond, so rare 🙌
Yes..we agree!!!

Thank you SnowDawg!! We always appreciate your comments. We're glad you enjoyed watching!!
Wow what a project! The tire stretch and camber seem in contrast to the rest of the car but wowee!
Thank you for watching!
貴方のハコスカ愛が伝わってきます。とてもカッコイイです!
Thank you so much!!! We appreciate you watching!
どうもありがとうございました!!!
Great car! Thank you for your service! My mom was my influence with cars. She always loved German cars and it rubbed off on me big time. I don't think she planned it. But I am thankful I always thru my life spent so much money on cars I couldn't afford to do drugs. 🤪
Thank you so much for watching...love the comment!!!
Thank you! I’ve got a massive soft spot for German cars too!
Thank you so much!! We sincerely appreciate your comment and are so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Another great episode , impressive driving skills with instant clutch and rhd manual , your genuine enthusiasm always fun to watch , your channel deserves more success

@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour always loved these old 2000s..this one is an absolute gem
We are all Dads with very precious and vital daughters. We Teared up right on cue! You now have 3 new fans. I am vicariously rich and will likely be the guy who buys the merch. Hey! Bless the work you do. I know the difficulties and commitment to feed a channel. We're all 70ish and refuse to grow old. You help all of us do that!
Thanks again... Sam '71
Thank you so much for your nice comment!! We appreciate it!!
Thank you for the top spec video here,Damn you’re good. Roy you made some sweet choices on the Hako, harmony to the ears.
And we thank you for watching..we're so glad you enjoyed!!
Thank you! Sometimes I miss the sound of wide open throttle going through the velocity stacks, but it does make do for a distinctive choice in induction. 👍

Sure does, those sounds never gets old.
Than you from 🇨🇦
As always, an excellent interview. The guest can tell that Nicole knows what she's talking about. She never dumbs anything down for them or the viewer. Such a joy to watch. Thank you.
And the car is very cool. It's fun to see someone not trying to go dragster power crazy.
Thank you!!! We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Great episode, Nicole. Such a cool car and owner, great stories and of course the driving with the wonderful noise.
Thank you for watching!!!
Wouahou, this car is magic. 👍. the sound is magical. Marvelous vidéo, thanks Nicole.

Love your channel and what you do. You bring so many new perspectives to viewers on what is going on with custom builds and the people behind them.
An awesome interview to see would be with Tim Cameron (his new bouncer is amazing!). Get you back to your roots and behind the wheel of a beast!
