I know this video is now a little old but it was just the first one that popped out to me when looking for some guidance in Inkscape. I just wanted to let you know that after watching this once, and literally never having used Inkscape or Illustrator before, I created the bike about 95% from memory, only needing to check back on bending the handlebars and to see the final image. Your instructions are clear, concise and just damned perfect. Thank you.
I am a very very beginner in vector art and I'm so glad I found you! I've learned so much shortcut and features. I drew along with the video and I'm proud to say that it's actually the first complete design I've ever done! Thank you so much for this well explained and simple tutorial!💞💞☺️
Before I found Nick's videos I was just copy/pasting stuff and adding drop shadows. Now I am learning new techniques and it is genuinely fun. He is a very good instructor and this channel is a blessing.
I drew my first ever complete and decent vector image! Now I have a beautiful, quite long bike, lol. THANK YOU! I've already learnt so much on how to use Inkscape just by following this tutorial step by step, until now I had no idea what 99% of the buttons did and was intimidated by them lol. I guess I'll follow more tutorials of yours in the future, it was very fun and useful
I learned so much from this video. Thank you for taking the time to create this so newbies like me can begin to create some really cool stuff. Love how you explain things.
Outstanding video as always. Thanks. Clicking the icon at the end doesn't "fix the stroke" - it alows the stoke to scale so the relative thickness of lines remains the same in proportion to object sizes.
This was very simple for me! But only after watching this tutorial! Thank you very much for all these videos. I'm learning Inkscape from scratch and you are helping me a lot.
Hi Nick, I'm new to use Inkscape and GIMP. Your videos are really really great! I learned soo much, by watching these tutorials. IYou are a great Teacher! Thank you much!!
Thanks for a great video! I followed right along, and am gaining a better grasp of the work flow you present, so I can apply it to my own projects. A++
Hi thank's for video! What is the difference between ctrl d and space buttons? and how to make tangent lines to circles? for example how to make chain on this bicycle?
I used to edit with Blender as well but I'm editing with DaVinci Resolve now. Free for 2K edits, available on all platforms (including Linux). Much more advanced editing software.
Always running trouble, lol! I'm at around the 6:44 marker. I tried using the space bar to duplicate the horizontal line (spoke) however I couldn't managed to get a duplication. I used Control D to make the spokes and manually turned them. I tried duplicating a square using the space bar, a circle... No go. However using the space bar duplication did work when I selected the star/polygon and made a 48-spoke star. Anyone have any clues as to what's going on?
I've been hearing recently that version 91 doesn't support the spacebar duplicate thing any more for some reason. I won't be using that feature in any tutorials moving forward.
Hi Nick, I have Inkscape 0.48.1.0 - maybe that has something to do with the space bar not always working for duplication. ??? I mainly use the space bar to swap quickly between F1 and F2, but on the rare occasion such as the star 'test' it did function on duplicate. I could never work out in the past why I had mysterious unwanted duplications - I only worked that out in more recent times. Thanks for the terrific tutorial.
It wasn't working for me in 0.92 either. But I had to rotate it first randomly while holding Ctrl without pressing spacebar, making it straight vertically, then pressing spacebar.
I turned my Inkscape version 0.91 into black and I'm also trying to change the icons but this isn't working. I'm changed the name of the file to 'icons' but it then appeared as the default, even when I opened the svg file on inkscape. How do I fix this?
I had this problem with a Windows 7 install myself. Instead of replacing the icons.svg files, just open up the original icons.svg file and copy & paste the updated icons into that file, then delete the originals. Be sure to save a backup copy of the original though, in case something goes wrong or you ever want to revert back.
you're confused about the opacity maybe? It's the number where the "O" is all the way on the bottom-left corner of the window. It's also visible in the "Fill and Stroke" dialog, below "Blur".
It's one of the best, most proffesional tutorial series i've ever seen. Thanks for all of your work.

I really like the fact that you redo the image from scratch and end up with a slighly different result. Love those tutorials, I learned a lot.

Yes, I'm a newbie too, and these have been the best so far that I've found. Thank you so very much for being gracious with your time, Nick!
Mindblowing explanation, great content from years ago

Love the work! Watching your videos has helped me tremendously. Am now creating my own designs and logos! Keep up the awesome work Nick!

I love how you explain everything in detail.. great tutorials keep it up ... I dont like the time lapse videos though ... hahahaha
Thanks for the feedback
Such clear instructions, and you share lots of your knowledge with us,thank you!
I completed this one and the abstract circle one. Great tutorials. I've got to work kind of slow to get everything just right. :)
Thanks for this, I already tried two of your videos and they came out great (Bicicle and snow flakes)!
You have a great skill for teaching, very informative and useful, I love it!

Hi
thank's for video! What is the difference between ctrl d and space buttons?
and how to make tangent lines to circles? for example how to make chain on this bicycle?
I see you have blender. Do you think you might ever be able to make tutorials for that program as well?
Unfortunately I don't know the first thing about 3D design or animation with Blender. I use it primarily as a video editor to edit these videos.

Really great tutorials. Thanks for sharing.
How did you get that kind of opacity, ...control - bars I guess. I have thick and blue ones.I use dark theme and the dark icons.
you are awesome nick
super clear and good speed. you have a talent for doing tutorials!! how do you get your ideas?
Even up to this day this vid is still usefull
Thank you 🙏

blog.logosbynick.com/design/new-icons-for-inkscape/
Light Theme - icons_dark.svg
Dark Theme - icons_light.svg
It works for me
Krzysztof Ś. it doesn't work...

Inkscape 0.91 Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Unity), and it works.
Copy icon file to /home/user_name/.config/inkscape/icons
