    If you want to learn more about how Inkscape works, I have a 50+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in Inkscape and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/inkscape/

    Looking at the finished graphic, I thought, "I'll never get it to look like that, it's far to difficult", but I followed along with lots of pausing and rewinding and I ended up with a really good eyeball graphic and, more importantly, learned a great deal about using Inkscape. I'm still a long long way from being able to produce slick original graphics from scratch, but before I found your Inkscape tutorial series, I was utterly baffled by the otherwise incomprehensible controls. Thank you so much for making these excellent tutorials freely available.

    Nick, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to publish these tutorials. After only three of your vids I was up and running with enough know-how to tackle the project I'm working on - having never used the software before I might add. Keep up the incredible work.

    Excellent video! I have a question that I cannot find in the manual or on Inkscape's site. I noticed it on the last step, creating the shadow. The ellipse blur in your video seems to be proportional to the shape, wider blur on the outside and narrower on top and bottom. I am using .91 and my blur is constant, is there a setting I can change to have a proportional blur like your .48 version? Thank You.

    • @blinkerplease1936
      @blinkerplease1936 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just found a way to do what I tried to describe to you. I don't know if it is a difference in the Linux and Windows versions or .48 and .91 versions. I am using windows version .91. To create the proportional blur I have to apply the blur to the perfect circle before distorting it to an ellipse and it works. I just liked the look of yours better.
      I hope you didn't waste any time trying to find it yet.
      Thanks Again!!

      Also to get align and distribute menu as well as the fill and stroke menu
      Press Ctrl + Shift + A to get the align and distribute menu.

    So once you make these pictures, how do you use them? I'm working on my logo and when I save it I don't know what is the best format to save in. I would need to be able to send this logo to vendors who make biz cards and such. Also, if I save something I'm working on I can't seem to ever pull it back up later and continue working on it. I keep having to start over...
    Awesome stuff by the way!

    • @Vecderg
      @Vecderg 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you Ctrl+S (or Ctrl+Shift+S) the default option to save the file should be SVG/Inkscape SVG, which is an editable vector format. Saving your file as one should let you open it again and continue editing it.
      Since I'm not a professional, I don't know the best format to save it in. Personally, though, I export my files as PNG (File > Export PNG Image or Ctrl+Shift+E) since it's a pretty common format. Once you open the export window, the easiest way to export would be to select Drawing, click Export As (choose the name you want in the folder you want here, you should know how to do this), then click Export. If the exported image's size is too small, go back into Inkscape and Ctrl+A to select everything, then resize your drawing to be bigger (if you hold Ctrl while resizing, it'll keep the proportions of the drawing correctly, so I recommend that), then export your drawing again.

    • @Andrew-Kerr
      @Andrew-Kerr 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had the same issue. Check your stroke width. Shift+Blue does create an outline circle, but when I did it, it was so thin I couldn't see it. Try zooming in and clicking to select the (almost invisible) circle, then you should be able to scale it out like normal with shift+Ctl+Drag Mouse. The instruction is correct, but if the circle is too thin to begin with, you won't see it immediately after you create it with Shift+Blue.

      I use all of the keyboard shortcuts when I'm working, but when creating tutorials I avoid that so viewers can get an understanding of where everything is and how it works. I make exceptions for some tools like the gradient tool because sometimes the tool isn't visible in the toolbar if using a laptop.
