DALSLAND & VÄSTERGÖTLAND: Key Problems and lovely lakes at Håverud // EPS 22

  • From Dalsland to Västergötland and to one of Swedens most exciting roads: Brudfjällsvägen.
    We were only about 300 Kilometers away from the city Gotheburg - but decided not to go straight, but on small roads through Swedens counties Värmland and Dalsland, with another overnight stop.
    On our way we visited idyllic Bjurbäckens Slussar Cafe before we arrived in Dalsland. Dalsland was originally called Dal, "Valley". The name Dal is still in part used locally, for Dalsland, which translated would be "valley land“. No other part of Sweden has its area covered with as many lakes as Dalsland does.
    Over small roads along several lakes we arrived in Västergötland. The southern and eastern part of the province Västergötland is dominated by hills, The northern and western portions of the province belong to the Central Swedish lowland.
    And then we hit one of Sweden's best motorcycle roads: this 8 kilometer long Brudfjällsvägen many people compare it to a rollercoaster.
    With Håverud Hotell we found another hotel at a lake. If I enjoyed a swim again? I guess you know the answer - but you will as well find out in this video!

    Great video as always Lea...and a good choice of accompanying music. Can't believe how clean and nice the lakes are there. I have the BMW keyless ignition and it's a pain in the bum...even when the battery is ok it sometimes won't detect it! It really is one of those inventions that wasn't needed as a key works better....and as you know is harder to loose when in the ignition 🤣🤣😎. Stay safe 👍🇬🇧

    Hi.
    The last time you were in Sweden and here in Dalsland, you drove on a road called Brudfjällsvägen north of Håverud.
    And you said in the video that you thought it was so fun to drive on that road, but then I want to make you aware of the road between Dals-Ed and Nössemark. A distance of about 30 km, I think you will really appreciate that road.
    So if you come up here to Sweden / Dalsland in the future, you "must" drive on that road, I promise you that you will not be disappointed :-)

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another wonderful video I really enjoyed it, and you may remember I'm the chap who told you about the grey plastic chipped emergency key, but the same applies to your key fob if the battery fails you just hold the fob under the rear mudguard were you will find a round recess that is the location of the key transponder unit, hold the key fob in the recess and you can press the keyless ignition and start the bike. I know the bike wasn't your own just surprised this info wasn't given to you, life would have been a lot less stressful.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We actually googled it and watched two TH-cam tutorials when this happened - and we tried to do it with the key fob - but somehow it didn’t work. Then in one forum we found the info that this applies only to the newer versions of the Gs and ours only worked with the chipped emergency’s fob (that we didn’t have). So I still don’t know which information is true, but it definitely didn’t start with that trick. 🤯

      @@Got2Go Yes with the key fob some say take the dead battery out ? and then hold the key fob in the circular indentation under the rear mudguard and simultaneously press the ignition to start the bike in emergency mode, it should work on all of the keyless ride GS's, so not sure why it didn't work for you, it is difficult and a bit of a stretch but you have to do it simultaneously for it to work. But again I have to say I do love the Videos you and your partner make, I truly think you are the most professional of all the ones I like to watch on TH-cam, long may you continue to entertain us thank you...

    Sehr schön, wie immer.
    I preplan most of the riding on the evening before on my laptop in the Basecamp route app. In Basecamp, you make a route and that route you convert into a track. I load the track in my Garmin Zumo. In the Zumo, I convert the track into a route. You can make the track also visible on the screen as a control. Put automatic route correction to off or else the Zumo will lead you to the end point the shortest way. If you pushte route you made in Basecamp from there into the Zumo you ask for problems because, if you miss a route point, the Zumo leads you to the missed point first and then you can do the rest of the route. My way means you can miss a route point without any problem . By missing a route point, I mean that you didn’t exactly ride over the gps coordinate of that point.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I planned like this in the beginning of my worldtrip too - but I gave up on it pretty soon. I guess I realized that I even plan more spontaneously than the evening before. I as well realized that mostly I don’t want to spend time on my laptop in the evening if not transferring pictures or videos - so I then started to more look at normal maps again, figure out the place I might go on the next day and then just navigate more spontaneously. This somehow works best for me.

    Hey Lea, Love your creativity with the intro, so unique. You folks sure had a lot of equipment malfunctions. Looking at the key though there must be someplace it goes or why would it be there. Knowing how good German engineering is I've got to think they anticipated battery failure and a non-FOB solution to start the bike. I would read the manual just so you know what to do should it ever happen again or ask the dealership or a friend. Engineers always have contingencies .... even if it's duct tape 😉😛🤣. For once your travel partner did'nt get lost.... was that the one and only time? 😁 BTW Sluice is used in English too as in Sluice gate for controling the flow of water. I always find languages so interesting as there are so many common words in different languages. Great episode Lea.

    Beautiful video! The scenery is very pretty. The water is so clear and inviting. I agree about keyless ignition. I am not sure of any advantage at all? I think there may be a place to hold the fob for maybe 5 seconds when the battery runs out, and it should start. I will take a key any day over that. I am looking forward to the next episode very much! Best!

      Yes there should have been a place above the rear tire - we tried that but it didn’t work. 🤯

    I like keyless. Been using it since 2015. Its convenient. You should have been getting low battery warnings prior to it stopping all together. And always keep a spare under the seat.

    • @Got2Go
      @Got2Go  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only not so convenient if it would happen somwhere where there are no batteries available or yours are empty/lost. I find it pretty convenient too, but I think that’s why I love the Yamaha Tenere 700 so much - it’s so reduced in all the technology on the bike that I don’t need when traveling (I find that there is so much going on on the led screens of the Bmw that I don’t even look at it or saw any empty battery warnings...). Would love to have a Gs for European roads and a Tenere for long journeys. ☺️
