Before i first spoke in tongues i had been praying for the Lords presence( Holy Spirit) to be in me in an apostolic prayer room. Two altar workers were praying quietly for me and laying hands on me but i don't even remember hearing them speak in tongues. They just told me to ask the Lord for what i wanted. So i fervently began to. After a few minutes i heard footsteps and then the pastors voice telling me to stand up and recieve the Holy Spirit. I stood up and lifted my arms while still keeping my eyes closed expecting to recieve. Immediately i saw this window appear to my upper right. It had what looked like those old fashioned shutters on the outside ends of the window and they were wide open. I looked in the window and saw this beautiful blue sky. Then a bright light appeared at the far left corner inside of the window and started to move across my field of vision. When it reached the center point it stopped and shined on me. Then i felt a warm rising up ny legs starting at my ankles. It continued rising up my body as it approached my head. I felt like my body was being filled with a warm oil. I was rejoicing and thanking the Lord for answering my prayer when i heard the pastors voice in front of me telling me to surrender my tongue to the Holy Spirit. So i stopped thanking the Lord, opened my mouth and starred relaxing my tongue as a way of surrendering it. Suddenly i felt control of my tongue seized and i began to fluently speak in tongues. The effect was staggering. I felt " beside" myself i was so full of joy. Now i knew why the church people were shouting in the service, dancing and running the aisles. I led the way out of the prayer room and stopped and faced the seated congregation. Suddenly i felt such love for these people and really didn't know any of them this being my first visit to the church. I felt like i had a small sun in my head and i could feel its rays shooting out from around my head and face.
I just prayed that prayer with you because the gift of tongues gives power. In these last days, we need more power to serve God, to witness. I know i don't want to go to heaven alone. I want to bring someone with me. At any time He may call me home. I want to please Him with however many days I have left on this earth. Especially now, because our society is confused in so many ways. They need the gospel more than ever before. None of us know what exacty is ahead, but we need His power to be his witness. I know I need it. I am 80 years old. Thank you for your message.

Am a believer from last 8 years but I don't have gift of tongues. Whenever I saw people speaking in tongues in there prayers.I always thought God why I don't have this supernatural gift ?? And I start praying for it continously. One day, am cleaning my room and I just say to god tell me what should I do for you? Holy spirit spoke to me🙂 He ask me to forgive my two friends with whom I have a fight from a year. I don't spoke to them atleast for a year. And said no god I can't do this. This is impossible. But holyspirit say this to me again and again. After an hour I said okay lord but I don't know how I can do this. And god himself make a way so that I can apologize to them. After this will happen I feel so frustrated because I don't feel good. But when I came into my prayer I received the gift of tongues 😃. This is the power of forgiveness or I would say obeying holyspirit 😄🔥
The gift of tongues was used to help the early church grow. This gift has since ceased. Please don’t let anyone fool you. Speaking jibberish is not from God. As one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is self control.

I think I received the gift of speaking in tongues but I doubt it a lot because I feel like it's a tongue that I heard other people while praying idk just pray for me guys

Follow the way of love and eagerly DESIRE gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. (1 Cor 14:1). He WILL give them to you (Lk 11:13). After you get it, ask for more. You WILL sing in tongues. He will give you the melody when you sing; you just have to tap it. (1 Cor 14:15).

People like Billy Graham never spoke in tongues yet he was the most powerful speaker over the last 100 years - he was baptised with power without tongues
For me I received the gift of tongues last year. I had already turned back to God and repented of all my sins a year before and was really seeking God. So I starting praying every day the same prayer to receive tongues for 30 days straight before I received it. Now that I have had it for almost a year I have starting receiving the interpretation of the tongues pretty often. Apostle Paul says to seek all the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I was Baptist by mother and Father,I move to Texas,I met new friends,They believe in speaking in tongues ,I work with them,They said I was not save,I attended different church trying to find out what they're talking about,I found a church in Houston,pastor was saying just open your mouth,every person around us was doing that,one day I started doing what I was I heard,my father said I taught you about Grace and mercy in Jesus, my daddy because sick,and I prayed in tongue,over him,had my oil,anointed him, and played my hands on my daddy,something was trying to come in my hand, I pulled my hand back,next day he was in hospital,my sister work there,she said two doves stay at the window,she would run them away,the would come a minute later back.my sister and I was last to be with him,next morning half of sleep,I heard the doves two of them, sounding like a dove,and then I would hear them in English,telling my father it's time to Go,my dad will say I hate to leave Alma,my my mother,come on everybody is waiting on you, my sister didn't hear the conversation, Doctors rush in, we had to leave,I got in my car and went for ten minute drive to my old house, neighbors said your Daddy just died.

