The emperor sent House Atreides to Arrakis to die, so it's only fitting that their arrival should be announced with the sound of bagpipes. It's essentially an epic funeral procession.
Can't wait for you to see Dune part 2. Also, I love when you ask a question, the movie answers you right away most of the time. You would be a great test audience.
the book about the death of Jamis is more detailled : an important step for Paul in his evolution as a leader, the movie does not explore much further this.
Great to watch the reaction of the reader of Dune books. The original saga is 6 books written by Frank Herbert from 1965 to 1985? The two movies is the first book. Remains 16 books written by his son Brian Herbert (with Kevin J. Anderson) from 2003 to 2024, they are prequels, explaining more the events leading to the Dune original saga, some novels between these books, and 2 books finishing the Dune saga following notes from his father (hunters of Dune, and sandworms of Dune). A TV serie is due in november ''Dune: the prophecy'' showing the origin of the Bene Gesserit order, based on the book of Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson, 2012, '' Sisterhood of Dune''.
The TV miniserie of 2000 ''Dune'' 4h30 is much closer to the story of the first books (these movies), but also the TV miniserie 2003, 4h30, ''Children of Dune'' regrouping the book 2 ''Messiah of Dune'' and the book 3 ''Children of Dune'', this last miniserie is the best.
Villenueve’s Dune Part One tells Paul’s “heroes journey” following Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth of 1. Call to Adventure - Paul’s dreams of Chani, 2. Rejecting the Call - Refusing to become heir to Duke Leto Atreides, 3. Supernatural Aid - Bene Jeserit test, 4. First Threshold - Arriving to Arrakis, 5. Belly of the Whale - Learning the ways of the Freman. The important thing about Villenueve’s Dune Part Two and the rest of Frank Herbert’s first Dune book is that it cuts Paul’s heroes journey short, so he appears as a hero but truthfully he has gone astray from his real purpose. The second book and third film, Dune Messiah, is about Paul accomplishing his real purpose.
The first 3 books are quite linked, maybe Villeneuve will do book 2 and book 3 together in the next movie, as the TV miniserie 2003 ''Children of Dune'' did. The books 4, 5 and 6 are quite far in the future from the first 3 books : 3500 years and 5000 years after Dune 1,2,3.
9:30, the Dune books predate Star Trek and Star Wars. It is probably one of the most influential science fiction works of the list 60 years. George Lucas freely admits that Dune was one of the sources of inspiration for Star Wars.
No ! Salusa secondus is not a military planet, that 's the jail of the emperor, using it to train Sardaukar soldiers because of very harsh conditions on the planet.
Shadout Mapes failed to blood the Crysknife before sheathing it. Totally invalidates the movie...🙃 "This is a stupid ambush...they don't even have a fighting chance...." Er, that's the point. The military definition of an ambush is "premeditated murder." I think the second movie does a better job of clarifying the stakes in the second half than Herbert did himself.

Bagpipes are also a classic battlefield instrument.

I am really looking forward to you seeing part 2.
Also, movie I’d like to recommend is Primer. It’s from 2004. It’s really excellent sci-fi.
Funny quotes with no context #1 @29:05 "I wanted to see her get on the wormmmm!"😆

I think Messiah is a good ending point, a solid Paul trilogy
DV's Dune made me re-read the books again - I had to read Dune Messiah before he makes Dune 3.
When is part 2 ?!
