The George Harrison Country Gentleman, amazing tone. Great demo Michael Lemmo and thank you Jen, there's really no one like you on the internet. You Both Rock
Not only did George Harrison play a Gretsch Country Gentleman, Bruce Springsteen did too. The inner sleeve photos of The River album show Bruce playing a Gretsch Country Gentleman.
I had one of these beautiful pre-'70 Country Gents... stolen out of a church in '86... (my binding was perfect and the gold plate was excellent, still miss it. All I have left of it is the key to the case and one photo.
@@markrefoy I bought mine at a garage sale in southern Oklahoma from a fellow who was mighty proud to show me his new fire engine red Japanese Strat and I told him it was beautiful. But I could only get him to come off the price of the 'Gent' $10... So, since it had the original case, I went ahead and paid him $80.🤠 I guess I got the 'key' a 'photo'... and a nice story!
@@R.L.KRANESCHRADTT I got mine in 1990 when I was in Spiritualized, I bought it in Birmingham, paid £1,000 for it, a small fortune in those days. It was stolen from our van in Amsterdam outside our hotel, we were out there for a one off gig. It was such a beautiful guitar and it sounded amazing. I’ll put up a link of one of our early gigs in a bit 👍
Beautiful guitar, you sir are a very accomplished guitarist, loved your renditions of Beatles classics and the take on Jam Man was nice to hear on the guitar's namesake. Well done!
Been saving up for this guitar. Still new to the whole guitar thing I would say. Only a year with an acoustic and cheap electric but this has been my dream guitar since I started.
That is such a nice sound. I was hoping you would bust out with some Stephen Stills. He loved those guitars (Gretsch) I believe the early Buffalo Springfield video has Stills playing a white Gretsch. Thanks again for tonight's ride back in the geetar time capsule.
Why did I expect Michael to play "Baby's in Black" when he announced he was going to demonstrate the Bigsby arm while playing Beatles tunes? Oh yeah, that's a specific instance in which George used it on record. Before I learned about different makes and models, I think my image of the electric guitar was based around this model, the Country Gentleman. I can almost remember being a little thrown when I saw pictures of footage of George holding the Tennessean.
It's expensive, but there is really nothing like the sounds that come from a Country Gent. I prefer it through a VOX AC30 with Celestion blues, a close second is a deluxe reverb with the same Clestion. Is it more versatile than a Strat or LP? Probably not, but then again, neither are Rickenbackers.
I have a 1964 - 1965 Gretsch CG, just like the one he is playing in this video. It has "Significant Binding Issues " what should I do for it? And do you know someone that will snd will do the kind of job it deserves?
The old ones have the double mute. The Tennesseans had a single mute. Now you can play, Misses Brown You’ e Got a Lovely Daughter. Modern Gretchen do not have mutes.
Uncle Normie, if the Italian Stallion, Matteo Mancuso ever shows up at your store, please do a video with him. This kid is the vanguard of the new guitar virtuosos🎉.. Give him a listen on youtube...you will be glad you did!🎉,😅❤ az
Chet Adkins tried to teach me to play the guitar......I was hopeless and he was kind. I wish I knew who he was at the time.......Young and dumb I guess.
Try posting a video of your playing.Ive only been playing for about 35 years but it would be great to see you teach us and then i could compare your version to roughly whats here.
@@nickg2431 Dear friend, I’d love to follow your suggestion. But, two problems: 1) I’m 71 yrs. old and arthritis has claimed victory over my fingers (one of the saddest things that can happen after playing since 1961), hence no video post. 2) Since my comment was made nearly a half year ago, perhaps you could refresh me as to what tune I was talking about, then maybe I could offer you a more detailed explanation via text. Take care and savor your playing while you can. Jeff H.
@@nickg2431I remember now…I was talking about “Here comes the Sun”. After you put the capo on, the chord progression is D (played normally while singing the verse), then go to Eminor instead of G before the A. Try it and see if your ear agrees. If not, throw the G back in. Either way, enjoy.
@@briancherenaacosta923 the gases were contained in the case. The plastic disc in the belt buckle was the culprit. It's because of the type of plastic used. It also caused all the gold hardware to be covered in green crystals. I keep it in a stand permanently now and there are no further issues. It's a common problem with old Gretchs. I love the tone of this guitar despite the hardships.
The way you did "And I Love Her" is fantastic.
There’s really nothing like the sound of a hollow or semi-hollow Gretsch. I think I might start saving for one soon.
Even the base model hollow I had was a riff machine. Idk why my good-ass sold it. :(
There's really nothing like the sound of Michael Lemmo playing any guitar)
the best guitar ever made
My wife bought me a Gretsch last year and I just love it… I haven’t put it down ( until she bought me a Hagstrom HL550 last week…lol)… lucky me!
Wow! Nothing sounds like a Gretsch! I have simple 5236 and I love it!
Chet Picks on the Beatles. Essential. David Crosby sported one too. Thank You Kind Sir.
David Crosby es un microbio al lado de George Harrison en lo que música se refiere
So did Lou Reed and Elvis.
Awesome set Michael! Awesome video Jen!
It has a clear sound, but it just has a richness that I just don’t hear on a lot of other guitars. Lovely sounds on this one!

