- In today's video we are back on the VW T-Roc R and start stripping it back further to investigate more issues! How much are we upto so far fixing this bodge??

The previous owner sounds like a fine, upstanding member of society.... make sure you delete any keys that you don't have.
I’d have a look to see if it’s got a mileage blocker on it, they just plug into the existing loom behind the virtual dash so they’re easy to fit and remove. Could’ve been left in there if it has one
Question not a challenge 😊Is it best to take that whole front beam back to the factory spot welds and replace the whole thing? Is the line you pointed out a deliberate crumple point/zone?
The fused part is laser welding... Where a steel 'blank' made from two different thicknesses / grades has been used to press the part.
I got a car which had some nearside front repairs around the wheel arch. Not as bad as this VW, its very satisfying putting the proper parts on and returning it to factor standard.
Great video and update, theory about covering up crash damage and lease sounds spot on, I bet this was ragged to death
nice vid Dean , as always. I have a passat CC so enjoying the VW fix :)
Hi, I had my tracking checked and adjusted recently, garage also insisted in resetting my lane assist, (using a trolley covered in chequerboard and a laptop). Much more involved than I thought.
So, don’t be surprised if this has to be reset by a garage.
No washer jets 😂 I have one of these from new, agree with the engine cover going under warranty- but those tyres are 20k minimum- this car is proper gypsy
Proper gypsy robbed and ringer 100%
Dean, great work, and also good to see that you are not making it prettier than it is. Love your honesty and it makes for genuine videos. You'll get r done!
The fused line on the panel is a laser weld, 2 different thickness materials or differing tensile strengths saves money etc
Always seem to find a few bits needed once you get into it Dean, but thankfully not too expensive. 👍
17:19 last vw i did that had a hit on that corner needed the steering angle sensor replacing before it would reset.
Hopefully yours just needs newer software to code it out
Steering wheel basic setting is just simply turn the steering wheel to full lock left, hold for 3 seconds, turn full lock right, hold for 3 seconds and put straight. It's the manual way of doing it. Will also get rid of all the warning lights you get when you disconnect the battery/get a flat battery. Works on all VWs.
@@Franky997 yeah that would be for the software configuration of a band new steering control module in order to tell it what to be looking for. If it already knows what to look for then just entering those parameters with lock to lock will do. But you're right, if replaced, c/o basic settings and software configuration is required.
To check mileage it’s stored on the gearbox which is stored in advanced data with vcds then type mileage and it will come up in km and also put the ignition on and hold ok button for 10 secs to see if it’s got a mileage blocker fitted or tap the button three times indicator will show on the dash 😎🧐
Great video and content, roll on Pt 3👍🏴👍👍
You most likely need a scan tool that supports sfd unlocking or obdeleven with the sfd unlock that comes on new vag cars around 2020 and newer they have the computers locked down with protection known as sfd
Nice project, and what you said a almost new car deserving new original parts ! It will be a nice car at the end !!
Pulling the battery terminals for a few minutes and then trying to drive it again might clear the steering angle sensor fault, it did on my Audi
Very interesting - love your confidence
New to the channel im impressed with your work fair play
Good video again cheers for keeping me occupied on my holiday 👍
Happy holidays!
Very sad holiday u having there brother!🤨🤷🤷😬😬
@@craigmorgan4676 cany do much with the snow can only play in the cars so much then gets boring must have no much todo if u leaving stupid comments
@@craigmorgan4676i watch youtube when on hols too, don’t see the problem?
You could start a new channel called car crash detectives. 🤣
The steering angle sensor is either on the rack or in the steering wheel. On Volvo it is in the "coil spring module" connecting the wheel to the dashboard electrically. Chances are that the steering wheel air bag went off in the crash and it damaged the coil spring, taking the steering wheel angle sensor with it. They may or may not have replaced the air bag, and did not replace the coil spring resulting in a steering wheel angle DTC.
