You have a pleasant/beautiful voice. I would love to listen to some of your work. I just started VO work this year. Your equipment sounds clear and amazing.
Amazing Vlog,Love you simple and straightforward style. I have been a public speaker for many years and am now retired presently in Thailand. I’ve been investigating this field and feel encouraged by this first vlog. I have subscribed and looking forward to more. Thanks!
Great information! I am interviewing to volunteer in the talking books program at my state library as a way to break into this industry. I could not afford the training at some of these studios! Thank you for your video!
I am trying to start out as an audiobook narrator with no experience at all. I am just beginning. The only thing I have to offer in this stage is my voice and my passion for reading. I stumbled across your videos and have learned a lot. I was wondering if I need to take a course or if it’s possible that a very new beginner with no experience can do this job?
Give it a shot! Try reading those royalty free books I mentioned and if you think it's going well, try for a very short book on ACX. A lot of people start their VO careers here and you never know until you try!
Have you narrated books for audible because I like audio books by narrator's reading style plus book plot and cover but k swear I 've heard at lease one book with your voice and yes it is wonderful
Rode mics are very good, but I'm not sure if recording into a camera instead of directly into the computer will give you as clean and professional of a sound that is required by ACX.
@@BaileyVarness Thank you so much for the prompt response. Really appreciate it. I don't see to be able to find clear, concise instructions online about the specific recording process itself. I have a Mac, a USB mic, a video camera and a rode mic. If you get the chance to give me any more pointers here in this area, I'd be ever so grateful.
Thank you! I have no idea about private comments. You can email me at voiceworkacademy@gmail.com if you have a question you don't want to share publicly.
Hey! I just watched this video, I was wondering if there was someone I could talk to for advice on starting my own audiobook narration business with audible ACX. I am an actor looking to get into this business.
Hey! I'm getting the rest of the videos in this series up now. It should teach you everything you need since actors are great for this business. Let me know if you still need help!
Voice Work Academy Hi Bailey I am very interested in becoming a narrator. I am a teacher who has laid off because of cold-19 I read EVERDAY ALL DAY . So why not make money from it on my own. I have watched all your videos but I think I need some hand holding , if your available I would l8me to send you my email For your professional assistance.
Hello Ballie, your voice is extra ordinary. May I have a platform to speak with you personally on narrating some of my books? I would like to recommend you on acx but need your consent.
I was signing up on acx but it says I have to be a SAG-AFTRA member. Isn't that going to cost? How does that work? No one mentioned that it any of the videos I've watched. Everyone just mentions the cost of equipment.
You don't have to be SAG-AFTRA to record audiobooks. Don't worry about joining the union any time soon. Most people on ACX are non union and never join, so it isn't necessary!
Hey! Thank you for this informative, quality content! Can you do a video that shows us more about your home studio? I'm especially interested in the lighting. Thanks! *edit: oh shoot, now i realized you already did a video about your whisper room. What is your lighting system?
Thanks! I just briefly touched on my personal setup. I can do a longer version in the future. The lights in my booth are just really simple puck lights that I have stuck to the ceiling with Velcro. Since it's such a small space it works well. My computer screen also puts out the most light in the space.
I've always been a performer and I wanted to do voice over work, so this seemed fun! There isn't much room in my tiny booth, so I just sit on a small, square ottoman and have a small end table that I use as my desk.
Hello there...hope all is well. Well here's my story. I completed a book on ACX, and it was approved by the Rights Holder. Two days later it was canceled!!! I contacted ACX, and was told that the person claiming to be the rights holder was not the rights holder. The person I spoke to at ACX is saying this is now becoming a prevalent problem...has anyone run into this problem. Please respond!!!
Ugh. That's really lame. I recently heard that this happens sometimes. I'm so sorry it happened to you. I have no idea what the scammers get out of it except maybe hoping they don't get caught and can make money off of someone else's work. This is a recourse I was given to help try to curb that from happening: www.audiobookscout.com/?fbclid=IwAR3kdV4B5Q8PSBblNo4f_FQvoDHh0EFSTtTQ9P66WmjgK-U8SiDWaEfnRfE
This isn't for everyone. If you lack confidence, that will definitely show up in your work, so if you really want to do it, practice with royalty free books and see where it goes from there!
Hey, really liked your video, very informative and you had great spirit. I'm just getting into writing and like just a moment ago I thought: I should make a channel and post my short stories. Now I'm thinking I want to do them in audio book format. Wanted to ask you, in terms of my voice, is there like a guide on how to speak? I'm a bit worried about dialogue, like would I have to change my voice for different characters?
Hey! It's a great video😊 I am really looking forward to be an audiobook narrator.. however, I am unable to begin with ACX because I'm a resident of India and not US /UK. Could you help me out as to where I can begin?
Thank you so much for the videos they were extremely helpful I was wondering if I can have your email if that is something you feel comfortable sharing
Love your voice! It sounds well trained and pleasant. Thank you for these tips.
Thanks so much!!!
I love listening to audiobooks while I work my part time job. This might be a great side job!
It's really fun for some people! It can really depend on the book, but give it a try. Can't hurt, right?!
My boyfriend already has a recording studio in the house to make music. Decided to look into this to utilize it myself. Thanks for the info.
Very cool! I hope it works for you!

Good info! I am trying to figure this out.
Awesome! I'll keep going with the info then!
Nice to know about future studio

they are not more popular...yet, but they are increasing in sales more than e-books every year and may eventually be more popular.
Fair point. Thanks for keeping it real. Soon thought!

I'm a teacher. Does that help me get into audio book narration?
Yes! Teachers are the best because they're already used to storytelling!
What made you start this career? What type of chair and stand/desk do you use?
I've always been a performer and I wanted to do voice over work, so this seemed fun! There isn't much room in my tiny booth, so I just sit on a small, square ottoman and have a small end table that I use as my desk.
I just want to ask when I signed up it is not available in Saudi Arabia or in Philipines..what I will do
I would write to ACX directly and see what's available in your country. They sometimes call it different things in different places.

Wll dang. Where's the follow up video showing how to set up your home recording?
Next one's up now. More coming soon!
which websites do use as your "go-to" for voiceover work!
Sorry, I just saw this comment! ACX I have used a lot over the years. There's always an opportunity there. I also now use Fiverr for commercial work.
I feel like I dont have a usable voice

@@BaileyVarness thank you so much for the response! Hope we get some update soon!
Hello ma'am, did you get a feedback on this??
@@shrutibajaj6425 No, I thought you were going to write to them. Since you're there, it should come from you so they can get you set up.

You're very welcome!
Hello, helpful video. can I be a narrator from country like kuwait, india or Bangladesh?
I would contact ACX directly and see what platform they use in your country. They add platforms all the time!
I never voice acted in my life I doubt if I get hired
You never know until you try! If you enjoy it, give it a go. Why not, right?!
You said that we could but you didn’t say how.
Did you have a chance to watch the rest of the videos in the series?
Hello Bailey please send me a wave icon if you received my comment
I would, but I'm replying on a desktop! :)
