In many cases, damage of gear such as fracture; corrsive pitting is due to bearing. Just make sure bearing has fully oiled , outer and inner ring of bearing is fully positioned and fixed and bearing box is at upper tolerance with good roughness of surface, then gearbox could use many years, even over 15 years if gear has carburized.

Yes, that was the boss. Typically called "Haji sab" in Pakistan. During the video, he was supervising and using abusive language with his labour.

The pinion and gear are scrap. Before you remachine the bearing bores you remachine the splitlines to allow clean up. Also the mating faces for the endcovers. Depending on circumstances drill the bolt holes on endcovers oversize or weld them up and redrill. even better in the gear case. Lousy job.
If it doesnt work then hit it with a hammer!

You guys need mesh baseball caps that say: EAT AT JOE'S. Then everything will work out just fine.
They pick the housing up from the dirt floor and place it right on the machine table with dirt and chips stuck all over the bottom of it.
The over hang on the one side can’t be good! Half the housing is hanging off the table unsupported.
Picked up the gear shaft with a chain that was wrapped around the bearing surfaces….
These guys should all be wearing a red nose and floppy shoes so they look the part of the circus and clown show!!

Are you BLIND? At 0:33 there is a man CLEARLY cleaning the bottom of the housing! He then comes back with a sharp edged scraper and finishes the cleaning!

@@fordguy8792 You’re the one that’s blind…you dolt! He used a piece of wood to knock off a few hanging chips, then used a piece of sheet metal to barely scrape the bottom. That’s a machined surface that should be stoned before it’s used to locate from.
Educate yourself before you speak clown boy! You have zero knowledge of machining or setting up a job to be machined.

@@sheikhkhalid5969 I've been milling since my sophomore year in high school. I also grew up in an industrial, blue collar area. Almost every family had at least 1 machinist in the trade. It is an awesome profession.
Cool, but what was wrong with milling a rewelded cracked gearbox shaft housing? Those little pits don't matter, not if the repair lasts 10 years. That's how subsistence economies work. Repeated reuse.
Part of my life was spent in the Alleghenies. I can turn stuff in a small lathe. But I make my living as a wood cutter, Miller, bowl maker.
OSHA would have a stroke if they visited.
No steel toed shoes, no gloves, no hard hat, loose fitting clothing. It's all sketchy.
Very disorganized workshop, working in a place like this is asking for accidents at work.

What needs to be depopulated is this repeat copy paste clean nails city slicker attempt at hating with English.
It's myopically ethnocentric.
It requires a lot of skill to work this factory for one hour. You depopulate once and there won't be a working shop for three months. Take that to McDonald's pantry. And also ask OSHA for the number of people who died work related in USA last year.
