At the moment I have zero HvZ experience, however I am making it my goal to specialize as an ammo mule specifically for a hunter squad. My plan is to carry as much ammunition in many varieties on my person, while running a blaster I can run independent from the main ammo stock, either a nemesis or an infinus being topped off from a dump pouch. While I have a ways to go, both with the gathering of the physical resources, and gaining the skills to adequately implement this load out. I hope to one day be able to extend the life of a hunter squad to the point where after we are eventually overrun the only thing remaining shall be our empty magazines and stories of warning for the zeds. BANGARANG!
@@grahamturner2640 I could see a back mounted, compartmentalized suitcase being super effective in mobile hunter units as long as stealth is not an issue, which as a hunter is not as common a problem as recon.
If you're interested, a "two man team" is called a "Battle Pair", a "four man team" is called a Fireteam, a Squad is x2 Fireteams working as one unit. and x2 Squads form a Platoon. Though Fireteams, Squads and platoons can contain more members. Also a "three man team" can be called a "Cell", the most well known Cell being a "Sniper Cell" consisting of a "Sniper", a "Spotter" and a "Flanker". I only know this drokk because I created my own fictional military force for a sci-fi TTRPG and did a bunch or research lol.
I’m playing a heavy skirmisher, my plan is an automatic stryfe with a FN FAL kit I found on Etsy. Then I’ll probably carry a mega hammershot and eventually a woozi. 7 15 round mags, 2 12 round mags, and once I get a woozi some talons/katanas. My unit is also building a heavy gun which will get mounted on a tripod with a shield which will automatically make zeds make us want to take us out cus it’ll be huge and intimidating and lane full auto.

I consider myself a heavy infantry / heavy skirmisher. I think at endwar 2019 i had 500+ rounds on a loadout (i could still run in without losing anything) and blew tbrough around half while holding the line. Thats why its so fun, so many tales of glory and ridiculousness
I'm the hunter in my unit most of the time (Harrier for us) Our unit runs as an objective playing infantry unit, and at times where we need to buy time, one of our heavies and myself will break off to skirmish in the hoards path. We use a Paddle-ball strategy where I'll rush in and out from the hoard, going back to the heavy whenever things get hairy.
I think the perfect squad contains a heavy/ammo mule, a medic, a sniper, coms/navigation, breacher, and a leader. For HvZ and longer games add the cook/water boy
Is there a place for a "Sapper" type unit? Essentially, this unit builds traps, pilots either recon or offensive drones, and employs area denial tactics.
@@CaptainXavier An example of an offensive type of drone would be a Terrorscout with a Perseus mounted instead of the stock blaster, plus maxed out hopper.

I was just wondering if this change was a planned thing and you won’t really be coming back to these mods. I would love nothing more than to see these and was just hoping these types of mods would come back. I still really love the content and support you the whole way Thanks
Hunter seems right up my alley. Get a couple friends, and just plink at zombies while having a good time, because if we don't make the most of it now, we won't have a chance to later when the zombies get us. Though I wonder to which end stealth I would be for stealth. I feel like a hunter squad I would be in would be a hooting and hollering group, trying to get the zombies' attention, rather than anything stealthy, but I also think that'd be more likely to get us all killed.
The big events that I go to are one day events. (Well the HvZ part anyway). They are usually multi day events but the other days are different types of events. I will be attending the PSU invitational, Endwar, West vs Zombies, and Ragnaroctoberfest for sure this year. Other events will depend on time and money.

Hello Captain. I've been watching a lot of your videos and have found them engaging and informative. However, as someone without a deep knowledge of the hobby, I find the blasters that you use very confusing. This is partly because there are so many, but also because yours are customised with upgrades and paint jobs. Would you please consider doing a series on "starting your nerf collection"? i.e. What vanilla blasters are worth looking out for or buying on ebay, because they are effective/powerful/moddable/look cool? Either one short video per weapon or a group of similar weapons? Thanks!
I'd keep an eye out for a stryfe or any flywheel blaster that is mag fed, those are easiest to modify and have nice fire power for a single target or multiple targets, and thats not a bad idea

I don't think a single one of your blasters has the original stock, magazine or barrel; I have NO IDEA what you just showed us. :P
I lhave no intention of going to an hvz (or any nerf event, really) but i still watch these because they're just so entertaining to watch. Though if I knew where nerf events were where I live I'd probably go.
I've been planning my loadout for a long time. Select-fire strayven with Kriss vector and cosmetic silencer, and an underslung microburst. a 7 round hammershot as a sidearm. 10 22-bannana mags on a belt. i think it will work out well.

