    This is awesome! I wish there where more of these videos on TH-cam! I think those random island are really interesting and I'm very curious what happened to this village or what ever that was! How the hack did you guys get there? Was it an international expedition or have you went there on your own? I wish I could explore those islands too! Great video! :D

      I was in the coastguard during that time, so we went for a trip to the island to explore a little bit. Sadly my battery ran out on my phone, otherwise the video would've been much longer. We saw a little Arctic fox when we got closer to the mountains. I think the small village got destroyed during WW2. The place had a lot of coal as well, which you can see in the video. :)

      Was ich interessant finde ist, wie langsam der Verottungsprozess dort voranschreitet aufgrund der extremen Artenarmut und geringe Aktivität (Bakterien, Pilze usw.) ausgelöst durch die viel zu niedrigen Temperaturen. Kann mir vorstellen, dass es dort durch den Klimawandel grüner werden wird, es sieht doch sehr karg aus.

    All those stones and no one made a stone hut/castle? Amazing place, would love to live there for a few months exploring. Even from an archeological/minerological standpoint. This island has secrets.

    This is just about as wild as any part of Europe gets. This island was considered “no mans land” until 1920 when it was claimed by Norway as part of Svalbard Archipelago. No settlement has ever survived there for long....just a lonely, wind swept island in the middle of the Barents Sea.

    • @WiggyRS
      @WiggyRS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, its only a few people living north of the island. Not sure how long they are there, but i think its 6-9 months before they change crew.
      During this time i was in the Navy (coast guard), so we used one of our resque boats (sjøbjørn or seabear). If you look closely at the beginning of the video when i record the ocean, you can barely see the boat (tiny little orange dot)

    Is it possible for civilians to move there now? Does the Norwegian govt allow people to move there? Would it be difficult to find food and fresh water? I am thinking about moving there to do some writing and live off the grid, into the wild type of living.

    • @WiggyRS
      @WiggyRS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ive been on the Island a couple of times (only the northern part) and theres loads of small lakes with fresh water. There is no one saying you can't be on the island. Ive personally seen private sailboats around the island. But Mostly trawlers. Food might be a problem. Only animal Ive seen there is seagulls and artic fox. On the northern tip of the island theres a radio station with a couple of people living there. Theres also many small cabins around the island(one of em are in this video).

      @@WiggyRS Hi I'm curious - that cabin you found.. what is the purpose of that? It looks like it is a recent living quarters of someone as it wasn't all cobwebbed and rusted out and seems sort of modern? is it just there for whoever needs it?

    • @WiggyRS
      @WiggyRS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@basehead617 far as i know, the cabin is for the crew that lives on the northern part of the island. There is a radio station in the northern part. Think they use the cabins if they want to go for a little walk, and can sleep there over night if they want to. We were in another cabin as well, but its not in the video since i ran out of batteries...
