  • Here's Why You SHOULD NOT Buy The New 2023 Ford Ranger..
    Welcome back to Car Central, today on the channel we are going to check out Why you SHOULD NOT buy the new 2023 Ford Ranger. It’s difficult to overstate the importance of the 2023 Ford Ranger in Australia. In one of Australia’s most popular - and hotly contested - markets, the Ranger has been taking on an incumbent favourite head-on. And when you look at four-wheel-drive sales (discounting the two-wheel-drive variants), it often comes out on top. It occupies a staggering slice of Ford’s overall pie in Australia, and lays the foundation for successful spin-offs like the Everest and Ranger Raptor. It’s a job that only gets harder, when you consider how successful and impressive Ford’s outgoing Ranger has remained during its 11-year tenure. It was good enough to take on the Toyota HiLux for sales dominance, and often won the race for 4x4 models.
    Those are some big boots to fill, and a whole lot of weight on the shoulders. Goes to reason, then, that Ford engineers have left nothing on the table with a new model. There might have been a temptation to re-skin the current platform, re-jig a few things and sprinkle in some extra tech. However, they didn't do that. Like the T6 Ranger, this next-generation model has been designed, engineered and tested in Australia. It’s not a completely clean-sheet design. Instead, they have taken the successful T6 platform and moved it into a new-generation model. The wheel track has been bumped outwards by 50mm. Not by wheel offset, but by reworked suspension. It’s still leaf-sprung at the back with independent struts up front, but the rear shock absorbers have been mounted outboard of the chassis rails. Oh, and most models - those with an electric park brake - now have rear disc brakes. More about the new 2023 Ford Ranger in this video.

    Is this a car review? Or just an attempt at negative publicity? Best selling car in Australia. You compare it to a completely different class of car which is pointless. You say it has no power? 184kw 600nm is no power?The car literally has the same engine (detuned because the Ranger weighs a lot less) as the f150 haha. This is stupid.

    As an owner of a 2019 model in the USA the only thing I agree with is the rear seats being cramped. How can you compare it to a 150? Not even close to the same pickup. There’s a reason and purpose for both vehicles.

    • @redroo12
      @redroo12 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      In Australia the 2023 ranger V6 is $65000 and the V6 F150 will be $150000. Is it half as good? I say no- it's right up the F trucks arse in every test and Aussie car parks are half the size as the US so you can't park the bloody things anywhere without sticking out an pissing off everyone.

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@redroo12 In the US it is an $8,000 difference between the Ranger and the F150. Due to the number of F150s vs Rangers built it is easier to get the F150 at a discount. Parking is also not an issue for an F150. The F350/450 duallies are not even that bad to park most places.

