    The history of red begins with a desire for more. And some greatness madness. In the 16th century, the Swedish king wanted his castle to be made of copper, just like the really big castles in Europe. But even the king could not afford copper for an entire castle roof, so the solution had to be to paint the roof with red paint made of pigment from Falu Mine. In any case, it looked almost like copper. And after that, a trend started to redden parts or all of the buildings so that they would give the impression that those who lived there were very rich. Red-colored walls at least about the brick walls that the Swedish greats sat when they rested around in Europe, but they could not yet afford any brick. During the 17th century, lots were built in Sweden and the expensive red color spread in the upper social classes. The king was a great inspirer, or an influencer in his time. For what the king did, the nobility wanted to imitate. Painting red was a way of asserting their status in society and the nobles soon began to paint red as well. The king gained more and more followers over time. To elevate its status, the church began painting the vicarages to make them appear to be built of expensive bricks. And when the nobility and the priests began to paint red, the military did not want to be worse, as soon as the offices of the high-ranking officers were red. Ever since, more and more of the military's buildings have been painted red, and even the soldiers' crofts turn red over time. In the 18th century, the color red was still seen as something very exclusive, and a luxury item that only the rich could afford. Having a red-painted house was a status symbol. It was therefore common for the side of the house facing the road to be painted red, especially if the king were to visit. Then the houses along the entire main street could be painted red, while the alleys and walls towards the courtyards were left colorless. But towards the end of the 18th century, the industrial production of red paint began at the Falu Mine and it became possible to produce cheap paint. Now the big farmers are also starting to paint their houses red.

    I always carry a very small tube of cyanoacrylate (here named Super or Crazy) glue. Your sunglasses would have been repaired in seconds, a modern miracle that is also good for emergency skin sutures in case of, ahhh, the accidental human puncture. They use it in surgery sometimes. Otherwise, a small length (about candy bar-size) of marine epoxy. Once you combine the two halves it is a putty that cures like cement. It would repair the glasses and likely the poor weeping Italian, too.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a magic glue! It can glue skin???? Need that stuff!!!😍

    • @njpaddler
      @njpaddler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Got2Go Glue on skin is a double-edged sword, as spilling it can glue your fingers together, not a happy thing I can tell you. The only way to undo it is acetone (nail polish remover), nothing else will break the bond. It sets in seconds and cures in minutes to make a very, very strong repair. Using less works better, using more can fail. It truly is magical.

    Sweden could do with a bit more mountains but it’s still a very beautiful country.
    I also loved the gravel roads in Norway and Sweden. Just park the car and go for a long walk. You will be all alone and no sounds of any motorized equipment or vehicle; just the wind, water and animal sounds 😎.
    Roofs on old wooden buildings in Norway are often made of wood with grass growing on it; great isolation.

    Your videos has become a favorite, live at the cost in middle Sweden and was thinking about to go the vildmarksväg last year but I didn't got the new car as planned. This year I have to go! It's so nice to have the wiew of an foreigner, it's like a whole new country in yours wiew and I live just a couple of hours away! I'm just like, missing the wiew of south Germany and Austria on my bus trip to skiing in Sölden. 😜

    Hello, I follow you from Spain. I got hooked on your channel for the trip to the North Cape that every biker wants to do but the more I see, the less interest the North Cape produces. however I love the rest of the trip. it seems incredible to me. a trip to do it in 3 or 4 months. so many amazing places .... I loved this chapter. In such a stressful world, your videos give me a feeling of calm and peace that I would not know how to thank you for. thank you very very much

    Another fantastic video, a scenic feast for the senses, the only thing that could improve these (for me) was if the music by Clannad or Pink Floyd (the melodic stuff) I'm so looking forward to when I can binge watch the lot in one hit, lovely!!

    • @Got2Go