I’m 2 years late but thank you for sharing. I grew up in a church that spoke tongues but if didn’t know if it was legit. I went to a different church and they said noo it’s false. Then I did my own research a few months ago and found out no it’s legit. I have been praying for the gift of tongues once I learned the truth through the word of God.

Beautiful. I liked your testimony and your sincerity. I believe in speaking in tongues and I wanted this gift since long time. So I am trying to pray in tongues because the Word says “For anyone who speaks in a tongue, does not speak to people but to God” but still I have doubts if I am faking and just forcing myself, and as you mentioned in your testimony, I don’t want it to be fake if I force myself to do it. Why am I doing this? because I have been praying for my son (not with tongues) who was laid off from his job after the COVID, but till today (Jan 13) my prayers were not answered. So God put on my heart to pray in tongues but the problem is that ten minutes and I am bored 😢. I receive your prayer at the end of the testimony and pray that God confirms to me that I am not doing it wrong 🙏🙏

You could stand up there all day long doing this so called speaking in tongues and never get it right. Read your Bible will you? The only reason I responded to this video is it went to my homepage and if Babes in Christ see it they will see it should not be used. Have you ever seen an English-speaking evangelist preaching in a Spanish country? Notice he has a "translator" with him repeating his words from English to Spanish? Or an English-speaking preacher preaching in Germany, how he has another man with him on the stage speaking in German as the preacher speaks in English? Is that speaking in tongues or language? I'm not here to trash you, just pointing out you made a false video.

She says she believes in Jesus but her life never changed and she hasn’t yet read the Bible… I’m not sure if she prays or not? I identify with your experience. I am the most logical person in the world. That said, a lot of logical things are being taught, stuff that I would consider IF, my experience had never happened. So my experiences of speaking in tongues is the only legitimate way that I know that my walk as a believer is real. I can say without doubt that what happened and continues to happen is of no actions or desires of my own. Reassurance that scripture is right.
What an amazing testimony! I love how personable you are in your videos. There is a genuineness that just radiates off of you. I was not raised in the church, and actually used to make fun of Christians, but that all changed three years ago. God had to really humble me and take everything from me to get me to see the error of my ways and I’m so glad he did. I received the gift of tongues about 6 months after coming to faith. After about 3 months of believing I started seeing videos of people doing it and I wanted to know if it was real and still active. Well I tried to do it for a few months, but I would always stumble over my own efforts and couldn’t think up syllables fast enough. I would make it like 3-4 seconds and then stop because I knew it was my own effort and not the Holy Spirit. Then one night, I watched a teaching online telling me that you have to just step out in faith and let the Holy Spirit give you the utterance. Within a few minutes, I was speaking in tongues. I went for about 5 minutes and was just amazed because I knew that while the sounds were coming from my mouth, I wasn’t thinking them or choosing them. So amazing!

Beside the instant healing for your ankle how else has God used it in your personal life in worship. I am not denying it I am just curious. How do you experience the Lord differently compared to a prayer for the FILLING of the Holy Spirit?in English? Where does scripture differentiate between the gift of the Holy Spirit and the Filling Of the Holy Spirit? ( Galatians 5:22-23) I am not saying it doesnt I would just like to know Thanks Ashley. Your heart for the Lord is such a blessing. I cannot you dont have more subsrcribers. I am older so cant think of others to share with. Our church is very small. As you continue to pray in faith like you are God WILL bring the right man in your life. You are never too old (You dont look old) Age is just a number Gods number is perfect (Hebrews 11:1)
Hi! Thank you. I grew up in a very legalistic church that didn't believe in the gifts of the spirit. So, if anyone had cause for doubt it was me! But, I do believe it's a gift for every believer. I'd highly recommend reading "Living Water" by Chuck Smith. It really answered EVERY question I had as I struggled to believe wether rhe gift of tongues was even real.
I ordered Living Water today.Will be anxious to read. You talked about your frustration about your ankle not healing for so long Gods healing for your ankle came. Once you experienced speaking in tongues the next day, So... what would be the difference in that compared to speaking in tongues for God to bring the RIGHT man into your life? Totally just curious how God would work in different situations.
Praying in the spirit doesn't require an interpretation. Speaking in a public place like church to a gathering of people is where the interpretation is required. Hope that helps!