Hi Dean. So you havnt been Scammed then. Your Investigation's all checked out which is Great. I tried to buy tickets last week for the Golf but I couldn't get to the Checkout and CC part. I will try again. Your doing a Great job on this T-Roc, getting parts can be a Pain in the Bum. Great Video Dean 😅😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮
I've heard of people renting cars and swapping the good tyres of the car and replacing them with bad tyres. It works out cheaper to rent a car than to purchase a full set of boots
could be … I walked away from a main dealer Alfa Quad because after 5k the rear tyres were down to 3mm. I’d expect on a hp tyre at least 5mm so Someone thought they’d get away with burn outs even if just fronts!
I seem to remember Nick Cotton doing something similar years ago involving an engine swop on a rented Sierra /Cavalier 😀 his poor old ma bless her sole!
A holiday carpark near us where you give the keys to them was infamous for the same thing.
Nice 👍
I take it you've already tried or someone's already said and or maybe to new ect. But I thought from pt 1. Have you tried starting the car steering straight. Full lock left. Full lock right and back to centre? I mot test late golf's ect and I've pissed off a couple by leaving the ignition on and going to lock to lock when it's jacked up. May not work but for free it's worth a go.
Some times when a lease company buy several cars the same and when one is damaged they change the wheels from one with higher milage when going to copart.
dean i had sort of same problem with a tiguan all the lights were on the dash AA bloke came out turned on ignition turned the steering full lock both ways , turned off the ignition and it cleared all the lights on the dash
Can you stagger the inner wing bracket that didnt reshape very well, staggering the welded joints adds some strength, rather than both cuts in the same place.
Great vids as always 👌. Faults that wont clear are a nightmare. Been trying to fix this on my 2009 A5 for months 😢
1 Fault Found:
5455 - Starter Relay 2
P3050 00 [167] - Electr. Malfunction in Circuit (Relay Stuck / Does not Switch)
MIL ON - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory
Ever since you beat jake paul you've grown on me alot tommy
That is a very bizarre set of circumstances! The filler on the inner wing did make me laugh though lol. Should be a simple enough fix for you Dean!
Bring on round 3 can’t wait to see her up and running and looking like mew again 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Haldex system only sends power to rear wheels when required, would explain more wear on fronts
Getting cold u need a Chinese diesel heater keep u warm. Good content good Chanel.
Dean, the os flitch panels need to be replaced as complete panels. You could be asking for trouble if. This vehicle is involved in another accident. If you know somebody who works in. A Accident Repair Centre they should be able to get you a repair method.
Why would you want to repair a 30 k car properly, when you can back street bodge it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Watch Salvage Rebuilds UK, and watch how complicated bodywork can be . Just a helpful hint,I am not being insulting.
@@johnbishop2342 them boys are in another league ❤️👍
As a former professional panel beater of 30 years experience it’s interesting watching these people trying to bodge a repair, thankfully they don’t sell salvage with heavy damage anymore, it’s all superficial stuff.
@@julianmorris9951 salvage rebuilds Uk , they have just repaired a badly damaged Vw Tiago
I would be slightly worried about the final price as the arse has really fallen out of the new car market at the moment, nevertheless great content as usual 👍
Headlight range control might be a ride height sensor on the suspension
Steering angle won’t reset unless certain things are met, basic setting. culprits are wheel speed sensor not giving reading, vcds can confirm and you can check angle sensor in measuring blocks also
Steering angle g85,you need vcds to login into the ABS to do the learning.
I'm sure this car is SFD-protected, that's why you cannot see any basic settings. You need a tester than can "phone home" to the SFD backend where it authenticates and does some computer stuff. Not to advertise shamelessly, but to my knowledge OBDEleven thingie can unlock those SFD locked options. I wonder if the steering angle sensor or it's wiring is faulty, have you checked it? Is there sensor(s) on the steering rack itself on these?
Cars are getting way too complicated these days for no reason....great vid, keep up the good work
There are plenty of reasons...
