I don't even know if you need to say arguably. It's verifiable that a significant number of major Sci-fi authors and filmmakers have named Dune and an influence for their work, just as many did for Lord of the Rings with fantasy.
43:34 One of the most interesting things about Paul is that he is not in any way an every man like many main characters his age in sci-fi. He's not Luke Skywalker, a farm boy who had to get training from multiple wise masters and even then loses in his first real fight. Paul has been trained by the best warriors, the best statesman, the best tacticians, the best strategists, and by his mother who is part of a secret order of women who can control the very chemical processes of their body, since he was old enough to walk. Paul in many ways is a pinnacle of brains and brawn mixed with 10,000 years of eugenics to create someone with power beyond our understanding.
I’m so happy you said that Pauls visions are changing 😊 Most reviewers only say he can see the future. Even the Reverend Mother asked “Do you often see things that happen?” And he said “Not exactly.” He is doubting himself, but the Benegeserrit spread these myths before they arrived. Even Chani said he doesn’t believe the prophecy. I really enjoyed your review 😊 Waiting for Part Two.
Isn't it more that the visions aren't to be taken to the letter, for instance the Jamis vision was true but not in the way in the way it first appeared.
@@znk0rno, that’s not how his powers work. He’s seeing many different possible futures, and he uses the information gleaned from those to set in motion a certain future. He can’t see things always exactly as they will happen, but there’s no metaphors or anything like that involved.

Might be the best reaction I've seen from anyone not familiar with the books. You grasped everything so easily! Very pleasant to watch someone with both media literacy and emotional intelligence!
@@LauraGS564 it is. That's confirmed since the very first moment they get to the planet, it's talked about multiple times and it's one of the biggest plot points in the saga. The prophecy was fabricated through the centuries to control people, that's why it's huge that Paul ends up taking the title of their messiahs, bc he's aware that he isn't it, that it doesn't even exist, but he takes advantage of it to make people follow him and through that gaining the control he needs to do what he wants to do. That's also why Chani asks him to not take power under the title of the messiahs, bc she notices it is fake and simply a way to slave them, meaning that if someone takes that title and leads her people through it, they're taking advantage from them for goals that aren't theirs, making them live and die for someone they don't need to and just want to bc of lies. Paul is not a bad guy (he doesn't want to slave people, he takes the title bc he needs to, and after resisting the necessity for a long time bc of knowing the pain he'll cause), but he's also not a saint (he does horrible things regardless), this is why he's very well known as an anti-hero, not a hero. You can dislike that or not notice it so want to deny it, but this is still confirmed (movies, books, the author), so it's a fact, not an opinion.
4:49 putting this line in the trailer was so smart. I got interested in this movie entirely because of wholesome Oscar Isaac (and having 2049’s director).
@JohnDoe-oh8jd they weren't trying to spell it correctly. they were trying to type it in a way they could read phonetically. So absolutely pointless attempt at trying to correct them.
42:53, Jason Momoa's son Nakoa-Wolf takes fight training in kali. Mamoa says the knife salute that Paul and Duncan do before going into battle is something that he has seen his son do. So Mamoa put it into the movie as a shoutout to his son.
43:35 The Atreides are especially well-respected warriors and hand-to-hand combatants, and Paul, as the Duke's son, received top-notch training and instruction, both from Gurney, an exceptionally skilled swordsman himself, and from Duncan, a Swordmaster (one of the most skilled combatants in the setting). So, yeah, Paul is a good fighter. Like, REALLY good. Probably one of the best in the setting. Also, 36:20, The Baron was able to survive the poison because his levitation harness floated him above the gas cloud.
Also, the Baron turned on his shield before the Duke released the poison gas. His shield slowed down the gas entering his personal space, so he didn’t get a full hit of it. The unshielded Harkonnen were not so lucky.
on top of that he was also trained by his mother in the fighting methods of the Bene Gesserit who are actually the greatest warriors in the known universe. he is particularly good n the prana bindu nerve control techniques of the BG, stated to be better than his mother by his own mother(these techniques make them literal super human, they can control ever muscle fiber in their body, so that when they hit they hit with super human strength, or move so fast they look like they are teleporting)
Paul is trained by his bene Geserit mother to master some abilities. But he has other teachers. He's trained to be a mentat, a human computer because there is no AI. It's forbidden since the buttlerian jihad 10000 years early. When he's seeing Jamis as friend, it's one of many possibilities.
The book was amazing. Im currently halfway through Messiah but the first book covers the first and second movie of Denis Villenueve’s adaptation. He truly gave this book the best adaptation to film.
Came here for the Dune reaction, subscribed for those two amazing reactors, cant wait to see you girls react to Dune part 2, that movie is on another level of cinematic experience. The baron activated his shield before leaning toward the duke which block most of the poison and the Emperor help the Arkonnen destroy the Atreides because de Duke was getting more popular among the other Great Houses and he felt his position was being threatened by that. Overall you catch almost everything. Great reaction!
For context, the Harkonnens and the Atriedes have a deadly inter-family feud that spans generations. They have been fighting with each other for hundreds of years, but the Atriedes taking over Arrakis from the Harkonnens was the casus belli for open warfare between the two houses. The fact that the takeover of Dune was commanded by the Emperor even while the Emperor was secretly giving military aid to the Harkonnens to tip the scales in the Baron's favor heavily implies that the order for the Atriedes to take over Dune was a ruse. As Baron Vladimir Harkonnen said: "When is a gift not a gift?"