It’s like the Bible it’s not enough for them so they need emotions and stuff like that in order to believe in God. Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12,13,14 make the case for tongues(languages) to be for the unbelievers. I pray they come out of that mess.
Why would you need to pray to the Lord in tongues? he understands your heart and language. He is the originator of all languages. We don't even have to pray out loud pray to the Lord in your heart and he will hear you.
Personally, I let the Holy Spirit take control when I can't really think of words to use. I was also taught that according to 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. And especially 1 Corinthians 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. That your prayers go directly to God. As in, no interference from demons blocking your prayers. It also seems to fight off demons. On a physical level though, it's been reported that there are health benefits for people that pray in tongues for a long time. The most extreme example I've seen is a testimony from Reg Morais, who the Lord cured of autism and other mental conditions.
Hey, great question, there's a different feeling when you pray in tongues. It's like you're entering into a spiritual battle and you can sense that presence.
We receive the Holy Spirit when we’re saved. Otherwise if it was receiving tongues as “proof” it means the rest of us aren’t saved. I am saved and I don’t speak in tongues.
Do you still have the gift of tongues and have you ever had anyone interpret the words you are speaking in ? Or have you ever been able to interpret your tongues to people ?

Not everyone is going to get the gift and it's really stupid if you believe that. Some people might get it and some people might not get it. But not having that gift doesn't make you a bad Christian and does not mean anything. Also why don't you pray for the gift of interpretation instead? Cos there are tons of people speaking in tongues in Churches and in most Churches there's no one to translate what they say
The Bible says to desire the gifts, it's in us to desire them. It builds on our relationship with God. I know for me personally it was a desire to be in closer connection in prayer.
@@169provebs What? Do you not think God can understand you in English? I heard this one woman in a church once saying this over & over, I got sand in my eye. After the service I said to her, I hope you get that sand out of your eye. Others looked at me and said he understood her. Yes, and so did everyone else.
It’s unfortunate that there is so much confusion with this topic. So many different beliefs, and doctrines. For those of you who are seeking God and witnessing such confusion, i’m sure you are wondering why are there so many different beliefs. So, let me explain. Many people have searched scriptures, studied scripture, and preached scriptures without the guidance and grace of God. And because of their lack of love, obedience and humility, God resist them as he only gives grace to the humble. This automatically forces them to lean onto their own understanding and come up with all of these different beliefs and doctrines. God is not the author of confusion and he will teach us the very same things when we genuinely seek him, love as he has commanded and approach him with complete humility. when you do, God will show you clearly that tongues is in fact a gift of the Holy Spirit that God will give you as he will, and when he will. Speaking in tongues is not an entitlement and all Christians do not speak in tongues. This is why in 1Corinthians chapter 14 verse five Paul says, “I wish ( Greek word for would) you all speak with tongues.” If I had all my children standing around me, and I told them that I wish they were all my children, they would think I was crazy and state that “we are all your children” But if I had a group of children around me with some being my children and some of them not. Then I could rightfully say “I wish you were all my children” that would make sense. That’s the very situation in this case. Paul is addressing the body of Christ telling them that he wish they all spoke with tongues because he understood that they all didn’t. But if they all did speak in tongues as so many people claim today then they would wonder why is Paul saying this if they were all Pentecostal pushers as we have today. This is why so many people are being prayed for and not receiving the gift tongues because God is not honoring their misunderstanding. Regardless of how many excuses they come up with or if they teary all night. So she did right by not going up there for prayer because it’s not an entitlement gift as they seem to push. This confuses so many believers and causes them to pretend many times. Whenever you receive the gift of tongues, you should know it’s from God as it is very supernatural and is only granted according to his will and no one else’s. Pray for it and desire it, but desire gifts that will benefit the body and not just yourself. And most importantly, make sure your love is in check and your humility And that you live holy for God. I say this to all the proud, humble yourselves before the Lord and come to him empty-handed. Restudy in complete humility, holiness and love and he will open up the eyes of your understanding! There is so much I would love to say concerning this, but I will end on that. Glory be to God!
I couldn't agree more with this comment! I spoke in tongues for the first time today and i cannot possibly explain how the words were flowing out of my mouth, how my body was reacting to them and the almost out of body feeling i felt at times. It all came from the deepest desire to draw closer to God and i always thought speaking in tongues was a joke and fake. I looked up a very good teaching, gathered all the scriptures, looked them up for myself in the bible and was extremely compelled that this was something for all to seek. I then prayed in faith that God would give give me this gift.. i felt awkward but started to pronounce syllables and the rest is history... please be encouraged and trust God, let go of unforgiveness, cling to the one who Loves you. Here are the locations of the scriptures that talk about speaking in tongues: some refer to speaking diffrent languages and tongues for interpretation but i understand theres a diffrence between the 2. Unforgiveness is definitely one of the things that can not only hinder us from receiving God‘s gifts, but even being forgiven by God. Pray that God will also give you the gift of interpreting tongues so you bless and edify others also! You also mentioned about drawing closer to God. When we genuinely have that desire, God is ready and willing to draw near to us also!