As said there are reasons why not necessarily good reasons but there are reasons, cars have really started getting complicated since the late nineties but these days it really is on another level.
Great video. I can picture the previous owner
Are you thinking about replacing the cracked windshield on the T-Roc?
Well done. This is a Marketplace car for sure.
Dean, I'd love a video or a section where you show us how you order these parts from VW!
That'll be much appreciated.
Great stuff, as always!
13:30
I just either quote part numbers or use LLP parts website as they have the Elsa catalogue so you can search parts
@@SavingSalvage Thanks a million for the speedy response! That's much appreciated.
Long shot....but after changing steering rack on my audi a3...i had steering angle sensor problems...after searcing the internet i found instructions to something like drive forward 3m stop turn full left then back drive forwards 3m turn full lock right then back... Forward 3m then reverse 3m....as soon as i done the reverse bit everything reset....i tried the forward lock to lock several times already but not the reverse bit....may not work for this car bit did for my a3.
Go Dean🎉 you’re content is still as good as ever. ❤
Dean my daily is my 1999 BMW E38 728I Its mint i went in my daughters VW not a t rock looks the same another name cant remember what it is but wow its quick crazy fast .realy fast .
I had the same model and year and it had Pretoria wheels as standard, have the wheels been swopped out?
The mud/dirt on it will be from the Copart yard. A couple of my cars looked like they’d driven through a recently ploughed field when they arrived!
yeah it probably will be actually as they drove it out! first time ever a car hasn't been forklifted on haha
Dean the inner flitch panel which you tried to fix so not cut it off at the same point as the outer panel you should stagger the joint or you will end up with the rail being weaker than the other side you can get body data from vw or thatcham but if you know someone at vw they may give you the data when you buy panels.
That's going to be a nice car when it's done Dean
Get it tracked up mate, hopefully them traction lights will go out…. Failing that, it will only been a new sensor loom for the o/s/f. Majority of them lights are connect. Even the headlights will be connect as they are adaptive xenons. Good luck mate👍🏻👍🏻
I wonder if Carista or OBDEleven would programme your faults out. May need to have certain security privileges for such a new car. But they're worth a try.
I also wonder if it's actually been a hire car that was out in long term. Some of the hire companies use similar peg boards.
He’s got the dealer level program on his laptop
I think you can do anything if you put your mind to it
Hey, turn the steering wheel all the way from one side to the other side a couple of times with the engine running and the error should go away.... i have a s3 8v and i have to do this everytime the battery was disconnected
It's been done already without success
Hi, is it possible to put the American manual gear box of the golf r in this t roc if you want to have a manual t roc r?
Dean. You’re the man
Sure That's An Old Ayrshire Registration lol
Yep MCS 991W Comes To Mind
Need to get that tvr sorted
The mud around the arches is the copart boys rallying around the yard
Moulded sound deadening pad that clips to the underside of the bonnet missing?
Front assist is actually unavailable because of front radar which needs recalibration after dissasembly.
If the rack has been hit by something, then the electronics inside can be damaged by the shock. It's fairly common. This happened to me when I used a hammer to split the ball joint on my Golf. I ended up having to replace the rack :( So even if that isn't the fault here, ensure you always use a ball joint splitter when cracking the tapers on an electric rack.
Thats exactly what i said too myself from the first video, a crashed leased car and a quick fix before given back, to the lease company.
A old vw trick may work, turn the car on Lock the wheel to the left hold for 5/10 seconds lock it to the right hold for 5/10 seconds then put the wheel back central it may clear
I reckon that's been a rental for cousin's and uncle's weddings and been crashed over the rubber dingy rapids. Then had a liberal coat of Birmingham applied to try and pass it off
Can't wait to win this car. After the r32 and rs6 obviously.
I have repaired some cars which have had unpainted alloy bonnet hinges, which must be coated to stop corrosion.
