EDIT: I will say this is actually a relatively well skilled workshop here, they actually used a dti to clock the gear blank before hobbing.

That place would be shut down if it was in the Uk. I don’t know what that gear is for. But you don’t measure the outside diameter with a vernier. You don’t measure a helical gear with a span mic.

5:27 Bad safety awareness, shields, goggles, gloves, and nearly flying tools. My god, if I did this in school, I would get kicked out of the school by the teachers.
gloves anywhere near rotating machinery will just make the accident way worse. The only time he actually needs them is for removing the gear out of the hobbing machine.

Speaking as a machinist, please stop doubling the playback speed. It's annoying.
There are lots of people in India so if you loose a few in the machine shop it wont matter. I am sure quite a lot loose limbs every year as well.

Sorry but what is amazing about gear hobbing. I was a Manager/Engineer in an industrial gearbox manufacturer. We hobbed, shaved and ground gears for top tier automotive manufacturers and produced high end gearboxes for defence, newspaper printing, mining, water treatment, satellite tracking, etc just to mention a few. The technology shown is really basic gear producing machines old, but still works.

@@Mirza2692 Hi, mostly steel, but also centrifugally cast bronze in some of the bigger gearboxes. For the loose gears which the customer would fit onto their product, they would specify what material and heat treatment processes they wanted. We made gears for many car manufacturing companies so we would work to international standards, BS, DIN, JASC, AISC, etc. Most were case hardening steels.
