  • This one is special - literally my dream bike. The one and only, the infamous Ducati Streetfighter 848. Always wanted one - so when my buddy Mike gave me the opportunity to give it a spin I had to jump on it. What a machine, from the very first pull and first noise heard I was even more in love than before. I got the chance to ride it for a few days so this is the first of a handfull of vlogs that I recorded on the SF. I loved it. I will 100% own one, not sure if as my next bike or just in the future, but it will be mine. 2012 in white with black frame. As always thank you all for watching and commenting, I hope the new year celebrations was fun - and if you read this far tell me what YOUR dream bike is and have you ever got a chance to ride one?
    Do YOU live in NYC and have a neat bike that I can ride for one of these Riding Bikes vids? Let me know.

      @@ducatinyc 1st tops out at 65 mph and 2nd at 98 mph. Full throttle in 2nd the speedometer will jump from 72 mph to 98 mph. You never see 80's. It's freaking fast. The sound the bike makes at full throttle gathers a lot of attention and with the quick shifter sounds like it's ushering in the day of the Lord! No ABS and it does have Ducati's traction control. The SF definitely sits higher than a monster and you are correct, it pitches the rider forward which puts more weight on the wrists. I have become accustomed to this with mine. Because it is a taller bike with more surface area on the sides I find mine catches cross winds more than my Monster did. Mine has been nothing but reliable though I did remove the evaporative emissions canister, and as far as ascetics in my opinion this generation of SF is Ducati's most appealing design, ever. I know 916-996 guys would have me hung for saying that, but they would have to catch me and the SF has more ponies and torque. The Testastretta makes this bike look like an engine with wheels and it easily attracts gawkers.

    Cool to see someone on the other side of the ocean enjoying the same Italian Stallion as I have! I mean really the same bike ... SF 848, black with termignoni. I live in the Netherlands, but I'm stuck in Rome, Italy for the moment, so the last time I took it for a spin was last Summer, and I really miss it.
    If you have the chance, try it next time on the highway, because honestly, you've only experienced a glimpse of its character. The nice thing about the SF 848 is that it has a lot of power in the basement (not sure if this is English but I think you understand what I mean) so it runs smoothly around town but you can easily give it 4000 RPM extra per gear.
    Thanks for the upload and have fun!

      @davidthompson2428 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ducatinyc For the type of riding you are doing, the 821 seems like a much better fit. It's likely why you've bonded so well with your current bike. For one, you even briefly mentioned the riding position of the SF. The 821 will be much more comfortable over long periods of time. Also, the power band of the 821 is much more linear and enjoyable for the lane splitting and other types of riding you do. 3rd, every bike you review you always compare back to the 821. You already know in your heart that is the right bike. I've learned the hard lesson after many years of riding that buying the fastest, latest bike isn't where it's at. Buying what stirs your soul is what matters. Trust me, I love speed. But for street riding an 821 has enough in spades.

    I recently looked at specs, the Ducati Street Fighter 1098 weighs as much as this 848 but has 155 horsepower and 120 nm torque instead of 848s 130 hps and 95 nm torque, the 1098 seems to be crazy fast, and no ABS lol , I would not want to ride that bike without ABS in today's traffic :D
    So there is no ABS and even though you can get these bikes very cheap nowadays, the service costs on them, like the valve adjustment service (the big service) is a lot more money than any other bike brand so keep that it mind, Ducati's Desmoservices are no joke, you need to be prepared for those, more than double the price of a big japanese valve service at least in Sweden where I am at.
    Otherwise I would love to buy a Streetfighter 1098 I see them used with low milage for around 9000$ here.

    • @ducatinyc
      @ducatinyc  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hehe I mean, I been riding Ducatis for about 13 years now - I know all about Desmo services (worth every penny) - same here in the USA, its easily double the price. 1098 is one BRUTAL bike, 848 is more my speed. I rode with no ABS in NYC traffic for over a decade so its doable.

    • @mathias6423
      @mathias6423 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ducatinyc Yeah wow you know exactly what I am talking about then. Yeah I am 38 years old so I also grew up with no abs or slip clutch.
      But I am very accustomed to ABS and safety features like that now so I would worry if I had to panic brake now after I have ridden ABS bikes for the last 12 years that I would lock it up and have a bad day :P
      Ducati has really come a long way since after the 2010 with their reliability. So now the only thing that stands between me and owning a Duc is the expensive services. My next bike will be a Kawasaki Z1000 though,
      I love the look of that bike and they are also cheap and decently fast =)
      In my opinion the Z1000 -14 and newer and also the Streetfighter 848 are still to this day the best looking naked / streetfighter bikes =)

      @ducatinyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know to be honest. I always always loved and wanted a Streetfighter, the design speaks to me - and after riding it it all clicked, the bike is epic - as good as I dreamt it would be. Better. I love the Monsters, always, the SF mixed up the plans a bit. I still need to test the new new trellisless Monster as well - who knows, maybe I go new new and flip the game up.

    how's the leg ergonomics compared to the Monster 620? Any chance there's a bit more leg room around the tank in the little cutouts, etc?

    • @ducatinyc
      @ducatinyc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's surprisingly very similar - I did not feel out place at all. Felt just like home. You are a bit more upright and I can see how feet are a bit more tucked up - but sadly I didnt ride for long enough to really feel any of it. I would say there is NOT more leg room, its a more agressive setup.

    • @overkillisunderrated5027
      @overkillisunderrated5027 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ducatinyc Thanks for the response.
      yeah, that's my worry - the streetfighters seem awesome in just about every way, but if the ergo's are even "worse" for taller riders than the Monster it's a tough sell for me. after mine was totalled I've been on an MT09 which is more upright than the Monster and my knees can fit in a lot more comfortably around the tank (36 inch inseam).
      I sat on a Panigale (a 959 i think...) and it was really aggressive, but the new-ish (like 2018+) SuperSport is *very* comfortable to sit on and has that extra knee-room as well.
