R1300GS Broken Pannier update - part 2 of our broken pannier issue!

- Follow up of our journey to get our BMW R1300GS panniers fixed! Sadly this is a global issue of the R1300GS panniers and no formal fix has been identified as of yet! The solution they have suggested isn't really a proper solution in my opinion but please feel free to comment below if you would be happy with it!

I ordered my 1300 GS in December 23 with full luggage. The bike did not arrive until June but with no luggage. I did not learn about this until the day before collection. Initially i was offered (and took) a complementary tank bank and soft bag as a temporary measure. Today 25 July the bike had its first service and i was offered a choice; either i could have my money back so that i could buy an aftermarket luggage set or i could take the potentially defective cases with safety straps. No one knows when the replacement corrected luggage is expected and i was told this might not be until early 2025 ( you now mention Mid 2025!) As the cases look good and are fitted with the central locking i took the latter option. In hind sight, and after watching your youtube clip this might have been a mistake! I was supplied with the top box, panniers and two ratchet straps to hold the lids on! I mean this is a 22k BMW motorcycle for F sake ! it now looks just great with two grubby white straps on it! They are not even black with BMW printed on them! This does not inspire great confidence in the bike . If BMW can't stop two plastic lids from falling off, what else might drop off at 70 mph!
Communication from BMW has not been great. Yours is the about the only post i have seen with a similar issue. I have no idea when this might be resolved and what they are going to do about it. BMW Motorrad need to get this sorted ASAP
Obvious solution..go get a full refund for the luggage which obviously isn’t fit for purpose, and get some third party panniers. Just not worth the faff for the Varios’s I’m afraid.

Ah but he also paid to have the function installed on the bike! So whilst it might seem straight forward there is a financial lost installing the brackets and power at factory build
I’m having a similar battle with BMW Customer Service which has been woeful. The other thing to remember here is, there was a cost to have the bike prepped for the keyless various which now are not fit for purpose!
Once again, early adopters being used by BMW for beta testing. Had the GS with the brake-servo issue; BMW did not correct that.
I have a rule for cars & bikes - never buy in first year of production.
@@bsidethecside2283 absolutely, buy the model at the end of the model run, always better than the new model.
Bmw are a headache waiting to happen, Big Money Wasted.
I got new locking mechanism and it works flawless. I live in the Netherlands. Everything works fine!
I use rock straps on my 73 R75/5 krauser panniers. It's a bit of a pain to unclip every time I want to get into the case
the bike itself is truly amazing , much to the chagrin of the nay sayers …but this issue lessens the bike and brand ..BMW should make it right by swapping them out for the Touratech metal panniers as a good will gesture ..as between them they have screwed up and need to resolve it sooner rather than later
Completely agree, these aren’t fit for purpose. I’m going to see if I can reject them for that reason, there is no chance I’m placing white straps around them, that just highlights how poor it is and BMW marketing must be having a hell of a time with this Gerry!
In the mean time BMW has come up with a kit that makes it possible to use the previous model Vario panniers on the 1300GS.
@dirkjacobs440 Good to know. Love the Vario cases on my 2017 model. Tough, durable, and very functional. Why did BMW change them?
@@carleddison7479 I guess they realized a lot of potential buyers did not like the fact they had to take on the expensive new problem panniers. I had the BMW dealership make me an offer to trade in my 2021 1250 GS with 50k km for a new 1300 GS 4 weeks ago, but said I would only consider buying if I could fit my current Vario cases to the 1300. They told me 'not possible'. Last Monday I received an e mail saying BMW HQ just sent out an e mail stating there will be a new kit released fitting the previous Vario cases to the 1300. I'm now awaiting the cost price of that kit.
This is really disappointing to hear - sorry you had to deal with it. I just bought a '25 1300 GS (build date week 34 - so sometime in mid-late August), and I was planning on getting these panniers...they're the right size for me, love how they integrate into the bike, but those problems are a deal breaker. And if you're right, sounds like I won't be able to get them, anyways. Why June '25?
Genuinely no idea why it’s June 2025, they have halted sale until then! It’s a huge issue I would have thought as they would be losing money in selling the panniers with them!
@@Motoscotty Quick update - my dealer called me, and told me that they were canceling my pannier order. Probably for the best, until they get it sorted.
You do wonder how they got it so wrong. BMW have made perfectly sound panniers, top boxes for years on bikes in the K & RT models more recently with central locking. How can the solution be to tie it together that doesn’t seem right.
Had the same problem with the HD supplied panniers on my Pan America I requested a full refund on them then bought a se of Givi luggage.
That is what happens when a company like BMW have their parts made in China, Return the bike not fit for purpose and threaten court action if they do not fix it, make sure the press gets to hear about your issues ie all the bike mags and online when sales plummet they will fix the issue make sure you contact Missenden Flyer on You Tube about your issues he has a massive following

It really is quite spectacular that a heavy hitter in the motorcycle world who can charge a huge premium for their bikes can expect customers to be beta testers for new models. Really not good enough nor fir for purpose.
Buy aftermarket everytime. Guinea pigs are us with BMW.
My Panniers Fell off. No Faith in them at all .On the older Model.
Not fit for purpose, and the idea of straps is crazy, practical but madness, what you paid for does not work. I suspect BMW are arguing it out with Touratech as I heard they were the manufacturer of the luggage.
1300gs is a more expensive bike than 1250 yet its cheaper bmw are a disgrace

Dont get me wrong: Straps are gorgeous but not on a motorcycle.
Take them back tell them to stick where sun dont shine get a refund and buy bumot and a givi 52 top box. Bags of space secure and all for possibly under a grand £.
I have a 1250 tb gs and it will be the best and last BMW I will buy after 20 years of GS's . All this new stuff is nowhere near the quality and over priced and not particularly good looking. Why is the current r1250gsa no.1 seller ??. Hope you get it sorted.