    The vehicle shuts off automatically to save fuel. If you don't want it to, just keep your foot lightly on the brakes when stopped, or push the auto on/off switch when you get it (looks like a letter "A" with a circular arc around it). It's not dangerous; it's doing exactly what it is designed to do.
    The seats aren't cramped; they're normal sized. This is not a full-sized truck, so it's not going to be F-150 sized. You can't complain it costs more than a medium sized pickup, but then complain it's not as big as a full-sized; you can't have it both ways.
    For windshields? Never heard of that happening in Australia. Ever. And the previous generation had been around since 2011. A quick google suggested the aforementioned issue was only in the US. Maybe it's how you guys assemble cars. The Thailand factory didn't seem to produce the same problem...
    Yes; everyone would like the F-150 better, but they don't all buy it because some things are outside their price point. That's just how it is sometimes. I'd like a Ferrari, but that's not going to happen. Ask many people if they want a Ferrari too. Horses for courses...
    Either you're stupid or complicit in pushing a hit-piece, but there's a plethora of information out there saying the Next Gen Rangers will come with the 2.3L Ecoboost, and the Ranger Raptor will get the 3.0L V6 Ecoboost. You American's and your thirst for "gasoline" are taken care of; calm down. Yes; the F-150 has biggest engines, but it's also a bigger vehicle.
    Surprise, surprise; the Ranger is smaller internally, and externally, than the bigger vehicle. Stop the presses! A Ranger will still do plenty for what you need. For some, it will do everything they need. For others; it won't. If a vehicle can't do what you need it to do; don't buy it. People who need the space will take this into account.
    This entire video could have been replicated between F-150 and F-250, or F-250 and F-350, etc. With each step up, each model gets bigger, and can take more stuff in the bed. Write this exact same story between Maverick and Ranger, and you'll determine Ranger to be the winner, and Maverick to be not worth it. Do Car Central just hate Ranger? This is clearly full of bias.
    Australia doesn't produce cars. We haven't for 5 years. We've never produced Ranger here anyway, so we never "stopped production due to faulty fuel injectors". Again; either incompetent, or deliberately lying. They did temporarily stop sales of the BiTurbo back in 2018, but they didn't stop producing anything, because they don't make anything.
    Not sure about the gearbox. Gearboxes have long been the Achilles Heel of Fords. There's no shortages of stories, posts, affidavits, etc, regarding Fords going into "limp home" mode when the transmission overheats, or lawsuits over dodgy transmissions (believe that one though was Fiesta's/Focus's/Mondeo's). Ford have made changes to the Next Gen gearbox and engines though, and they now only come in automatic, and have features to help prevent abuse leading to decreased longevity. A recent test of the new V6 diesel Ranger against a V6 diesel VW Amarok (a model that is 6 years old), showed the VW was still faster in a drag race because the Fords' computer intervened in low gears, reducing torque output from maximum, likely to prevent excessive wear or strain on components. That's a good thing.
    The Next Gen Ranger lineup has far outstripped Ford's supplier abilities here in Australia. Some buyers are seeing wait times in excess of 12 months for their new Ranger. Typically these limitations are for orders optioned with Premium parts (Matrix LED headlights, 360 cameras, tow packs, Bang & Olufson stereo, etc). Customers who want to drop that sort of stuff are able to get vehicles in weeks.
    2 months ago - despite not even having officially gone on sale yet - Ford Australia had over 6 months worth of Rangers on pre-order. That's likely gone up since it went on sale, and that doesn't include fleet buyers who will have placed orders through fleet websites after it went on sale.
    Next Gen Ranger could be about to become Australia's #1 selling vehicle in 2023, so that's a pretty solid reaffirment of the vehicle's credentials; a vehicle can't be #1 if it's rubbish.
    I'd be surprised if the US didn't really take to the Next Gen Ranger either.

      I believe that you can disable (set to save last state selected by driver) the auto start/stop with forscan.
      For the most part I understand and agree with what you are saying. In the US the price difference between the Ranger and F150 is not that much so the F150 generally wins out unless you specifically want the Ranger. Trim levels have a lot larger impact on price than the actual truck model. When I was ordering I was looking at the F350 and F450 and paid the extra 2.5% for the F450. This was less than the difference between the Lariat and the King Ranch on either truck.

The truck was also in for bad shifting, a loose tailgate hinge (wrong parts were put on in the factory), a bad door seal and a few other minor things. Coming from a king ranch superduty and downsizing to a Ranger and after 2 years I still really like it. Only went in for a vacuum sensor under warranty. My only complaint is the size of the fuel tank. I feel like even 10L more would be nice especially for anyone who does any long distance towing with these things

    I have to disagree with this vid, the thai model does not come with a diesel v6 but the speed and comfort it has given is amazing, put it like this, there's no other truck in the thai market with all the features, tech and power as the Ford ranger at the moment. I've test driven both the wildtrack and raptor here both are amazing to drive and offer relative comfort for my 6'4 ft frame, it's still a little cramp in the back but I am still comfortable compared to the previous generation of the ford.

