  • Today I am continuing my long running series entitled "What I found at Papa's House" where I take a look at some of the cool gear that my dad has accumulated over the years. In this installment, I take a look at perhaps the best piece of gear in the bunch, his Vintage 1959 Gretsch. This guitar is absolutely magic. It plays great (Thanks to yours truly), and sounds amazing. Seriously, this guitar is a joy to hold, behold, and to play.

That guitar and I were born the same year, and I could do with a bit of renovation, too!

    It's a 6117 Double Anniversary. That pickguard is non-original.

I don't think the bridge is original either. It was advertised with a space roller bridge, and that's an ABR-1 type bridge.

The pickguard is definitely not original. Thanks for helping to identify what model it is!

@@blownmagnet hey man, just looked this model up and you’re 100% right. It’s a 6117 Double Anniversary! I’ll let my dad know!! Not sure about the bridge. You’re probably right. Like I said, in a video: this thing was not very well taken care of. It is magic to play, though.

@@blownmagnet roller britches might’ve been for the ones that came with Bigsby’s, whereas this one has a standard tailpiece. Looking at photos of other ones on the Internet, many of them have bridges just like this one.
