    Mav Dad! One the best watch review channels on YT. Concise, and you cover everything. Now for the Sumo, . . . I like the Blumo better. I can't believe the price. For that price it should come with a Strapcode bracelet already on it! Those pins and collars are ridiculous. The new Sumo is in the price range for a lot of other great buys that are good to go out of box. One last rant - I really never liked that narrow bracelet either. I think it should be a 22mm. Beautiful watch if they could take care of some of the other issues. Thanks for getting this out there though!!

      Thanks for the kind words! I agree that they definitely should have upgraded the bracelet for $850.00.

      So what watch did you get instead?

    I bought the Sapphire Hulk Sumo 2 nights ago. Thanks for the review. I was sadly surprised to see no upgrade in the bracelet clasp. Otherwise, the new Sumo looks like a winner.

    I got mine a couple of hours ago from my trusted AD for only 650usd here in the Philippines... and... I. am. in. love! It's just like when I got my hands on an Alpinist a couple of years ago and I got so giddy afterwards haha. It's really beautiful in person.

    The 3rd generation is definitely a more elegant piece, fonts and indexes are much more proportionate. Sapphire crystal and movement justify a price increase however at the moment the watch is quite expensive, probably once the novelty factor fades it will get more competitive...today I tried the black dial version and it fits great even on a small wrist, I suspect mainly necause the 20mm bracelet.

    • @fungus70
      @fungus70 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought the black dial too cos this colorway makes the watch look smaller. I reckon the price of Sumo is much more reasonable compared to Seiko's recent divers.

      I just brought one! I think the price is cheap! Compared my swiss watches! I managed to get mine at £610. How's is that expensive for a watch like that? All I hear is this watch is soooo expensive! Try getting your head around a 2 tone Rolex daytona (which I own) for £13k. All my watches have screwed linked with no holes in the lugs. Its time for a change, as I'm after more of a vintage bracelet nowadays. This watch is a winner for me in all criteria! Credit to Seiko!

    I've just been to Japan and talked with the Seiko salesman in the shop, they say this piece is actually very popular.
    Since they did not have a descent 800~900 USD range diver in the market. this upgraded SUMO seems to satisfy many customers.
    70hr power reserve very competitive with the Swatch, thinner case, and sapphire glass + bezel and hands improvements etc... 200 bucks more i can certainly pay.
    Shame on the clasp really, but the bracelet is OKAY for this money, and the case is one of the finest among turtle, samurai and all other mid-low diver lineups...

    You may be the first guy to do a Gen3 - Gen 2 comparison. Great idea. My Gen 2 Sumo was the first "real" watch I ever bought. I believe that the Sumo was about the best watch you could buy for $500. But $850? Uh Uh. You can buy fancier Seikos than this for $850. This isn't the value/bargain the Sumo has always been. And I like the look of the original models. This one doesn't even "look" like a Sumo.

  • @VindeX00

    I have a 2nd Gen Sumo. I personally like this 3rd Gen better but It’s twice the price.
    sapphire and 20 more hours of power reserve is not worth twice the price.
    This Sumo is now around the same price as the 62MAS inspired line and the Baby Marine Master. For $800 plus I would go for them.
    I interested to see if this new movement will replace the 6r15. It’s still a 21,6000 BPH movement and has the same rated accuracy of -15 to +25.

    Beautiful watch almost as good looking as the green Oris Aquis. If i had known this watch was coming i wouldnt habe purchase thd green aquis almost 3 times the price. Also the power reserve kills the aquis. 800$ its a bargain for me. 70 HOURS wow.

  • @valueink
    @valueink 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Double the price of the sbdc031/33 for a sapphire and extra 20 hrs pr is not justifiable I'm sorry. Also stamped clasp on a $850 watch is not excusable. Certina DS sells for $599 with no shortcomings, and there are much better Swiss alternatives in the $600-1,000 range.

  • @rmelo5932
    @rmelo5932 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love the look of the 3rd gen Sumo, but I find it amazing just how many reviewers think that by adding a sapphire crystal (tons of much cheaper watches come with sapphire) and the additional power reserve justifies the high (IMHO) price. I get it is a new movement, and 70 hour power reserve is very impressive, but the older Sumo has a 50 hour power reserve, and the 6R35 is not more accurate or tougher that the 6R15. Exact same movement with the exception of the power reserve.