The hunter should maybe run a load out more like heavy because the more zombies they can take away from the main firepower going for the objective the better and when they live to do it again it’s better. So proton pack Jupiter WITH THE ABILITY TO BE HOLSTERED a small pistol shot gun that shots as many darts as possible and a falcon fire spamf for longer range shots. Thanks for comming to my ten talk
So...pretty much exactly what I said in this video...aside from the proton pack part. The reason I did not just suggest proton pack Jupiters for every load out is cost and availability. Proton Packs are not yet available on the open market and even if they were you are looking at hundred dollars in blaster/parts/ammo. Figured it would be rude to rub in the fact that I have access to proton packs when most people do not. :/

Have you done a video on magazine maintenance? I know you seem to favor 22s, but a lot of people can't seem to get reliability out of those. Perhaps they might have a better time if they learned to lubricate them and such.
@@CaptainXavier It's an often overlooked topic, but magazines are like any other equipment. The equipment you care for is far more likely to care for you.
Xavier, one question I have had about HvZ is why all the humans don't choose to run rival blasters? Rival systems just seem better in every way, in some cases performing better stock than heavily modded blasters, and you can carry so much more ammo that you can reload at a faster speed. Besides being more affordable, what is it that make you recommend dart blaster primary weapons over rival blasters?
I said very little about ammo type really. I spoke in generalizations for a reason. But size and cost are major factors. There are no Rival equivalents to Stryfes with 22rd mags that can be easily holstered. Rival mags only hold 7 or 12rds so capacity on semi-auto blasters is an issue. Obviously the big hopper fed blasters are hell on wheels and perfect for Heavy roles but they are not always ideal for some of the other roles, like recon.
So Heavy Infantry you recommend a minimum of x6 mags, and Heavy Skirmishers you recommend x8 mags? Huh... interesting. So the Heavy Infantry has a lower "minimum" ammo requirement and a significantly higher "maximum" ammo capacity (ammo mule and proton pack levels).
If you only had the opportunity to procure one load out, which would it be? Heavy Hunter? Mid Infantry? Select fire primary with mega masterkey and a springer, sharpshooter secondary with a shotgun blast tertiary?
I’m going to Ragnaroktoberfest with some friends and one of them wanted to be a hunter. Then I rewatched this video and thought “I guess we’re all gonna be hunters”
So my Loadout fits heavy skirmisher really well. That blurred line between medium and heavy. I hope this year at the big events you will be able to play instead of being an NPC.

You might want to put noise-canceling foam inside the blaster where it doesn't interfere with the internals, and a bit of foam on the front of the plunger head to act as a cushion. Excessive noise means inefficiency, excessive inefficiency leads to damage.
A four-man team might be okay but the thing is there 3 loadouts. So we have six people two people can kind of loadout so 2 light Hunters 2 medium Hunters and 2 heavy Hunters
Four would be 1 light, 2 medium, 1 heavy. Or a five man team, 2l, 2m,1h. Or how about a 7 man team! 2l, 3m, 2h. Or why not a 10 man...see the pattern? I was referring to a minimum recommended number. Obviously more is better.
so quick question then. as far as ammo mules assigned to squads, would you say that hunters and skirmishers should have the mules with the most ammo or the least for mobility? basically, im wondering if mules should have the biggest packs to supply a higher ammo need or a lighter pack to be able to run as fast as teh rest of the much lighter unit.
Whatever works. I cannot speak for ever squad. And most squads are more of a mix anyway. Ideally your ammo mules would be with a larger slow moving unit that the smaller units can link up with when they need to resupply. Keep in mind, most big HvZs are run in such a way that ammo is rarely an issue. They tend to be shorter missions with breaks between. Or there is a safe zone you can resupply at.
@Matt B if you find a summer camp at its off season thats willing to allow foam projectiles and such that is an option. I have been to larp events at said locations but havent done anything with nerf.
I know _zero_ about HvZ beyond what I've learned on your channel, but is a hit a hit even if you weren't the intended target? What I mean by this is: Say there's a guy... we'll call him Xavier, and he's firing at a Zombie 30 feet away but misses and instead hits a zombie engaging another group. Xavier doesn't notice this, but someone else does. Is it a legitimate hit or is there some grey area there?
That...would not actually be that hard. You would just have to fabricate an addition to the grip that automatically pulls the trigger once the blaster is fully primed.
Isn't any weapon with a proton pack much better to use when you are a hunter?you have literally as much ammo as you will ever need with not that much weight on you,also it doesn't make any noise when you are moving quickly,unlike the damn magazines
Yes...but unlike me, no one else as access to Proton Packs yet so I felt it would be a bad idea to tell everyone, "You should all be using this blaster system that none of your can get. Gosh, get on my level, scrubs."

Just to clarify, this video mentions the possibility of having recon players in a hunter squad, but in the recon video it seemed like recon is mostly meant to avoid combat, and instead focus on scouting out areas and objectives. In the context of a hunter squad, would a recon role primarily be about relaying information of their squad's actions and observations (via radio)? Or is there another use for recon in these squads that I'm overlooking?