I believe 1 Corinthians 14:10I will look it up. If it it is done and imterprited I totally accept and attended a church ( The Chicago Tabernacle ) Of course in Chicago where it models the Brooklyn Tab in New York City They have just an awesome choir . TBH now I am not sure you are the one that wasd talking about Tounges If not very very sorry 2) Since I have a brain injury I talk lot which means also type a lot Sorry Point #2 When my wife and I got married of course our wedding vows were "In Sickness and In Health" You just dont really think about lt just say it. I was a very analytical man just like you as a woman to make sure this was Gods women as my wife We had a great marriage for 15 yrs traveled where involved together musically. Our personalities and our temperments were an awesome match in about every way. Then all these HEALTH ISSUES near fatal and then the words in those vows really come to life when you have 2 people with disabilities . Because ours are both neurological it has had a negative impact on our marriage Thankfully our marriage was strong enough to these challenges we STILL deal with 10 yrs later. My wife has tried every treatment possible and I still have some neurological issues. This is the type of stuff that, as a child, made me horribly fear that I wasn't saved because I didn't have these magical experiences you nutters claim to have. Why do ppl seem to always get the gift of speaking tongues but not prophecy, or holding snakes or drinking poison like mark 16 says. It's always the easiest one to fake.
Gifts of the Holy Spirit are often abused by people and I think that false prophets are all around, so many are afraid to even pray for the gift out of fear. I speak in tongues, I have cast out demons, I lay hands on the sick and they have recovered. This is the commandment Jesus gave all of his follows. Mark 16:17-20. The same Holy Spirit gives all the gifts. Can anyone who has the Holy Spirit speak prophecy? Yes. But that doesn’t make them a prophet. There is a mantle (or assignment) of a prophet that is different and for the whole church. Then their is personal prophecy that can be given. I have received many dreams and visions from God that were just for my family that were prophetic but I am not a prophet. I did have 2 dreams that would be prophetic toward the whole church but that still doesn’t make me a prophet. All the gifts are for today. Go look up David Diga Hernandez and Kathryn Kirk.

Corinthians teaches how Gifts of Holy Spirt are like many body parts, made up of one body, from the same Holy Spirit. Not one part (gift) can say to another I don't need you as all work together. Question: Why do some teach the Gift of Tounges comes first place before one can manifest in the other Spiritual Gifts? If all gifts are equal, yet Paul says I would rather you Prophecy, why not ask for Gift of Prophecy or Healing instead? Nothing wrong with Gift of tounges for (self edification) however there seems to be this preoccupation in the church to make everyone receive the Gift of Tounges as a first instance? Can we not in the same Faith receive the Gift of Prophecy instead, considering how the Holy *Spirit gives to each one (gifts) as He Determines*. *1 Cor 12:* 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just *as he determines.* 31 *Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.* *1 Cor 14* *Intelligibility in Worship* 14 Follow the way of love and *eagerly desire gifts* of the Spirit, *especially prophecy.* 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, *but I would rather have you prophesy.* The *one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets,* so that the church may be *edified.* 12 So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to *excel in those that build up the church.*
How do you know your gift is authentic and you are not making words up, or that your brain is improvising meaningless words? I can do the same gibberish, it is not a phonetic tongue.
Hey, great question, I think this was my biggest doubt going into prayer for this gift. I would encourage you to read the book "Living Water " by Chuck Smith. To answer your question, my imagination isn't that good, I wish that it was, but the words that come out of my mouth are not fabricated in my mind, they're not thought about how to say like Normal speaking, they're also extremely powerful and they flow together in perfect harmony and unity. Unfortunately, of myself I'm not capable to beautifully create a new language. It's not from me, it's a gift from God of a new tongue.

