    You real life tests are among the very best. I’m in the Sony eco-system (a7III & a7IV) and just picked up a new a7C (silver) with tiny 28-60 kit lens for only $1600. As you know, rumors have it that an a7C mark II is on the horizon.

    FYI: Canon R8 doesn't have sensor shift image stabilisation, it only got digital which is done by cropping into the frame.

      True, it has digital stabilization with a crop.

    • @andrewworthen3583

      The A7C also has gyro data for smoother stabilization as an option (which uses digital crop, but only to improve upon the sensor shift method). I still think it is the better camera between the two. Just that 8-bit is such a flaw.

    • @pravithraj
      @pravithraj 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Dammy1998 I used a gimbal along with stabilized Canon lenses. However, gimbals may not be the optimal choice for run-and-shoot situations or if you’re frequently switching between photo and video modes (especially on this hybrid camera with dedicated photo video switch). They also pose a challenge when swift lens changes are required. On the upside, the absence of In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) helps prevent corner wobbles.

    Can't go wrong with either, but the fact that the a7c is 2 going on 3 years old and still being compared to new cameras says a lot
    You can find the a7c around $1500(body) during sales and Christmas time. that's where I picked mine up at. some are going for $1200 used
    The silver top A7C is just a looker and gets complements all the time.

    Digital image stabilization is very different from sensor shift stabilization. The R8 does not have sensor shift stabilization. The sensor does not move at all. There is a crop factor associated with digital stabilization.

    The R8 is definitely a better camera. I was wondering if you were shooting tests using electronic shutter because I've never seen banding at any ISO on the R6 II (same sensor) but I only use EFCS and never electronic as you do lose some dynamic range.

    • @catalin-ap
      @catalin-ap ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Definitely, it you're not talking about battery life (best in class on the a7C, awful on the R8), having or not IBIS, 4k30 shooting time to overheating, dynamic range.
      Otherwise, the R8 is much newer, and probably better from an ergonomic perspective (though none of them shines, when comparing to an R6 II or a7 IV), and if you need 4k60, 4:2:2, to do short clips with a stabilised lens that is.

    I think the Sony form factor has a couple of advantages. For travel, it is a bit more "pack-able". As a 2nd body it should fit better in a camera bag. Of course, if you drop down to the a6400 APS-C size bodies you get even more "pack-ability", though you might want an extra lens at the wide end. Again, as a 2nd body, especially for video, it should be nicer on gimbals, rolling platforms and powered pan-tilt rigs. It would be a nice addition to a small pro video kit. But Sony has to get into 10-bit video. This is especially true when you look at all the a6x00 APS-C bodies and as far as I know, none of them support 10-bit, And then you got to this A7C and 10-bit is _still_ missing? For 10-bit video, I think the AX-30 might be the cheapest Sony has, and I don't consider that a very "cheap" camera. I should add that having worked a bit with Slog-2 and Slog-3, I have found that Slog-3 is fairly useless in 8-bit. Slog-2 in 8-bit is more useful, but you have to cross your fingers and hope you stay in-bounds of the usable dynamic range.

      Sony and Canon are now leapfrogging each other with every new release with competitive products that benefit us all. Far better situation than when Canon and Nikon mimicked each other’s hierarchal product lineups with snail’s pace innovation and limiting features to protect higher priced models. If it weren’t for Sony’s blazing the path for mirrorless technology we’d all still be shooting DSLRs.

    2 camera in the same price range ( at least in europe r8 1800€ and a7c 1700€). I choosed a7c over r8 (200€ cashback) + better battery life, sony AF, sony lenses (with 3rs party lenses no need of an adapter). Overall performances are similar R8 with 40fps is impressive but I'm not a pro and dont need so much 10 is already quiet good for what I do and no need of a viewfinder. Both camera are good choice. Pro would go probably to r8 as 2nd-3rd camera Backup. And I love the style of the the Silver version of the a7c ❤. 😊
