After stripping back the damage on the Volkswagen T-Roc R and replacing them all with new genuine parts it's mostly fixed! But was it worth it?

Sorry to say Dean but the paint match isn’t the best, the new paint is quite abit darker than the original paint, if it was me I would get the doors blended
Yeah the bodyshop didn’t have the car to paint with so the whole car will go there now for them to sort it

No it wont its the wrong shade, when painting panels you blend it to the panels beside @DaleSteel
Most likey how the light is reflecting off the panels and the camera itself. The bonnet was also painted with the same paint as the wing.
Doesn’t help the doors are dirty though, any dust will make the original panels look lighter
Hi Dean. I've been a paint and body guy since the 80's. You can't paint metallic off the car because it needs to be blended. It's all to do with how the metallic flakes (usually plastic these days) lay in the paint and how they reflect the light. The body shop should have told you that. Lesson learned? Keep up the great content though!
Completely wrong, its the white showing through. Blending is old school.

Well done Dean can see it’s coming along very nicely. I see the other comment on paint match. What could have happened is they may not have coloured to the edges of the bonnet when repainting it whilst when they were painting the wings it was edge to edge, I would personally have the front bumper (I know it’s plastic) repainted as that’s a hell of a lot lighter so basically blend 2x front doors + 2x a pillar post blends + paint bonnet + paint front bumper that ideally will eliminate all paint problems
100% correct on the tracing for Merc I changed my wife's lower arms tracking was out after and it just kept throwing tc and abs light fault. Got the tracking done and it was perfect 👍

I had the same problem with the steering angle/ tracking on my Landrover Discovery but my steering wheel was more off horizontal than this. It also through up loads of faults like the suspension lowering. Correcting the wheel alignment solved all the other errors.

The wing does look a shade or two out compared to the bonnet, bumper and door.

It is called reflection of light on 'metallic' color base because of the crystals in the paint that pops out the color looking more better, but this paint base has also this 'negative' side.... And it's normal that in some scenarios it will look like in different shade. Few times i also have acknowledged that it seems like my car panels have different color shades, but it is only play of light in the daily 'sun' and the perspective. And no! My car is not re-painted and im the first owner... 😉
Amazing work, I love the attention to detail. It’s a good job you were the one that bought this. Someone else may have not found all that bodged repair work straight away and been driving around in it for a while. I’m not sure if it would’ve been safe with that wing repair?

Paint is obviously mismatched, definitely needs blending at the very least. You also forgot to add the cost of 2 tyres to the final cost. Enjoyed this series, well done!
I found the best way to check your paintwork is to wait until it’s dark & pull into a garage for fuel..
For some reason the garage lighting picks out different shades..

I'd say the orientation of the metallic flakes is wrong on the wing, as they were sprayed separately, but will prob need good sand and reblend the bonnet, wing and bumper. Looking great though all the same 👌

My E92 also threw up abs, ecs, tire pressure warnings from the steering angle sensor recently when I’d changed all the front suspension components and didn’t get the track rods set close enough. Wheel alignment done and a 15 mile drive and they all reset themselves. Had feared the worse
Unfortunately agree with other comments with regards to the paint, deffo needs to be blended. Can get away with a bumper most of the time even if you have it scanned. The issue with DVLA and taxing is because the previous owner hasn’t declared they has sold / passed the car on. DVLA will write to the previous keeper and say… hey, someone has applied for a log book for your car, have you sold it? Then they notify DVLA they have and the logbook gets issued or they ignore the letter and you have to wait the full 6 weeks. Luckily you have the trade plates and don’t need to worry about it.
Very nice job though mate. Definitely best option to get everything genuine especially with the age of the car!
My Dad’s 2006 Audi A4 3.2 had the steering angle sensor out and it would turn off the traction control and abs as these both rely on the steering angle sensor for proper application of braking and traction control.
Disconnecting the battery for a while fixed it.

Its a fine little neet car, just fell in love with the T-Roc.
Not a great VAG fan but at least you can seem to get all the parts with little hassle, even internal body pressings. I would do tracking as a matter of course - SRUK always do it and many cars prove to be out of tolerance. Your paint shop should be able to match the inner wing basecoat - a rattle can would be too glossy?
I just got done repairing a cat s seat arona from 2019 and i had about 6 errors come up on the screen after everything mechanical was replaced regarding start stop, headlight levelling, parkpilot etc, a lot of the systems the car uses require proper communication between all the traction control components and the steering angle sensor is one of those, as soon as the tracking got done every error disappeared on its own
Tracking being out will put the traction light on if its massively out. Did it on my 2013 Audi TTRS when I changed the track rod end. Got the tracking done and it went away a mile later.
It’s not massively out, just pulls ever so slightly to the right

On some scanners, there is a calibration mode in the settings, where you can put the car into calibration mode for the ACC. Just driving the car will not work. The car needs to know it is in calibration mode. It should then take about 3 to 5 miles for it to finish. Once the ACC is not available warning goes away, it has finished calibrating.
I reckon you'll be respraying the bonnet and the wing on the car as well, that colour is a nightmare to match. Good luck with it all
Maybe that will help you; I had problem with front assist error showing on random on 2023 VW Arteon R-Line. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the steering wheel so that might be the case on your car aswell; won't hurt checking that out

I've got an s3 and the acc sensor was saying out of alignment code. Drove for around 100 miles ish and it reset itself. On the obd 11 can look at sensor alignment and if less than 0.8 degrees should reset

On my a3 8p when I bent the wheel hub, my tracking was fucked and i had the esp light until i changed the hub and did tracking.
Should there be a radar behind the front grille for the cruise control?