I strayed away for a little while, came back to see Michael's prowess with the right hand and time signature smoking good . Thanks . :)'

Beautiful looking and sounding guitar and Michael's playing superb as always!
Dream guitar for me right there. Great playing as always by Lemmo!

VERY COOL GUITAR CHET
Wow this is a great demo - even for Lemmo! What a guitar too. He really did it justice
superb playing micheal, that jacket is awesome
What a fantastic video Michael and jen have a wonderful day to be honest I am a fan of gretsch guitars

I keep imagining George listening to you play If I needed someone. Marvelous!... and And I love her 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Awesome, Michael! And awesome guitar. Keep rocking 👍🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful playing, beautiful guitar 👍
Lovely guitar and lovely and fantastic covers.
WoW..........that bit of a song from MY FAVORITE BEATLES ALBUM.......very nice on all.........
In the 60s, my friend had a 50 something Tele with mutes that were operated with a small lever. He was cool. I had a Silvertone 1435.
Great choice "If I Needed Someone".
I never realised the f holes were glossed over! What a beautiful guitar.

Finally something worth showing on here. I have one myself but always like seeing others
" Finnally something worth showing on here"
Jeez, what a very narrow and shallow thing to say.
@@wesleyAlan9179 The only thing narrow and shallow is this show. If I wanted to see Stratocasters and Les Pauls every day I would go to Guitar Center.

I'm not surprised by the response you gave.
Cool axe and sounds amazing but, I will never understand painted on F-holes !! 🤔 Thank you Lemmo thank you Jen !!!
The bottom end of that guitar is mad … Fab ,,gear ..
The version of And I Lover is beautiful
Lou Reed's guitar in the Velvet Underground.
Beautiful!!!
superb stuff
I’ve never been a huge fan of the in between positions but damn I’d buy one of these just for that.
Great sound👍🎸
Mark Hollis played one on Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock
Lemmo knows a lot of stuff! I am surprised no guitars have that back protector. Everyone hates buckle rash.
A lot of people are paying $$$$ for relic guitars covered in buckle rash.
Man that is good playing!!!
What's the song @6:00 ?
It's s cool guitar 🎸 😎

Nice guitar. Nice playing.
beautiful 💎 guitar 🎸 💙 great sound
🎵If I Needed Someone🎵

Yes indeed that famous fishermans song.
I’m sure Noel Gallagher used a country gentleman on the oasis song Married with children,It sounds really dry👍👍

This is like the Elvis Country Gentleman that is on display at Graceland (just a little bit later than George's Ed Sullivan Country Gentleman).
George Harrison and John Squire of The Stone Roses; can't go wrong with it.
And I love her)
John Squire used that exact model in the early days of Stone Roses
He was very innovative with it too; using it with that Ibanez chorus pedal.

6:00 I thought this was going to build to the South Park theme with a looper pedal

Think it's a 65 very nice 👍
What's the last song he played? Or was he just jamming?
I'm looking for a vintage 52 fender telecaster
An Elvis Presley guitar too.
Yes Elvis had one as well a 1966.
What's the name of the first song he played? Thanks in advance.
“If I Needed Someone “ by the Beatles. Written by George Harrison.
Still waiting for the gretsch 9 string country djent
You know, when I was your age, my mother told me NOT to get a tattoo of Roy Orbison........What momma don't know, won't hurt her.
John Squire style
George Harrison's guitar too
Epiphones please
My man! M.L. much love from Manila Philippines
Only electric ive ever seen Elvis play on stage.
George used a capo on 5th or 7th fret. Try it, it’s more authentic…also, it’s a Em7 after the D - not a G.

Lemmo sounds baked, good on him.
Joe Walsh gave one to Pete, and is the sound of who’s next and quadrophenia,
I have a 68 Country Gentleman. The binding is rotting. Don't keep it in the case. Bought it when George Harrison died.
