    There are loads of teachers on TH-cam. Loads show what they do. A few show how they do it. But fewer still show the "why". That's the hardest part to teach. You are killing it.

    I usually put a very short reverb on my drumbus to get the feeling of an acoustic drum break play in a room. And sometimes I boost / cut some frequencies for all the drums for the same reason

    Tip what I've liked to do sometimes: layer the same sample with itself using different processing. For example using some parralel distortion or compression and dialing that in with the original sound can really bring out punch or depth

    1. a disjointed or genre-violating kit is totally fine, provided it’s serving a purpose and is intentional - that’s how new (sub)genres are born. but this is good advice for people trying to recreate the established boom bap sound
    2. a good way to get free cohesion is to apply all of your drums to the same processing (eg same plate reverb, same saturator/tape, same compressor, etc)

    Good vid. Only the other day did I laye drums for the first time ever and my god what a difference. I have decent drum kits but I got sick of using the same few sounds again and again. Layering creates a whole new sound. I reccomend tinkering with the levels to get the sound you want. So for snares, raise and lower between the two to see what fits your beat. Pitching is another thing I always do and adding slight reverb. Deff reccomend adding a sub kick beneath your primary kick. The final tip i would give to anybody which too many wanna be producers seem to fail to do is make sure your drums are fucking banging. You don't wanna go too nuts obviously coz you'll get ear ache, but having a loud punchy kick and snare that cracks over the top (with the right pattern) can often make even the most bang average "album filler" track that much better and head bobbing

    Hey Navie,
    One quick question.
    You said in the beginning you want more full hi hat. Hi hats aren't meant to be more in high ends? Also doesn't it cover the other instruments?

    • @artisans8521
      @artisans8521 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a great many high hats drummers use, depending on the alloy used, the shape etc. A drumkit is a musical instrument, it has a tone as well. Drummers spend a lot of time and money on their sound. So some hats have more bottom end, some more high end. Navy D points out something verry important, the samples used should sound like the came of the same drumkit. But not the actual drumkit (like drummers use to crowd public transport with) but the recorded drumkit. If you build a drumkit it should sound like a cohesive recording sounds.