    • @valueink
      @valueink 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They've doubled the price, which is insane and foolish imo. The Sumo became popular because for $420 you couldn't find a better finished watch (other than the cheap clasp). Now double the price with some minor "upgrades" and the same cheap clasp? No thank you Seiko.

The only problem with it is the diver extension sticking out and digging into the side of my wrist, it should be flush against the inside of the bracelet or a racheting extension or none at all. They should really up their game with the quality for the higher priced models.

    Sapphire crystal is not what you want on a watch you use for scuba diving. Sapphire is more scratch resistant yes, but is not so shatter resistant as Hardlex, and it is a watch with a crystal more resistant against shattering and cracks you want for scuba diving. That said, most of these watches will never be used for diving, so the practical properties is not so important as its looks for most buyers.
    Cheers.

      I agree to a point but many other brands use sapphire at lower price point. It's just preferred over mineral or Hardlex.

  • @vwlukas
    @vwlukas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For me the dial looks like Sumo on a diet, everything looks thinner/smaller, I like 2nd gen much more.
    $850 and pressed clasp, unsigned crown, pin and collar bracelet. NO.
    I wonder what's the accuracy of these new movements after 24h of resting. In 6R15 long power reserve is only theory. The reality is that after 24h without winding the accuracy is junk.

    Buy this watch, if you love to waste money. $850 retail and a pressed clasp? Is Seiko losing their mind. Seiko is my favorite brand. But this is ridiculous. I wouldn’t buy this watch if I had 75% off. I can get a SKX007 or 009 for $200 or so. Want a good buy on a dive watch? Check out the orient mako XL. $129 on eBay. There probably isn’t 20% difference in quality from this watch. I could buy the whole XL line for the price of this watch. Seiko is famous for mediocre bracelets, but come on. I wouldn’t even buy the second generation, it wasn’t worth the money either. I’ve got a Seiko 5 55fathoms, Gold and black, way better looking and $140. Does this thing even have solid end links? I doubt it. Good job on the video but this watch is horrible. Good movement and sapphire but I can get all of that for a whole lot less.

    For me, the older version is the better one. No signed crown? I mean, in this price-range? To sign the crown, costs 20 Cent for Seiko? The cheap looking and feeling standard Seiko clasp? Sapphire glass is great - but i have sapphire on my orient Triton - and the Price was about 400 Euros. 900 Euros for this Seiko? Thank, you, but in this pricerange I can have a Longines Hydro Conquest for example. Seiko is moving more an more away from that what it was - good watches for fair prices. OK, good for my wallet, helps me stop buying watches. I'm not willing to follow Seiko's pricing policy.

  • @dustinr16

    Sorry but this watch is a rip off. The only upgrades are the sapphire crystal and longer power reserve. The hands and dial markers have all been reduced (scaled down; thinner and smaller). I’ll admit it looks better with the new bezel font and dial and hands (less cartoonish look). That green looks much better than photos. This is double the cost of the old Sumo though. For about the same price you can get other Seiko Prospex Divers with sapphire crystal, 6R15, diashield coating and much better bracelets with milled clasps. Seiko totally overpriced this watch. I don’t really see 70 hr vs a 50 hr power reserve as being an issue for most people, especially if it your only watch and it’s worn everyday. I’d save my money and go 6R15 all day long and buy a the previous model.

    I tried one on today. Not worth the price tag. I've got a high end replica of an Omega 007 SeaMaster (review on channel) and the quality on the finish is much nicer. How can a big Japanese company not create a luxury finish when the replica makers can?

      Serious? Replica. You just blew your whole argument with that. Who will take that or you seriously? BTW I just looked at one and the quality is there for the price of $850. To me looks much nicer than that price point.

    Seiko just looks and feels cheap. I've had 2 that the damn face inside broke and began to spin inside the watch. Same price to repair as it is to buy. The bezels also end up having so much play in them one ended up being bi directional. Garbage