Creativity is a selection process that requires intuition, but languages are "muscle memory" for the brain, improvisation is not that difficult, anyone can do this. I can do this too, in fact I used to do that, sounds great of course. But the problem is, the Bible describes tongues as human languages that can be translated. All these manifestations I have heard are not human languages, I literally never heard one phonetic language in any of the churches I have entered. I have heard many sermons about this, mostly Derek Prince, and I get the whole "have faith that you receive a good gift when you ask", but the truth of the matter is: it's not a language. "Tongue" is an English archaism for "language". So I don't know, I am 99% sure this whole modern speaking in tongues is a self-suggested improvisation driven by the desire to be spiritual and to somehow have a supernatural interaction, but these manifestations are never verified with an interpreter, as the Bible says to do. So I cannot conclude this is authentic, according to the standards of the Bible, it does not matter how I feel about it. Also, interpreting is not "listening to whatever thoughts come into your mind when you hear this 'tongue'", it's translating a human language. Such languages are named exactly at Pentecost according to the region of the listeners, it was not a random unintelligible babbling...

Before i first spoke in tongues i had been praying for the Lords presence( Holy Spirit) to be in me in an apostolic prayer room.
Two altar workers were praying quietly for me and laying hands on me but i don't even remember hearing them speak in tongues. They just told me to ask the Lord for what i wanted. So i fervently began to.
After a few minutes i heard footsteps and then the pastors voice telling me to stand up and recieve the Holy Spirit.
I stood up and lifted my arms while still keeping my eyes closed expecting to recieve. Immediately i saw this window appear to my upper right.
It had what looked like those old fashioned shutters on the outside ends of the window and they were wide open.
I looked in the window and saw this beautiful blue sky. Then a bright light appeared at the far left corner inside of the window and started to move across my field of vision.
When it reached the center point it stopped and shined on me. Then i felt a warm rising up ny legs starting at my ankles. It continued rising up my body as it approached my head.
I felt like my body was being filled with a warm oil. I was rejoicing and thanking the Lord for answering my prayer when i heard the pastors voice in front of me telling me to surrender my tongue to the Holy Spirit.
So i stopped thanking the Lord, opened my mouth and starred relaxing my tongue as a way of surrendering it.
Suddenly i felt control of my tongue seized and i began to fluently speak in tongues. The effect was staggering. I felt " beside" myself i was so full of joy. Now i knew why the church people were shouting in the service, dancing and running the aisles.
I led the way out of the prayer room and stopped and faced the seated congregation. Suddenly i felt such love for these people and really didn't know any of them this being my first visit to the church. I felt like i had a small sun in my head and i could feel its rays shooting out from around my head and face.
I just prayed that prayer with you because the gift of tongues gives power. In these last days, we need more power to serve God, to witness. I know i don't want to go to heaven alone. I want to bring someone with me. At any time He may call me home. I want to please Him with however many days I have left on this earth. Especially now, because our society is confused in so many ways. They need the gospel more than ever before. None of us know what exacty is ahead, but we need His power to be his witness. I know I need it. I am 80 years old. Thank you for your message.

He ask me to forgive my two friends with whom I have a fight from a year. I don't spoke to them atleast for a year. And said no god I can't do this.
This is impossible. But holyspirit say this to me again and again.
After an hour I said okay lord but I don't know how I can do this.
And god himself make a way so that I can apologize to them.
After this will happen I feel so frustrated because I don't feel good. But when I came into my prayer I received the gift of tongues 😃.

He WILL give them to you (Lk 11:13).
After you get it, ask for more. You WILL sing in tongues. He will give you the melody when you sing; you just have to tap it. (1 Cor 14:15).

For me I received the gift of tongues last year. I had already turned back to God and repented of all my sins a year before and was really seeking God. So I starting praying every day the same prayer to receive tongues for 30 days straight before I received it. Now that I have had it for almost a year I have starting receiving the interpretation of the tongues pretty often.
Apostle Paul says to seek all the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I was Baptist by mother and Father,I move to Texas,I met new friends,They believe in speaking in tongues ,I work with them,They said I was not save,I attended different church trying to find out what they're talking about,I found a church in Houston,pastor was saying just open your mouth,every person around us was doing that,one day I started doing what I was I heard,my father said I taught you about Grace and mercy in Jesus, my daddy because sick,and I prayed in tongue,over him,had my oil,anointed him, and played my hands on my daddy,something was trying to come in my hand, I pulled my hand back,next day he was in hospital,my sister work there,she said two doves stay at the window,she would run them away,the would come a minute later back.my sister and I was last to be with him,next morning half of sleep,I heard the doves two of them, sounding like a dove,and then I would hear them in English,telling my father it's time to Go,my dad will say I hate to leave Alma,my my mother,come on everybody is waiting on you, my sister didn't hear the conversation, Doctors rush in, we had to leave,I got in my car and went for ten minute drive to my old house, neighbors said your Daddy just died.

