  • Whenever you reach the end of a Pokémon game to face down the Elite Four, you can either end up underwhelmed or blown away! But these variable outcomes beg the question, which members of this "Elite" club are actually considered the worst when compared to their peers? So let's dissect which Pokémon League members are considered the worst at each rank, from the first one all the way up to Champion of the region!

      Absolutely, cause I’ve genuinely loved every generation of Pokémon. There was always something in the games that I would find myself enjoying and having loads of fun with… until gen 9. I can’t even explain why, but it’s just so bad, I can’t get into it no matter what I do or how I try to change my perceptions of it. Sadly, overall, the worst generation.

      Keep in mind that Paldea has multiple Champions, and all of them have to defeat Geeta to become Champion. Which wouldn't be a problem except that she claims that _it's impossible for her to hold back._ Which means she's doing her best and every Champion in Paldea has defeated her at her best. She's not Top Champion. She's Bottom Champion.

Players like Iono, Larry and Rhyme do in face have strength on them but when you get to the Elite 4 it’s more of a “ Final Exam “ if you will. Rikka gives you your interview and proceeds to test us on our strength. Geeta is also testing us. It’s also an excuse to give someone a Glimmora as an Ace to show how strange she is. After all she wields a Pokemon that can be found by the hundreds in Area Zero. A special place we’re not allowed to go to. Obviously in Blueberry Acadamy she doesn’t hold back finally having her ace be her starter and ending it all with Kingambit

    The worst champions, in my opinion, are Diantha and Geeta. Diantha was too easy of a champion boss fight, and Geeta was the same. I don't remember playing Black and White that much, so I don't recall Alder. The only reason Lance was hard in the first-gen games was the lack of Pokémon and move pool diversity. Fire types are one of my favorite types, and when I was a kid, I was disappointed that Gen 4 had almost no fire-type Pokémon. If you don't count the starter line, the Ponyta line sucked anyway.

      While N is functionally similar to Kukui and Hau, where they’re the final battle of the main story, and I do think he should’ve been mentioned even if he wasn’t up for discussion for this topic like most other champions, much like Kukui and Hau he’s not the champion. He turns down the position immediately, defeating Alder purely to prove a point and to have the champion out of commission for Team Plasma’s siege of the league. The records function of the PC even makes the distinction, beating N registers your team under “first game cleared” while beating Alder is under “Pokémon league victory”.

  • @vincentsissom4180
    @vincentsissom4180 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Personally, if Geeta didn't wait till the DLC to do this, it would have been much better. Like, if she pulled out an improvement in the Academy Star Tournament, doing the swap around, it would have been better both as a lore reason for her quote "I am unable to hold back." Reason I say this, the only other Champion Ranked Trainer you meet is Nemona, who is looking for a rival. And Geeta would have wanted Nemona to have someone who was able to face off against her as an equal. But, until you came around, nobody else could have beaten her team, so when you showed up, she likely was likely at the point where she had tried to hold back just to have Nemona have someone on sort of equal footing. Than, once you save the region in the base game, she could have been like "Ok, he is definitely ready for a full out battle." And just put Glimora out first and save Kingambit for last. Wouldn't have even to do the Flying Terra Type even back than. Just switching up the order would have been a massive improvement.

    Tbf to the “losers from the indigo disk”, they probably have some of the better E4 teams in recent games. They have competitive abilities, use items like focus sashes, have high leveled Pokemon and use good move pools. Some even using actual strategies. Eg Amarys having a slow team due to being steel type so has Reuniclus who knows trick room or having am empoleon who counters her fire weakness, something Crispin also does by having a grass type to counter his fire types ground or rock weakness.

    Geeta's team is bad, but it doesn't bother me as much because the Nemona battle right after definitely comes across as SV's 'real' champion battle. Her smugness is definitely out of place though, given that she's not a difficult fight. I do also have to give her some pity points because her team representing the parts of Paldea is a really nice touch imo (especially since that explains Glimmora being her ace even if it was a poor gameplay decision)
    As a character though, I think my least favorite is Kahili just because even though never meeting E4 members before the match was the norm in past games, they moved away from that in SM, except with her for whatever reason. I remember walking in after fighting everyone else and just kind of thinking 'who tf is she lol'

      I think Geeta works well in concept as a state-mandated Champion whose job is to be a final obstacle without being too hard for challengers. Her smugness works well as an intimidation and to make those who beat her feel even better about their victory. The problem is that the concept doesn't translate well into gameplay and the only saving grace is Nemona being the true Champion fight

    • @MagillanicaLouM
      @MagillanicaLouM 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      They do hint at Kahili a few times iirc. I know that giant hotel in Alola is owned by her dad and I'm pretty sure Kukui mentions her once or twice when reminiscing on his trial days. Will have to look into that again.
      But yeah i like Geeta. She's cool enough as a character, and I don't care as much about team composition for NPCs, as long as the champion isn't throwing a togepi or something at me, im not invested enough to rage over it (besides most media really only acknowledges their aces as important). Like I get wishing she was improved, and apparently she was in dlc. But i think the fervor around her team reached an odd level. Probably because SV are deservedly controversial to begin with.