It offers plenty of luxury ( that you would not expect in a ute in its class), it drives extremely well etc. It’s always been a success here in Australia but there is currently around an 18 month wait for the V6 version. I had to wait 12 months for my V6 Wildtrak and I love it. If it was as bad as you say I would’ve sold mine already. Not only have I not sold it it is my daily. The new ranger is causing people to say "R.I.P to other utes", it is probably the best ute Australia has seen and you obviously come with reasons to make it look bad. It is an excellent all round car and you can simply change the "apparent" bad things. There will always be a bad "thing" about a car and when people figure that out they usually fix it, so it wouldnt be any different to any other car because nothing is perfect apparently these days. Don't try highlight it just because YOU may not like that feature because other people may like that feature.

    I test drove a new ranger 3.0 V6 diesel today and the auto gearbox is just terrible - really awkward delays changing gears and the changes are not smooth. It's like the car is braking itself in order to facilitate the change and for a second or two you worry is this thing going to change at all. Then this auto engine shut off when stopped at lights or in stop start traffic etc is really annoying and unnecessary. Also expected more power for a 3.0 V6 - my present 2.8 Landcruiser would easily out accelerate it.

    When it comes to after sales service on a Ford Ranger under valid warranty in South Africa, then I can only agree with this podcast.I have never been so dissappointed in a car manufacturer such as Ford. We had an issue with the electronic steering rack and Ford rejected our claim. They quoted us R36,000 to have it repaired and said it was for our own account as they claimed that the righthand steering rack rubber boot had been damaged by an animal that chewed on the boot. I have had a problem with this Ford Ranger steering rack almost from new and I reported this problem with every service interval.After speaking to a local mechanic, he did a diagnostic check and found that a sensor wire had been cut off, thus the problem,causing the steering not function properly. The mechanic mended the wires and replaced the rubber boot on the steering rack. All to the cost of only R229.00.I have had just So much for being so dissappointed with the Ford motor company of South Africa. Never again will I buy a Ford vehicle in my lifetime after this bad experience. I hope that someone with authority at Ford in the USA could read, this and see how bad an experience I have had.

    I owned a 20’ ranger sport and I had multiple issues. Leaking water in cabin, ac actuator blend door noise also with improper cooling from the dual climate control, incompetent transmission learning (slamming into gear on cold starts), rear drive shaft thunking, abs issues (alarm going off when turning right around a corner), horrible brakes, turbo lag, power loss, creaky gas pedal, thumping power steering on a cold start when turning wheel, horrible road comfort when going over bumps (you’d sway side to side like a boat), oh what else…. The auto start feature is ridiculous and will drain the battery down within a few years. I sold mine with 17k miles and bought a Tacoma. I got tired of the injector noise on cold starts from the ranger. I had to buy the engine cover that the XLT trim does not come with.

I miss the overall space you have with the F150 but for what it is I love the Ranger and think this comparison as to what I would rather have between a midsized and full size is pathetic and really lazy. You do realize there are reasons for both and price is an actual issue for many people who cant just buy whatever they feel like. Put you comparisons up against toyota or nissan midsize, this review was a hot steamy dump.

Although I realise that the truck was 8 years old I did not expect to have to buy a new gearbox at 64,000 miles at a cost of 7,000us$. After paying this money Ford were still not interested in taking my old truck as a down payment against a new truck. Well Toyota was interested and I am now driving a Hilux. Ford is very silent about the problem with electric park brake servo's. My Next Gen Ranger (9000km) is parked up at a dealer (New Zealand) waiting for replacement park brake servos. One of the factory servos leaked brake fluid which flooded the servo motors and controls. No external leak. All captured in component. Brake fluid is corrosive. The dealer banned the car from being driven until the new redesigned servo/calliper units are installed as it is a KILL YOU risk if the control electronics decide to apply that brake hard on while driving. It's the 3rd Next Gen Ranger this dealer has seen with this. Sounds like a major recall issue but Ford remaining deathly silent on this. Is that the stuff of a "listening company"??

      The rate of obesity in Australian is 80% of that in the US (29% vs 36%). Not really a large enough difference to explain the difference in vehicle size preference.

