    I also think your headlight on its own with no electrics will be at least 2.5k, add electrics you'll be 3.5k. Genuine windscreen you'll be at least 900 including fitting. Plastics you'll be about 400. New bonnet hinges maybe 300. New bonnet and wing?? Paint will set you back 12-1400 coz that bumper looks a totally different blue.

    Was it driven in a flood (or on a beach) when it was damaged? I'm wondering if the undiagnosed engine noise not being fixed under warranty and all that corrosion wasn't due to something happening in water and their insurance nor VW would cover it?

  • @minimoto99
    @minimoto99 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +96

    My guess, driving it unfit (you decide on how) invalidated any insurance. Someone they know bought it off them to repair, had a few five-finger discount parts available already, realised the other parts were too expensive/on back order, cut their losses after quick bodge and flung through copart. You got lucky that it wasn't worse accident damage.

    Definitely check the airbags and seatbelt on the drivers side. If they are ok it was probably hit when parked up. It’s only just a year old with the V5C issued when first registered. I suspect there’s more damage than meets the eye. Parts. Will be around £3900

    What happened to the original battery? Has the engine / gearbox moved in the collision causing damage to the battery and the surrounding area? It is always a worry picking up where someone else has run away from. I would be checking further back on the subframe this might be the reason why the steering sensor won’t reset.

    I think this has been damaged on private land or maybe the driver wasn't in the right state to be driving and going to insurance wasn't a option so they tried to fix it cheap and move it on,

    I wouldn't touch this car with a 10 feet pole. 2500 quid won't get you anywhere unless you spend a lot of time finding good salvage part. It needs the cowling and the windscreen which you did not mention but that are obviously busted. Since you will need to redo the paintwork, I'd buy new salvage body parts as well. Those TangtongLingLong parts are made of thinner, lesser quality steel and will rust a lot quicker. But I'm looking forward to see you getting her restored to her former glory. Please do check all ECUs to double check the vehicle identity. Tires seem a bit worse for wear for 5k miles!

    Steering angle sensor basic setting should be done stationary. all the way left and hold, then all the way right and hold then back to the centre. There’s an ongoing TPI for all VW models with ACC/travel assist and it is the steering wheel at fault so you may find that is an issue when other issues are sorted.

    I bought a 2021 diesel clio from copart, as usual copart did not viewing, it had very minor panel damage, but it was the damage from a previous crash that was the problem, it must of had a side impactwhere the sill and B post were pushed in, to pull it out they sliced one metre of the floor, then to fill the floor gap a piece of tin was stuck on and sprayed with underseal. Instead of fixing it I broke it. I now buy elsewhere, viewing is not a problem and they are very quick to help with any problems found, which is very rare. and best of all fees are very reasonable.

    Could be a company car bought for cash, but most company insurance policies have huge upfront excess values, thus sometimes it's easier/cheaper to bodge a cosmetic repair and push it through an auction, than to make an insurance claim where much of the claim value would be swallowed up by the excess, and what's left is not worth the hike in premiums...
    Might also explain why the vehicle does not have outstanding finance issues...

    Lucky you I bought a Q3 2021 in May 2023 from Audi Leeds, couple of grand extra I was OK with as from audi. On close inspection front sensor cracked, bothe headlights cracked, inner wing not fitting well, chipped screen, various other chips n scratches. Luckily I got my full money back, they appeared very uncaring and embarrassed more than anything as they had been caught out.

    Just a note, you might think the engine cover is missing but it’s not. This model year had them removed at supplying dealership or first service due to a recall. Only recently that the modified versions are coming into dealerships so you may be able to nab one FOC. (I have a 22 Cupra Ateca which is basically the same car)

VW wanted to charge me Near on £600 for it doing on my Mk 7 Golf R said l wasn't happy at being a guinea pig as the Radar module had been moved up to the VW nose badge on newer models of the golf from below the bumper on my model ended up paying about £130 in the end

    The amount of corrosion is excessive for the vehicle's age. We see that a lot where I live and it's due to salt air corrosion. If anything else you find is due to corrosion, it'll be everywhere. This tends not to be much of a problem if you're 4 or more streets from the ocean. It also affects the external HVAC units, solar panels - pretty much anything iron or steel. The flipside is that we have uninterrupted beach/ocean views and a 50 metre walk to be in the water.
    I wish you well with fixing it up.

  • @darreng745
    @darreng745 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    ACC on a VW requires dealer level support as you need the grid screen to which the sensors are aligned and the laptop to do it, but one thing I would say if the bumper is a bad fit then the parking sensors or the radar unit behind the VW badge can also effect that because a straight bumper replacement on the vehicle without being adapted will throw that error up.
    That vehicle is a bodge job and sold on, the funny thing is that if HPI have no data for it as a crash victim then the owner paid for that work ( accounts for the poor quality ) and they then shoved it out in to the trade to recoup their losses on it.

    Agree with others. Check the airbags! There is definitely a large amount of BOJ going on there. As for parts. Forget the pattern part, no matter how good it fits. It’s a year old car, get genuine used. Would definitely advise ensuring that it is 100% straight. You can’t tell the miles from the tyres.. you don’t know how the cars been driven to make them like that. I would agree with others, it’s definitely a strange one and possibly (Not wishing to cast aspersions lol) some kind of uninsured or under the influence of something. Would be interesting to k ow of it was privately owned or company owned though? As for Coparts evaluations forget it… I bought a car that was sold as an auto and it was a Manual… coparts response to my complaint was “our staff are not mechanically trained” do it right and it will be a lovely car and well worth what you paid.

      That damage to the nearside rear of the bonnet set the alarm bells off for me. The offside area of bonnet may contain a lot of filler, slapped on over cracked paint and rust.
      VW rust resistance is very good, but once it is compromised it is useless. A repair to factory spec could eat a lot of money.

      @@mjrams With the bodywork in that state, you also have to ask yourself about the rest of the car and whether the mechanics had been thrashed and incorrect cheap oils used.
      VW cars last for years if treated correctly, so an older well maintained car would be better value for money.
      My last 3 golf TDI's each covered around 250,000 miles and almost 20 years with no major problems. The one I drove managed 285,000 on it's original clutch, despite a lot of driving in London traffic. Having the older AHU engine, I went to full clutch before touching the throttle. Needless to say, I owned it from new.

    I do wonder before some cars get into co part if the middle man has a car of similar age colour spec etc that he fancies taking some of the better condition parts off the traded in car fits them to his "keeper" or retail car then sacks all the damaged or poor quality bits off onto the co part car to get rid and cover his tracks......
    I still think if thats the only damage you uncover then 19k aint too bad.id say put 6 to 7k into the repairs but depends if you cut that front support as you said or undo and replace the whole piece. Then youre into lots more cash. Be ibteresting to see the underside........whip her up on the 2 poster.agree with others its too new to cheap out and not buy genuine vw parts like the wing and youll feel better for it.