Maybe check the tyres date code if you were worried.
When will we get some TVR content?
Cheers Pat 🇦🇺
I had a steering angle fault when my tracking was way out on my Audi.
Looking at the tyers it looks like someone done a track day.
Do the main dealers sell these sectional frame parts?
How do you 'hide' a replacement wing. I.e. not having paint marks on the bolts. Paint the entire top of the wing once it's all in place?
What about the wndscreen that is cracked and the panel in front of the windscreen that appears to be broken? It appears they were damaged when the bonnet moved back. Surely they need to be repalced as well.
Love the videos do you suspect the car for being clocked being that the tyres are as low as they are for only 4 to 5k on The clock if it was a lease car more then likely on a 5 or6k lease and being a year old and handed back I would suspect the milage to be 10k to 15k minimum which would tie in with the amount of ware on the tyres. Just a thought
You might need OBD11 to do anything to the car due to SFP tokens??
Hi keep it up you are doing a great job and having fun making some brilliant videos superstar Ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery 😅
Should have adas sensor in the bumper needs pluging in and probably needs calibration
I’d still get VW to check this one up after you’ve completed it for a mileage rollback just to be sure
It’s dsg so they have a seperate milleage store which doesn’t normally get wound back
Nice easy fix for you this one, finished in next video 😂
Won’t some of those faults be to do with the radar not plugged in/calibrated?
Washer jets are £20 each genuine 👍
Golf R with Bridgestone tyres should last at least 10-15k. Driven hard on uk roads with Uk traffic won’t knacker them out that quickly. If tracked tyres wouldn’t, plus tracked tyres if driven hard melt. I’ve seen some of my customers cars which the marbles of rubber glued to the side of the car and inside the wheels from being driven hard. I bet that been clocked before it’s been returned on lease
My mk8 Golf r they took the engine cover off at dealers as a recall too hehe
Back a few years ago growing up a mate got into an accident and the insurance sent out a brand new VW bora as a courtesy car. It snowed a few days later and my mate was doing handbrake turns in it, smacked a kerb and snapped an axle. Managed to change the axle on the side of the road over the weekend. Courtesy cars get such a beatdown 😅
If a lease car it may have had a mileage blocker fitted, e prom cannot detect these. Take speedo out and see if still fitted.
Who reckons the previous keeper swapped the tyres?
My Curpa Ateca, also misses the engine cover. Bloody irritating and no sign of a replacement still!
Worth checking any modules for mileage tampering due to lease return and worn tyres?
I have, no issues with mileage or airbags either.
@@SavingSalvage ideal
Does the mileage match in all ECU’s? Even driven hard, 5K seems low to wear the tyres out. Have they also gone over their lease mileage and clocked the dash but not realised all ECU’s store the mileage?
R tech would be the place for this once its back together or that one ccd uses with the bald fella
😂😂😂 5ks easy to kill a pair of front tyres , I can wipe out a set of fronts in a 170bhp Audi just by being hard on it let alone a 300bhp troc R
If it was a doctored up lease return, I hope the lease company took whoever rented it to court to cover damages
so glad your replacing body panels , who ever repaired it before same on them that's what gives the motor trade a bad name , they need locking up, have you changed your mic sounds very treble tiny like ,
Every car I have ever gotten from Copart have been caked with mud. Most of their sites are just dirt lots. With the amount of car movements they have, it doesn't take much rain to turn it into a mud field.
Is it the lighting or is the turret slightly rippled
Might have had a mileage blocker on it,
I'm confused as to why you're not doing that section as a whole properly considering the new part also has that line in it?
was reminded of the TVR in this video - anyone know if he's given up on that project or is it going to get done at some point?
I do need to sort that out!
it needs to be driven to do steering angle reset and it will do a few other things in the first 100 meters may be its seeing bonnet open or have airbags gone off and someone has put a new sas on and its wrong steering wheel on wrong throwing sas out need to check some live data