IDK but sure sounds really fun if allowed. Probably what I'd do too if possible.
Not really in most HvZ. They are in too big an area and there are no mechanics for things like traps and most campuses are no flyzones.

Xavier, one question I have had about HvZ is why all the humans don't choose to run rival blasters? Rival systems just seem better in every way, in some cases performing better stock than heavily modded blasters, and you can carry so much more ammo that you can reload at a faster speed. Besides being more affordable, what is it that make you recommend dart blaster primary weapons over rival blasters?
I said very little about ammo type really. I spoke in generalizations for a reason. But size and cost are major factors. There are no Rival equivalents to Stryfes with 22rd mags that can be easily holstered. Rival mags only hold 7 or 12rds so capacity on semi-auto blasters is an issue. Obviously the big hopper fed blasters are hell on wheels and perfect for Heavy roles but they are not always ideal for some of the other roles, like recon.

So Heavy Infantry you recommend a minimum of x6 mags, and Heavy Skirmishers you recommend x8 mags? Huh... interesting.
So the Heavy Infantry has a lower "minimum" ammo requirement and a significantly higher "maximum" ammo capacity (ammo mule and proton pack levels).

If you only had the opportunity to procure one load out, which would it be? Heavy Hunter? Mid Infantry? Select fire primary with mega masterkey and a springer, sharpshooter secondary with a shotgun blast tertiary?

I’m going to Ragnaroktoberfest with some friends and one of them wanted to be a hunter. Then I rewatched this video and thought “I guess we’re all gonna be hunters”
So my Loadout fits heavy skirmisher really well. That blurred line between medium and heavy. I hope this year at the big events you will be able to play instead of being an NPC.
I will not be an NPC. I will be a Human and I will be leading the Crew and Auxiliary. Should be fun!

You might want to put noise-canceling foam inside the blaster where it doesn't interfere with the internals, and a bit of foam on the front of the plunger head to act as a cushion.
Excessive noise means inefficiency, excessive inefficiency leads to damage.

A four-man team might be okay but the thing is there 3 loadouts. So we have six people two people can kind of loadout so 2 light Hunters 2 medium Hunters and 2 heavy Hunters
Four would be 1 light, 2 medium, 1 heavy. Or a five man team, 2l, 2m,1h. Or how about a 7 man team! 2l, 3m, 2h. Or why not a 10 man...see the pattern? I was referring to a minimum recommended number. Obviously more is better.
so quick question then. as far as ammo mules assigned to squads, would you say that hunters and skirmishers should have the mules with the most ammo or the least for mobility? basically, im wondering if mules should have the biggest packs to supply a higher ammo need or a lighter pack to be able to run as fast as teh rest of the much lighter unit.
Whatever works. I cannot speak for ever squad. And most squads are more of a mix anyway. Ideally your ammo mules would be with a larger slow moving unit that the smaller units can link up with when they need to resupply.
Keep in mind, most big HvZs are run in such a way that ammo is rarely an issue. They tend to be shorter missions with breaks between. Or there is a safe zone you can resupply at.

University of florida in Gainesville is a great place for HVZ. I havent played at any of the other schools.
@Matt B if you find a summer camp at its off season thats willing to allow foam projectiles and such that is an option. I have been to larp events at said locations but havent done anything with nerf.

I know _zero_ about HvZ beyond what I've learned on your channel, but is a hit a hit even if you weren't the intended target? What I mean by this is: Say there's a guy... we'll call him Xavier, and he's firing at a Zombie 30 feet away but misses and instead hits a zombie engaging another group. Xavier doesn't notice this, but someone else does. Is it a legitimate hit or is there some grey area there?

That...would not actually be that hard. You would just have to fabricate an addition to the grip that automatically pulls the trigger once the blaster is fully primed.

Isn't any weapon with a proton pack much better to use when you are a hunter?you have literally as much ammo as you will ever need with not that much weight on you,also it doesn't make any noise when you are moving quickly,unlike the damn magazines
Yes...but unlike me, no one else as access to Proton Packs yet so I felt it would be a bad idea to tell everyone, "You should all be using this blaster system that none of your can get. Gosh, get on my level, scrubs."
Also those get expensive fast loosing all those rounds

Just to clarify, this video mentions the possibility of having recon players in a hunter squad, but in the recon video it seemed like recon is mostly meant to avoid combat, and instead focus on scouting out areas and objectives. In the context of a hunter squad, would a recon role primarily be about relaying information of their squad's actions and observations (via radio)? Or is there another use for recon in these squads that I'm overlooking?
They would act as Recon for the Hunter Squad.
How many of these are there going to be?