I’m 2 years late but thank you for sharing. I grew up in a church that spoke tongues but if didn’t know if it was legit. I went to a different church and they said noo it’s false. Then I did my own research a few months ago and found out no it’s legit. I have been praying for the gift of tongues once I learned the truth through the word of God.

Beautiful. I liked your testimony and your sincerity. I believe in speaking in tongues and I wanted this gift since long time. So I am trying to pray in tongues because the Word says “For anyone who speaks in a tongue, does not speak to people but to God” but still I have doubts if I am faking and just forcing myself, and as you mentioned in your testimony, I don’t want it to be fake if I force myself to do it. Why am I doing this? because I have been praying for my son (not with tongues) who was laid off from his job after the COVID, but till today (Jan 13) my prayers were not answered. So God put on my heart to pray in tongues but the problem is that ten minutes and I am bored 😢. I receive your prayer at the end of the testimony and pray that God confirms to me that I am not doing it wrong 🙏🙏

You could stand up there all day long doing this so called speaking in tongues and never get it right. Read your Bible will you? Not one person on this earth today could interpret what you were saying. Not one. Paul said if there is no interpreter, do not do it.
We both know you are wrong. What if the Bible translated it from tongues to language, would you still be making this type of video? I doubt it. If I posted Italian to you, or German, which I speak, would you call that speaking in tongues? I have been to a ton of Pentecostal churches, and First Assemblies, and they have never had an interpreter during the service.

Look at the following verse, 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Notice it says that speaking of tongues shall cease? 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
1 Corinthians 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? Have you ever seen an English-speaking evangelist preaching in a Spanish country? Notice he has a "translator" with him repeating his words from English to Spanish? Or an English-speaking preacher preaching in Germany, how he has another man with him on the stage speaking in German as the preacher speaks in English? Is that speaking in tongues or language? I'm not here to trash you, just pointing out you made a false video.

Praying in tongues is plural. How many unknown language's do you pray at one time ?
I identify with your experience. I am the most logical person in the world. That said, a lot of logical things are being taught, stuff that I would consider IF, my experience had never happened. So my experiences of speaking in tongues is the only legitimate way that I know that my walk as a believer is real. I can say without doubt that what happened and continues to happen is of no actions or desires of my own. Reassurance that scripture is right.

I was not raised in the church, and actually used to make fun of Christians, but that all changed three years ago. God had to really humble me and take everything from me to get me to see the error of my ways and I’m so glad he did.
I received the gift of tongues about 6 months after coming to faith. After about 3 months of believing I started seeing videos of people doing it and I wanted to know if it was real and still active. Well I tried to do it for a few months, but I would always stumble over my own efforts and couldn’t think up syllables fast enough. I would make it like 3-4 seconds and then stop because I knew it was my own effort and not the Holy Spirit. Then one night, I watched a teaching online telling me that you have to just step out in faith and let the Holy Spirit give you the utterance. Within a few minutes, I was speaking in tongues. I went for about 5 minutes and was just amazed because I knew that while the sounds were coming from my mouth, I wasn’t thinking them or choosing them. So amazing!

Beside the instant healing for your ankle how else has God used it in your personal life in worship. I am not denying it I am just curious. How do you experience the Lord differently compared to a prayer for the FILLING of the Holy Spirit?in English? Where does scripture differentiate between the gift of the Holy Spirit and the Filling Of the Holy Spirit? ( Galatians 5:22-23) I am not saying it doesnt I would just like to know Thanks Ashley. Hi! Thank you. I grew up in a very legalistic church that didn't believe in the gifts of the spirit. So, if anyone had cause for doubt it was me! But, I do believe it's a gift for every believer. I'd highly recommend reading "Living Water" by Chuck Smith. It really answered EVERY question I had as I struggled to believe wether rhe gift of tongues was even real.

Your dad spoke in tongues over you ? How many tongues ( language's ) was he praying over you ? Did he interpret ?
Praying in the spirit doesn't require an interpretation. Speaking in a public place like church to a gathering of people is where the interpretation is required. Hope that helps!

It’s like the Bible it’s not enough for them so they need emotions and stuff like that in order to believe in God. Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12,13,14 make the case for tongues(languages) to be for the unbelievers. I pray they come out of that mess.
Why would you need to pray to the Lord in tongues? he understands your heart and language. He is the originator of all languages. We don't even have to pray out loud pray to the Lord in your heart and he will hear you.