    You know... maybe its just because its been so long with the games... but ive kinda got this idea in my head about why Geeta's first battle was so bad...
    The whole thing with pokemon scarlet and violet is it being a school and in a way Geeta is the final test... however that test needs to be able to be PASSED by students... so she's forced to hold back. She uses some good pokemon to show them off and perhaps even do exactly what we have done and recognize the strategies that could be done better. But the battle is easier so that there can actually be students that pass and reach champion rank in less than 1 in 8192 students.
    Plus gameplay wise, Nemona is RIGHT after her so she's basics considered more the "final champion" than geeta during the main story. (Plus the true final boss after that)
    But by the time of the DLC you've trained so much she doesn’t need to hold back anymore so thats why her team seems so much more improved.

    • @emperorcubone
      @emperorcubone  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A rigged test is not a worthwhile one; if the school passes thru everybody then their accreditation is worthless and completing the course means nothing when they just hand it to you. But I see what you mean about Nemona...

    • @edgargaebolg9307
      @edgargaebolg9307 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Paldea's League is officially the first League managed by the regional government. As it's a public service, it needs to be accessible to everyone, and even then not every Trainer will reach Geeta so the number of winners is small. I mean, Nemona is the only Champion among all the Trainers we meet. Unfortunately this kind of concept doesn't translate well into gameplay

    • @kolbymiller3440
      @kolbymiller3440 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@emperorcubone yeah that is true this was more my headcanon.
      I meant less of a "rigged test" and more "if Geeta actually went all out very very few trainers would actually be able to reach champion rank and thus eventually the entire league becomes basically pointless as... well all I can say is her team in the DLC actually kinda scares me and if I DIDN'T have the training from 3 contents worth of pokemon plus my knowledge of Pokémon already I feel like it'd become a struggle to actually beat her with a playthrough team up to that point.
      Though really my points about nemona and the true final bosses are more accurate to why I think it is the way it is... I was just trying to give some kind of in-universe reason for why Geeta seems to use her team backwards despite being champion
      Edit: also I forgot to mention that you're right about the whole "What's the point if this is just handed to you" but I would like to point out the entirety of the game and the students "final test" of sorts... is a SUPER vague "find your own personal treasure" thing which literally is so hands off and can't be really graded except by going case by case and vibes. As a now college graduate with an education degree... this school is already so hands off that it sounds like they would practically be giving away passing grades anyway because how do you define what someone's "personal treasure" is as a teacher?

    I’m also glad you pointed out Geeta having Kalos Pokémon. I have a theory that Geeta’s team could’ve been a hint at Pokémon Legends A-Z. Considering how she insisted on having Gogoat and Avalugg when it seems like she could’ve had a full team of Paldea Pokémon. However, he doesn't use the Koffing line anymore from gen 2 onwards. However, Janine uses a Weezing on her team, which probably has been a gift from Koga.
    Ideally, they should not have given Koga a Forretress and swap out Magnemite from Jasmine in favor of Forretress. They should have given Koga an Umbreon imo ''When agitated, this Pokémon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores.'
    Yeah... Flint i agree with (You can swpee Flint with Hippowdon alone). Your argument that they could have used other typings for Flint as well, is a good one, however, it doesn't include Dragon (Since the only Dragon type introduced in gen 4 that isn't a legendary is Garchomp, which was already Cynthia's ace to begin with as well). Dark wasn't really an option either, considering we only had 5 Sinnoh Dark types as well (One of which was already the ace of Aaron). I feel like Normal was the best option then... as we have Staraptor, Bibarel, Lopunny (Which he already owns anyways), Ambipom and Lickilicky (With Porygon-Z getting added in Platinum). What is extra annoying as well, is that Flint changed his ace from Infernape (In Diamond and Pearl) to Magmortar (In Platinum).
    Ngl, Hau improved massively in-between Sun and Moon and the Ultra Games, in terms of teams. They replaced Komala with Tauros (We all know how much a of menace Tauros can be if you haven't prepared for it and Hau's specifically not only had Intimidate, but also packs Zen Headbutt for that fighting type coverage) and they also added a sixth Pokemon for him with Noivern.
    The one thing i hate about Elite 4 members/champion, is if they share a mon with a Gym Leader (Like, its kinda excusable in gen 1 and 2, but later its not really anymore).

      The only problem with Koga having Umbreon is that would leave Karen with even fewer Dark types...

    I think you should have also included the Blueberry League + Kieran because they’re called the Elite Four and Champion, but I don’t think any of them would be considered the worst

      Yeah, honestly I doubt they'd show up on either list or best or worst, so their inclusion is really a non-factor either way...