Paint definitely looked different when it was in the workshop.
Going off the video I'd definitely say the wing and the a pillar could do with a blend
Surely the wings / bonnet / font door / front bumper and A pillar all need blending in? Its probably fine to paint parts off a car when its a solid paint but the metallic paint will need blending for a perfect match

The newly painted parts are much darker than the old paint. In such cases, part of the old part is painted with the new color. Only then will you no longer sie any difference.
It will be even clearer in the light color.

Ouch on the screen I have a salvage T Roc Tsi Evo R line genuine screen was £238 from my local TPS, re the ESP if the alignment is out the steering angle sensor will pick up that it’s not straight ahead and upset everything you can either check with VCDS to see straight ahead steer angle or get wheel alignment redone it may then require the steering wheel to be recentralised during the tracking or it will be done on the suspension adjustment the new Golf 8 are really sensitive and get upset easily your T Roc looks very new so might be the newer gen and awkward mine is 2020 so more Golf 7 technology

Few may have already mentioned but inside the engine bay is generally base coat without clear over hence why it looks dull and rough, keep it up 👍🏻
I bought a base coat aerosol and it looks like lapiz blue 🤷🏼♂️
It’s a standard blue that’s sprayed on the chassis at production, there are around 5 different blues all get the same in the engine bay for ease 👍
Once the body repair are competed, would the dealer not fix the electrical issues under warranty?
As someone who has the ability to do his own repair it’s cost effective. However what would the cost have been had Labour been charged for as well - would be interesting to know.
The bonnet area is normally just the base colour without any clear coat. So will look different but odd how it didn’t match

The paint colour could be due to photon creep, this occurs when the paint adheres to the metal in a direction opposite to that intended, thus giving the effect you see where it looks like a different shade from some directions. You should check with the paint shop whether they grounded the wing before applying each coat. If they didn't, another coat (with it grounded) may be necessary - along with blending.
Love the channel… I like how you throw it out there you don’t know everything and you ask for input… but… my OCD went into overdrive when you built the bumper back up onto a dirty shell…. Nooooooooo 😮 give it a wipe man!! Now I’ll always know there are mud splatters at its core 😂😂
id get a full 4 wheel alignment done with steering wheel angle sensor set at zero straight a head after a bump like that had tracking needs checking but also camber castor kpi and set back and tad had a nissan juke had to set sas to zero and adjust every thing to that metalic and pearl always paint on car and blend
Had the same problem on a mercedes Vito with the tracking
Hand the issue on various mk5 golf when the tracking was out,once tracked it was sorted
I had a crack in my S3 windscreen. I asked for an OEM replacement and insurance covered 😅👍
Does the base colour affect the final tint? Dean said the 2nd have wing was white so if the body shop didn't grey primer it, it might come out differently? Might be an explanation anyway.
I was thinking the same, he doesn’t really show the other wing fitted, once it gets done again it should sort it, especially when it’s fitted so that it can be blended in

I had the same problem taxing my one year old Audi Q5. I never had the V5 sent to me and also moved address so when I came to tax it I couldn’t like you (no V5) After a lot of wasted time in post offices and on the phone to the DVLA I finally got someone at DVLA to tax on my behalf so I could use the car before the V5 turned up (still on arrived) It would worth a call to the DVLA if you want to tax it but it’s a case of getting the right person as some said it couldn’t be done but I got it done, eventually!
If that’s the same paint code then i think the paint shop has coated the wing up/down instead of left/right.

The 'internals' are not clear coated and are usually manually applied, the externals are robot applied and much better in terms of a consistent laydown ( the metallic flakes will all lay the same due to the electrostatic effect of the atomiser ). You will also see that the factory clearcoat is probably tinted.
In summary - you cant match it.
Possibly need an adas calibration if they still don’t clear?
My mk7 golf r threw its toys out the pram when the tracking was out, I’d get a traction control light flashing when driving but I never got a fault code

As ever the VAG parts cost a fair bit but understand that you would want to keep such a new car all OEM. Looking good with the exception of the paint match but that has already been mentioned in a number of other posts! As its only a year old will the manufacturers warranty still apply?
Unless a VAG approved garage did the repair, the warranty will be invalid for any parts used in the repair. However, any unrelated faults are still covered, unless the repair was botched which led to the fault.
What was the app Dean used to bid on cars in the video?
I'm thinking is that paint match off a bit ... then you brought up the shade difference , looks like a wee trip back to the paint booth