Personally, I let the Holy Spirit take control when I can't really think of words to use.
I was also taught that according to 1 Corinthians 14:2
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
And especially 1 Corinthians 14:28
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
That your prayers go directly to God. As in, no interference from demons blocking your prayers. It also seems to fight off demons.
On a physical level though, it's been reported that there are health benefits for people that pray in tongues for a long time. The most extreme example I've seen is a testimony from Reg Morais, who the Lord cured of autism and other mental conditions.

We receive the Holy Spirit when we’re saved. Otherwise if it was receiving tongues as “proof” it means the rest of us aren’t saved. I am saved and I don’t speak in tongues.

Not everyone is going to get the gift and it's really stupid if you believe that. Some people might get it and some people might not get it. But not having that gift doesn't make you a bad Christian and does not mean anything. Also why don't you pray for the gift of interpretation instead? Cos there are tons of people speaking in tongues in Churches and in most Churches there's no one to translate what they say

Why do people want the gift of tongues? Some sort of desire for assurance?
The Bible says to desire the gifts, it's in us to desire them. It builds on our relationship with God. I know for me personally it was a desire to be in closer connection in prayer.

It’s unfortunate that there is so much confusion with this topic. So many different beliefs, and doctrines. For those of you who are seeking God and witnessing such confusion, i’m sure you are wondering why are there so many different beliefs. So, let me explain. Many people have searched scriptures, studied scripture, and preached scriptures without the guidance and grace of God. And because of their lack of love, obedience and humility, God resist them as he only gives grace to the humble. This automatically forces them to lean onto their own understanding and come up with all of these different beliefs and doctrines. God is not the author of confusion and he will teach us the very same things when we genuinely seek him, love as he has commanded and approach him with complete humility. when you do, God will show you clearly that tongues is in fact a gift of the Holy Spirit that God will give you as he will, and when he will. Speaking in tongues is not an entitlement and all Christians do not speak in tongues. This is why in 1Corinthians chapter 14 verse five Paul says, “I wish ( Greek word for would) you all speak with tongues.” If I had all my children standing around me, and I told them that I wish they were all my children, they would think I was crazy and state that “we are all your children” But if I had a group of children around me with some being my children and some of them not. Then I could rightfully say “I wish you were all my children” that would make sense. That’s the very situation in this case. Paul is addressing the body of Christ telling them that he wish they all spoke with tongues because he understood that they all didn’t. But if they all did speak in tongues as so many people claim today then they would wonder why is Paul saying this if they were all Pentecostal pushers as we have today. This is why so many people are being prayed for and not receiving the gift tongues because God is not honoring their misunderstanding. Regardless of how many excuses they come up with or if they teary all night. So she did right by not going up there for prayer because it’s not an entitlement gift as they seem to push. This confuses so many believers and causes them to pretend many times. Whenever you receive the gift of tongues, you should know it’s from God as it is very supernatural and is only granted according to his will and no one else’s. Pray for it and desire it, but desire gifts that will benefit the body and not just yourself. And most importantly, make sure your love is in check and your humility And that you live holy for God. I say this to all the proud, humble yourselves before the Lord and come to him empty-handed. Restudy in complete humility, holiness and love and he will open up the eyes of your understanding! There is so much I would love to say concerning this, but I will end on that. Glory be to God!
I couldn't agree more with this comment! I spoke in tongues for the first time today and i cannot possibly explain how the words were flowing out of my mouth, how my body was reacting to them and the almost out of body feeling i felt at times. It all came from the deepest desire to draw closer to God and i always thought speaking in tongues was a joke and fake. I looked up a very good teaching, gathered all the scriptures, looked them up for myself in the bible and was extremely compelled that this was something for all to seek. I then prayed in faith that God would give give me this gift.. i felt awkward but started to pronounce syllables and the rest is history... please be encouraged and trust God, let go of unforgiveness, cling to the one who Loves you.

