    Great to see this, Roger. what an interesting place, and MingMing2 seems to be going very comfortably - the advantages of the junk rig being obvious when the squall comes through. Looking forward to the next instalment.

    That was a beautiful island. I wish you could have gotten in closer.

    I lay for anchor on Bjørnøya a week ago, on a trip to Svalbard. Fantastic trip⛵️😀

    So nice to finally have another video from you ! I thought maybe you had problems with health or your fine craft. Is that bear island inhabited? I am not really certain of just where you are. I believe some where above 60 degrees latitude. Maybe I can find that Island on google. I am glad U r still floating altho this is 5-6 months ago. Be safe.

    Please remember to shut off the auto focus on your camera. Couldn't see the dolphins but that rope sure looked good and clear. Stay safe young man!

    Great stuff! Am curious what kind of internal cabin temps you were seeing with hatches closed.

    • @junkming
      @junkming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cabin is probably round about 10 - 12 degrees C. I force myself to acclimatise, which the body does quite quickly if it has no choice!

    Nice paper charts, what was the survey date on the island chart?
    I saw on the passage chart that Bear Is. is surrounded by local magnet anomaly , it must be a magnetite upthrust, did you notice any strange deviation?

    i enjoy your videos. That are fantastic pictures, but why did you choose to have no engine? It is a kind of purity sailing? An engine could be a live saver or you could make an easier landfall and do some walking on the coast...

    • @junkming
      @junkming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a pure sailor. Plus an engine takes valuable space and weight, better used for stores and water for longer voyages. And even if I could get in close I would never leave the boat untended and go ashore. These are remote, dangerous and uninhabited islands.

      Thank you for reply, now i understand better. I just ordered your books. I am curious to read them...

    I think I have all of your books but last one disappear in mystical way from my boat (may be my friend stole it). So I need to order second one. I hope you write new book.

    nice vid, is 12 miles a safe distance on all your island?

    • @junkming
      @junkming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      12 miles keeps me in international waters.

    Months of planning and days of sailing and you don't go ashore? I don't understand.

      I am sailing a tiny engineless boat singlehanded in extremely remote and uninhabited places. The greatest risk is close inshore. Most of these islands have high cliffs, under which the winds are completely unpredictable and squally. And even if I could get into one of the very few suitable anchorages (Bear Island has only one tight anchorage which I would never try to enter), I would never leave the yacht untended anyway. Much better to stay safe and relaxed just offshore, enjoy the scenery, and keep to the rhythm of the voyage. I hope that helps your understanding. Roger

    Would you please give me your thoughts on whale strikes
    Thank you

      Best avoided, but almost impossible to avoid! If you keep watching these videos you will soon see amazing footage of us sailing in very close company with three huge humpback whales. They knew the boat was there and were respectful
