- Gilbert "Durinho" Burns works with trainers at Institute of Human Performance in Boca Raton to get ready for his main event fight with Tyron Woodly. Gilbert is now the main event of UFC 258 againts former teammate Kamaru Usman on February 13th in Las Vegas. Stay tuned to Gilberts channel for more thoughts on the fight as well as training footage. Gilbert Alexander Pontes Burns, is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and submission grappler who currently competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). As a grappler, Burns is a three-time World Champion and World Cup gold medalist.

Romero sort of started doing that after whittaker beat him in in their first match as well, not sure if it was his or his coaches' idea to do it in the rematch and afterwards; he'd lulled his opponents like that before, but it became the main staple of his game after whittaker

This is a well balanced fight, definitely a tough fight for the champ. Burns in my opinion has all the tools to get it done physically but Usman is mentally strong. If you gas out you done

Damn!!!! Burns is in ubelieval shape. He may TKO Usman under 2 rounds although its little bit hard to happen becus Usman also has power. But have to say Burns has one of the best training camps in the UFC.
The thing is, Usman hasn’t put himself out there like Burns is doing, makes it easy to underestimate the lad, we haven’t been privy to his training like this. Either way, it’s going to be an awesome battle.

Great work ethic, but I would have preferred to see some of these exercises to with better form. Less reps but good form. Like a deeper diamond push-up, for example.
@H.E. Pennypacker I think they are more keen at getting through it rather than getting a full range of movement, therefore obtaining better overall muscle strength.
They can still have explosive power while having good form.
I get the feeling that a lot of MMA/Boxing Strength and Conditioning is very old school and they take ages to adopt new training techniques that would make them much better athletes.
One area I'm glad is finally changing is the attitude towards weight cutting. Lots of research shows that being even just mildly dehydrated lowers your performance considerably. Similarly if you starve the body etc. I believe one of the other fighting organisations now have a 1 week at fight weight policy (weigh you 1 week out and night before the fight), which I hope the UFC adopts.
Yeah they are trying to stimulate like as if it’s a fight and you are tired and your form is compromised. The idea is to keep going regardless of form and being exhausted
