- Roger Taylor made his name writing books about his solo voyages into gale-torn northern latitudes in his 21ft Corribee Mingming. Yachting Monthly's Dick Durham meets him while refitting Mingming 2, an Achilles 24, to find out where he's going next
More like this please. Much more interesting than the floating villas with a real estate agent running about showing the jacuzzi in the aft cabin..
agreed. more vids for PBO readers. "affordable" yachting
I agree, these 100+ feet luxury boats are very very boring
God Bless you Roger and Mingming2! You are an inspiration to all new Sailors! 🤘✌️👊
"...after 70 days, I might be ready to come ashore, I might EVEN be ready to have a bath." haha
Roger is an absolute legend. I’ve read most of his books and found them astonishing! Highly recommended to real and armchair adventurers alike.
One of my favorite sailors getting an interview with one of my favorite sailing medias!! Hell yeah!! Congrats Robert & Dick for a splendid interview!
It was wonderful to see his boat underway. Great work.
Glad to see he found a hobby after Queen.
its great to hear all about rogers thoughts and design concepts
Just stumbled across this video, great stuff to encounter after reading and watching Mr Taylor's stuff for years.
The jester guys have given me so much knowledge.
I love the fact some of them rock the twin Keele
I want a 30ft twin Keele. A k30 fitted to look like a Hans Christian inside would be my dream.
most people talk smack about them but I just think any bonus at sea from a fin is irrelevant as what use is a boat that falls over twice a day unless you bolt legs to the side.
Ming ming is bad ass!!
Goog God, this man is cool.
Inspirational , for us older sailors.
Perhaps in only a few years 90 degrees North will be possible, not that we want it.
Bon Voyage 2014.
Awesome boat!
Inspiring!
Just ordered one of his books.
Brilliant design from a true seafarer. So pleased to have met up with you yesterday and to hear of your adventures first hand.(And thanks for the lunch)
He is the real deal. Who is the best junk sail designer and maker in the UK ?
Having only experience sail a Catalina 22 I enjoy seeing some of the things on my wish list on the boat. The forward view port is great when you are single handed. The step & walking room on deck. I wonder if he can set up to steer from the cabin.
I'd like to see a modern manufacturer get behind junk rigs. It would do better with some modern materials and design behind it.
Parabéns barco espetacular, uma dúvida: qual material do mastro, devido a ele ser auto portante?
Hi Roger,
What do you think of MingMing 2's sailing qualities in general and compared to MingMing 1? Why did you choose the Achilles 24, an old boat in terms of construction, design and style, and not a more modern boat?
Regards
Paul
The spirit of the great Blondie Haslar lives on
Been following his series on TH-cam, who would have thought 10 minutes of very little happening would be captivating? Just don't let the missus know! One thing you don't appreciate fully in his own videos so much is how little the boat is...
Interesting sailboat.
Very inspiring Mr. Taylor.
he has a channel here on TH-cam.
FrekeOne Thank you, but I don't think you even know what the word Inspirational means. Whats it mean then? " to Inspire:)"
Wow, EXTREMELY professional! I wonder if THIS Achilles 24 (with Junk rig) is better than a Contessa 26 (also with junk rig) for Atlantic Ocean crossing(s)?
Its faster
Contessa is fast when it gets rough. The achilles (mm2) is likely faster in light airs.
I hope he takes a better camera with him next time. Would make even more awesome videos.
is it me or does it need more ballast to the rear just looked abit nose down or is that a good thing?
I'm learning the ropes go easy ;)
What's the name for that style of rig/sail?
It's called a junk rig, as invented I believe by the Chinese. It's usage for this type of application (Small, self contained single handers) was popularized by Blondie Hasler, who back in the 1960's rigged his Folkboat "Jester" similarly, and who made many of the same hull and cabin mods that Mr Taylor is undertaking.
See junkrigassociation.org/ for lots of information about junk rigs and friendly enthusiasts.
In western terms, it is a fully battened, balanced lug rig.
This music is terrible.
If you were from that nation you would not be saying that. IMO