Unforgiveness is definitely one of the things that can not only hinder us from receiving God‘s gifts, but even being forgiven by God. Hi Ashley I am Bob the one that sent you the LONG comment about physical illnesses my wife and I deal with now. 2 points First Question Do you attend an Assembly of God or Penticostal church where speaking in tongues is very much spoken about in scripture Unfortunately I attend a Baptist Church (very conservative) where it is NOT for today and I forget the passage they use. I believe 1 Corinthians 14:10I will look it up. If it it is done and imterprited I totally accept and attended a church ( The Chicago Tabernacle ) Of course in Chicago where it models the Brooklyn Tab in New York City They have just an awesome choir . TBH now I am not sure you are the one that wasd talking about Tounges If not very very sorry 2) Since I have a brain injury I talk lot which means also type a lot Sorry Point #2 When my wife and I got married of course our wedding vows were "In Sickness and In Health" You just dont really think about lt just say it. I was a very analytical man just like you as a woman to make sure this was Gods women as my wife We had a great marriage for 15 yrs traveled where involved together musically. Our personalities and our temperments were an awesome match in about every way. Then all these HEALTH ISSUES near fatal and then the words in those vows really come to life when you have 2 people with disabilities . Because ours are both neurological it has had a negative impact on our marriage Thankfully our marriage was strong enough to these challenges we STILL deal with 10 yrs later. My wife has tried every treatment possible and I still have some neurological issues. Romans 8:28 is what we live on All that to say you can have the "perfect for you husband" for you but you never know what challenges God allows to really challenge your commitment and faith. Gifts of the Holy Spirit are often abused by people and I think that false prophets are all around, so many are afraid to even pray for the gift out of fear. I speak in tongues, I have cast out demons, I lay hands on the sick and they have recovered. This is the commandment Jesus gave all of his follows. Mark 16:17-20.
The same Holy Spirit gives all the gifts. Can anyone who has the Holy Spirit speak prophecy? Yes. But that doesn’t make them a prophet. There is a mantle (or assignment) of a prophet that is different and for the whole church. Then their is personal prophecy that can be given. I have received many dreams and visions from God that were just for my family that were prophetic but I am not a prophet. I did have 2 dreams that would be prophetic toward the whole church but that still doesn’t make me a prophet. All the gifts are for today. Go look up David Diga Hernandez and Kathryn Kirk.

Corinthians teaches how Gifts of Holy Spirt are like many body parts, made up of one body, from the same Holy Spirit. Not one part (gift) can say to another I don't need you as all work together.
Question: Why do some teach the Gift of Tounges comes first place before one can manifest in the other Spiritual Gifts? If all gifts are equal, yet Paul says I would rather you Prophecy, why not ask for Gift of Prophecy or Healing instead? Nothing wrong with Gift of tounges for (self edification) however there seems to be this preoccupation in the church to make everyone receive the Gift of Tounges as a first instance? Can we not in the same Faith receive the Gift of Prophecy instead, considering how the Holy *Spirit gives to each one (gifts) as He Determines*.

Hey, great question, I think this was my biggest doubt going into prayer for this gift. I would encourage you to read the book "Living Water " by Chuck Smith. To answer your question, my imagination isn't that good, I wish that it was, but the words that come out of my mouth are not fabricated in my mind, they're not thought about how to say like Normal speaking, they're also extremely powerful and they flow together in perfect harmony and unity. Unfortunately, of myself I'm not capable to beautifully create a new language. It's not from me, it's a gift from God of a new tongue.

Creativity is a selection process that requires intuition, but languages are "muscle memory" for the brain, improvisation is not that difficult, anyone can do this. I can do this too, in fact I used to do that, sounds great of course. But the problem is, the Bible describes tongues as human languages that can be translated. All these manifestations I have heard are not human languages, I literally never heard one phonetic language in any of the churches I have entered. I have heard many sermons about this, mostly Derek Prince, and I get the whole "have faith that you receive a good gift when you ask", but the truth of the matter is: it's not a language. "Tongue" is an English archaism for "language". So I don't know, I am 99% sure this whole modern speaking in tongues is a self-suggested improvisation driven by the desire to be spiritual and to somehow have a supernatural interaction, but these manifestations are never verified with an interpreter, as the Bible says to do. So I cannot conclude this is authentic, according to the standards of the Bible, it does not matter how I feel about it. Also, interpreting is not "listening to whatever thoughts come into your mind when you hear this 'tongue'", it's translating a human language. Such languages are named exactly at Pentecost according to the region of the listeners, it was not a random unintelligible babbling...

@@foggy71there are about 7000 languages in the world currently. How do you know you’ve “literally never heard one phonetic language in any of the churches” unless you’ve heard & can recognize all 7000 languages?
@@jtika1978 Because your brain can abstract language features. And there are no features in this "tongue speaking" that I have heard. Anyway, it is an easy test, record it and give it to a language AI, or to a community of international people. They will say if that is a human language or not.
