What is disturbing is that I visited Amsterdam back in the 80's with my wife. My hair and moustache were the same as here...and I was stopped in the street and asked to "audition" in porn movies. 😂
I went in `81 on a converted racing motorcycle with a mate, for a two-week tour/hol. I tried to find some leather bike trousers before travelling, but somehow ended up buying flared Speedway trousers. I felt very self conscious walking around Amsterdam in those tight flared black leather bottoms....and sometimes my mate could not be seen. I too had a tash. Everything that could happen or go wrong did, but like some mad comedy. I`ve retold the stories at parties and even had Dutch here in England, peeing themselves laughing....probably at my attempt at a Dutch accent for some bits. I will include that fortnight in my book, because it was a hell of a time, starting as soon as we left town to head for Harwich...until getting back here.
I’ve heard the Trance artist Armin van Buuren use the expression ”uplifting experience” several times. Is this a direct translation of some expression in Dutch?
Normally when I think of the Amsterdam stereotype of hookers, drugs, crime, and corrupt cops, I imagine a cyberpunk dystopia. But Harry and Paul just make it sound silly. :D
Harry and Paul were visionaries. The old people mentioned who complained about gays in the park would be arrested and charged with homophobia (amongst a dozen other -isms and -phobias) and end up dying behind bars or in some re-education camp.
@Serial Killa They probably weren't Dutch. I'm Dutch myself, and i think this impression sounds like South-African English more then a Dutchman speaking English..
I think the accent is accurate. Dutch speaking English as a second language as opposed to white South Africans speaking English as bilingual. It’s sublime but I have friends from the Netherlands and they speak like this.
You can't even make FUN of Amsterdam without making it sound like a great place to live
This Accent is so accurate..Paul is such a talent
He really is a class act.
Didn’t Johnny Depp say that Paul was one of his favourite actors? Paul Whitehouse is amazing, so it make sense.
@@77jamess yeah I heard that. Paul's a legend around my way

77jamess I believe so
Yes. A Dutch friend of mine commented on how well Paul Whitehouse had caught the accent.

Marvellous!
Then what happened?

As a German in Amsterdam you know you’re stoned when you meet guys from Austria and keep talking in English, deeming them to be from Australia.
crying with laughter lmao
“Only a bloody Dutchman!”

“Amsterdam??? Well Mister Chumley Warner you’ve convinced me... I shall not be going there..”

absolute classic haven't seen this in years
Who else suddenly got this in their recommended
1:57 "obviously we can't tolerate this behaviour from the old people." Amazing, what was a joke in the 1990's is a dead serious reality in the 2020's.
Ahem, Balls of Steel Millitant Black Guy...
They got the accent on point
Just pure fucking genius. Comedy at its best
Well second to the Fast Show .
Vikings of nowadays. So lovely, so touchy.
Little Venice sure is like Amsterdam .
When will the BBC release the early Harry Enfield show on dvd as well as the early Lennie Henry material & the Real McCoy shows.🤔
The Dutch 😂👍
Bloody brilliant
Since then they emigrated and now train the police in Vancouver, Canada
I would watch the BBC again if they put Harry and Paul back on. Alas, our public broadcaster has had a permanent sense of humour failure.
Its kind of funny how we laughed at the liberal police in Amsterdam, where now the whole world laughs at the liberal British police.
@@m.p.jallan2172 While the Rotterdam police now fire rubber bullets at protestors!

Harry Enfield followed the money to Sky, thats why he disappeared from the BBC.
Not enough funding for scripted comedy, I love panel shows but they can't be all the comedy on TV
That wing mirror is helping no one.
Captain van der Hastgracht looks quite like an old friend of mine from Rotterdam. 🇳🇱
That's how cool we Dutch are.
Harry in this looks James Duffy from the show traffic cops 😂
Prinzen Ranzen wonzen Verhof an die Stach van den Pig Memorial park™️
I don't know how Paul pulls it off to sound like a Dutchie speaking 'stone coal English'.
spot on
LOL

Yeah true it probably was then, but now this tinkering has changed every part of Western society....