    WTF are you even talking about??? I own a 2021 Ranger Tremor and absolutely love it! 0-Issues and perfect for the Utah back country. not to mention, unlike the Raptor we traded in. You can actually park and use it in a drive-through without worrying about ripping off the rear fenders!
    Mixing and matching issues with the AU diesel injector issues with the flawless turbo 4 gas US version is very deceptive and below basic journals standards.
    I must say getting $10,000 more than than I paid for the Raptor was plus...

    The only thing I suggest to be careful with is the timing. They got rid of the chain and went for a wet belt. The service book indicates it should be replaced every 240000km or 10 years whichever comest first. The ford garage (Mechanic, not dealer) said it costs $1500 to $1800 (Australian $). But they have never seen one breaking.
    Mind you, in 10 years from now (November 2022) it will probably cost $3000 to $4000 with inflation.

      Update, after 3 months of ownership, one there are a couple of things I really hate about this car. There is no way to control utility lights (mirrors, boot, plates, tail and headlights. If you open a door, (shut it or leave it open), all these lights will stay on for a long time no matter what you do. An amazing mozzie magnet.
      Also, you can't lift the whipers, the bonnet is in the way.
      The antena should hve been shorter to allow easier parking and better roof racks.
      Just personal opinion...

    In the US I would most likely also choose the F150 as I am a big guy, but the Ranger was and still is a great car ... topping the competition in Asia where we live. Too sad that you guys don't get the 2.0 Diesel biturbo, what is the perfect motor for a pickup truck, economic and fund to drive. Our new one in orange will be picked up tomorrow ;-)

      The EPA makes it tough for small diesels. Once you get over 8,500 lb GVWR the regulations change and diesels are more viable. This is why the 6.6/6.7L diesels outsell the small diesels by a huge margin.

    Before I drove my 2013 Escape off the dealership lot in September of 2012, I brought to the dealerships attention that it looked like the front doors were going to hit the rear doors upon cracking the back door just open and closing the front door at the same time. With four seal compression the doors were going to hit. A mechanic looked at the car and said it was going to be fine. All 4 doors were painted at least twice because they hit 5 times chipping paint. One side was painted a 3rd time after the doors hit again after previously painting. They did not fix the door gapping. Just repainted?? About 12 recalls on my car. Once I was told the car had to be parked because of potential fire. They had to come up with a fix. Car sat for about a month. After I had my doors repainted 5 times I relocated doors myself since Ford could not handle or manufacture car with proper door gapping.

    "In Australia the company stopped production altogether due to a problem with the fuel injectors" - or maybe because they simply stopped making any cars in Australia since 2016

      They stopped making all vehicles in Australia because the cost of making them was way too high and the government stopped propping up the manufacturers spending millions and millions of dollars to keep companies like Ford, Toyota and Holden(GM) in Australia.

      The wife has the US version of the Prado (Lexus GX) and loves it. Unfortunately the 6,500 lb towing capacity is a little on the low side. We have used a Ram 2500 to tow for the last 12 years and are going back to Ford with the replacement (2 bad Ford trucks in a row in 1999/2000).

    The all-new Ranger is just a facelift of the previous Ranger, using the old body. New engine probably and a new dashboard, but the body remains the same. So if the rear seats of the previous ranger is cramped, this new one will also be cramped.

    • @vincentjammind.dimaano9018
      @vincentjammind.dimaano9018 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not a facelift, it’s an entirely new generation. It still rides on a modified version of the previous generation’s platform and retains some of the powertrain options albeit with tweaked engine and transmission mapping but it is a drastic change in terms of design, dimensions, and features. Other markets also get a version of the f150 powerstroke which was modified for the new ranger.

      @@dariovolpe8894 That's how car manufacturers fool gullible people like you. They modify the body a little bit, add bits of lines and bumps here and there, use the previous platform (which they actually did). In some markets, they actually used the previous engines. Change the dashboard a bit and voila! They now call it "ALL NEW". They save a ton of R&D money that way and they can claim it's "all new".

      All mid size utes in Australia have about the same space in the rear, I presume the US is the same. If you need more space buy a full size pick up.
