Just started using Inkscape today, and these tutorials are fantastic. I am an ex sign maker coming from FlexiSign, albeit 14 years out of the game. Seems very similar in ways, but I am extremely rusty. I have just bought a laser cutter / engraver, and this is invaluable to me. Thank you!
this comment rescues this video! I am using Inkscape 1.2 and would not have figured this out on my own. deleting the other red pieces is still necessary. I found it helpful to look at the 'layers and objects' panel when going through this then it was easy to find the smallest triangle, move it on top of the large red triangle, and deleting the other red pieces.
Watching this guys videos he is a great instructor. How anyone gives this guy a thumbs down I don't understand. Thank you for making these series. This really helped get me started with inkscape to make HMI graphics for industrial applications.
Hi Nick, I am following your Videos for some time now, and I very do every step you do. but when i go to Stroke to path and then break appart nothing happens. then i check my object and see that it tells me. no object slected to chang to path. I love your videos, really great art and work and stuff you create. brilliant and thank you very much for your time and effort!
Love your videos. Bit by bit I get a better understanding what functions can be used in order to create very individual designs. This is so great. Thanks a lot for sharing
I noticed and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong...I kept going by the video to the T and it wouldn't turn out right. Lol Finally figured it out though. Whenever you make the copy that goes to the back... Turn the Fill off on it. (Just the copies) For whatever reason the Stroke to Path and Break Apart method doesn't function properly as long as Fill is turned on for the duplicates. Only thing about it though that is a little tedious. In order to delete the parts he did, I had to physically pull the pieces away from each other, delete what wasn't needed. And then piece the others back together with the alignment tool and then use the Difference option under paths.
Guy, you are awesome. Thank you so much! In the space of ONE day I am confident enough to attempt a few designs on my own. One teacher to another, you're awesome! You explain so well! Keep it up!
SHAPE FILL COLOR ALREADY OPACITY 100% BUT STILL TRANSPARENT. So for anyone who got this case, I just wanna give tips. You should click on that shape, go to linear gradient -> edit gradient -> click on 1 dot and match the color with the color selected on the other dot. And then you can just click select tool and click that object and it's work just like usual.
You are a great guy i appreciate you your videos help so much i have had such a massive improvement from watching one or two of your videos a night thank you man keep it up
I do love the tutorial, but going through it I wish you could explain more about how the process works, like why I draw four polygons to create the 3D effect, then join the objects to the bottom layer. I'll be watching your other videos for sure. This will make a great tshirt design.
Nick, Love your tutorials. I'm really a beginner here; How do you apply the same set of steps to the next letter/object in a word. Or, do you do the whole word at once?
I'm doing something wrong. After I added the red outline and went to "Stroke to path"(at 3:10) I didn't get this layered look, it basically stays the same as before. Can anybody help me out?

Hey Nick, first of all, thank you for such a great work... I think I am having some issues as when I click on break apart, I don't get the result as in video...can anyone help?
There seems to be an added step maybe with newer versions of inkscape -- "ungroup" before break apart. I figured that out, but deselecting with so many layers is so difficult (trying to deselect the little triangle in the A is not working for me the way it is for Nick).
hi Nick I watch all of your inkscape videos hoping to learn all that I can...is there also a favourite book or other materials that you turn to to get all of your great knowledge on this program...BTW, I love your videos!!!

Hey Nick -- another great tutorial as always. But I have a question -- I am using this tutorial to creat the initials for your GIMP demonstration of carving into wood. I used C and I end up with little cut outs on the letter where I am making the 3 d effect -- any tips on how to get rid of them?
3:14 - After I put in the first duplicate red letter under the green one, and then do stroke to path/path break apart... nothing happens for me? Am I missing something?
Hey mate I’m having a bit of trouble. Once I duplicate the red A, add stroke, and try to finalize with stroke to path, break apart the object doesn’t stroke to path or break apart. It’s almost like it’s regrouping from the duplication. Odd.
Great tutorials Nick! Makes me think I might be able to do this. Question: at the point you Union the front of the A with the back (blue layer) of the A-when you use the bezier to click "just anywhere in the shape", I can't seem to get the piece to "union" to take on the first basic 3d look. Any help out there?
Hi Nick, thanks so much for your tutorials, I just wanna ask if you're gonna apply this style in words, do I have to to the same process for each or is there a way that it could be edited, how would I say this.. like it would just copy the path or linked to the style? Thanks in advance.
As always, the video is amazing, but when I try to follow, the version of Inkscape I got a few weeks ago looks different from yours--even in custom view. Any idea what's happening? Thanks!

The first few steps between 3:14 and 4:04 seem negligible to me. I can't really see a difference. Am i missing something? Seem like a lot to end with no change. please explain
How is this done with round letters? For example Im using the letter "U" and since the top of it is flat im not having a problem. However even when I use snap to smooth nodes with the bezier I'm having trouble getting the correct shape. Thanks for the vid!
With the new update of Inkscape, I can’t stroke to path n break apart. I tried stroke to path and object ungroup but still did not managed to get the inner selection. Does anyone know how to proceed? I’m stuck thanks.
At 3:30 you deselect two areas on the letter "A". I am following you but doing the letter "B". Every time I try to deselect the inside part of the letter "B" it deselects the bigger portion of the letter "B". How can I deselect just that one inner part (or two inner parts in the case of the letter "B")?

This tutorial just did not work for me. First I wasn't able to use the union command for some reason, could not generate stroke to path. Instead of union, I grouped it together somehow but when I tried to interpolate those strokes, Inkscape gave me an error message and it just did not work. This was so frustrating!
Sorry for the frustration. Unfortunately Inkscape changed the way stroke to path works in a recent release, which broke a lot of my tutorials (including this one.) If you're interested in a workaround, I addressed it in a recent video here: th-cam.com/video/Sy0nUkUt9CA/w-d-xo.html&t

Interpolate doesnt work?
@@LogosByNick Thank you so much!! This has been very helpful!
The font reminds me of Bioshock .
is there a tutorial for this using illustrator?