They didn't do a good job explaining but the Emperor didn't think he had a choice and actually liked Duke Leto. He had no sons but their was a male heir in both the Atreides and Harkonnen. Who were the next most powerful houses. If he had married a daughter to Paul the Harkonnen's would have rebelled and started a galactic war. If he married his daughter to the Harkonnen the Harkonnens would be ruthless and that would start a revolution. Either way there was going to be a galactic scale war. He thought ambushing and eliminating the Atreides and marrying a daughter to Harkonnen heir was the only path to avoid an all out war.
36:26 Among the Dune lore, there is a saying among the Bene Gesserit: don't count anyone dead until you see the body, and even then, you can be mistaken. Sister Meesh of the Bene Gesserit.
Ok! Thought you guys had reacted to this before! But.... now I'm here so.... "Benedict-gism" alone is worth a rewatch 🤣🤣. Can't wait for Part II! It will ROCK your worlds! This film is epic... but part II is EPIC.
In the books, Paul describes his visions as looking out over the desert. You can see the tops of the dunes (moments in time) but you cannot see what is between you and the dune and what paths you need to take until you get closer. You want to talk about world building, Frank Herbert didn't just world build he built an entire known universe. The politics and plots within plots in the Dune books make Game Of Thrones look like a high school squabble. I've read the first 5 books multiple times and I pick up something new each time I read them.
Tell me you've only watched Game of Thrones and didn't read the books without telling me. I love Dune but come on, the world of Ice and Fire is as deep and complex as Dune. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but keep it in the real world yeah?
@@earth2saka exactly. also ASOIAF biggest inspiration is Dune! Finishing the first Dune book and it's even less complex than Game of Thrones (the first ASOIAF book)
One thing I miss in these movies is the visions are pretty basic; would've gone _way harder_ on the parabolic imagery and abstraction. Low-key Dune: Prophecy does a better job with its vision sequences
I also went blind into this back when it came into the cinema the first time. I highly highly recommend since you watched it one time now, to watch it at least once more to get a full grip of the story and just pure beauty of this movie. When I watched Dune the first time I was totally overwhelmed :D
I love how u guys read about the featured heroes after each cinematic. It’s a great add on to the reaction! And yes please watch the necrit videos! I know you’ve prolly seen still here a long time ago and just not posting it but necrit does a great lore video on it!
"How do they get produce"? Best reactor line to Dune. Btw, your video description says this movie is based on the 1984 movie. It is based on the books, not the previous movie.
Appreciate your guys reaction to this. Very open to new and interesting things, curious and respectful! I enjoyed this a lot and can’t wait for Part 2 🙌🏾 ⚡️ PS The fighting style is a Filipino knife style of fighting, Kali
The harkonnens are following the emperor's orders which means that when he asked them to leave it was an order to put House of tradies and area that they did not know and would be easily executed given the right amount of forces. Which is why he sends his own army with the harkonnens the sadekar were all in white they're considered the baddest soldiers in the universe so giving a thousand of them to the baron was equivalent of him saying destroy House of Trades because they become too powerful another houses are beginning to sway in their side
Wow, You're both are so smart or at least perceptive, I watch a lot of reaction videos and specially Dune videos and yours by far has most intelligent points.
Coming back to ask again that you watch Dune 2 while the characters are fresh on your mind. The first one just lays out the chessboard that the second movie plays upon. I have watched every reactor so far and I love your insights and comments.
That was a great reaction. Can't wait for you to get into DUNE PART TWO. And yes, there is MUCH more Zendaya in that one. ;) And you still have so much mythology (and new characters) to dig into that I think you will like. Definitely picked the right time to watch the series. Enjoy.
The intent behind getting the Harkonnens and Atreides to fight each other is to weaken both parties, but to stop the Atreides ascension and give the Harkonnens back what they want most, financial power. It allows him to strengthen his position (the Emperor's)while letting his rivals fight each other. Paul is a wildcard, The Harkonnens know this and don't care.
The cool thing about the dreams are that they are very metaphorical. Chani is the one who leads him to his destiny so he sees her walking ahead and showing him the desert. To kill someone is to kill yourself so when she gives him the knife to kill jamis, she is also killing him. Jamis is teaching him the ways of the desert, which are harsh and cruel, and his first lesson is that there can be no mercy, only death. In killing jamis, paul dies but that can also be represented as jamis killing Paul.
Just discovered your channel and loving the reactions! Definitely look forward to ya'll watching Dune Pt 2! Also, not sure if you've already seen it, but I think both of you would love watching Everything Everywhere All At Once and it would make for a great reaction on the channel!
It's crazy seeing the difference in how teams spend money when making a film. Compare this to the new borderlands movie that just came out which cost over $110 million, the gap in quality of the final products is astronomical.
I would argue and people will agree, that the Dune series modernized Sci-fi. You look at sci-fi movies during the 60s, and then look at sci-fi movies in the 70s.
Definitely watch Part 2 before you watch the old Dune film as that film covers events that happen in Part 2, and that way you won’t be spoiled. Personally, I think the old movie is atrocious. I remember falling in love with the books when I was pretty young, and when I finally watched the movie I was kind of like, “what in the ever loving fuck is this?!”. I think a lot of people like it for nostalgia, but to each their own. Also, the Baron says the emperor is a “jealous man”. The Atreides had been rising in popularity amongst the noble houses and the emperor sent them to Arakkis as a trap to wipe them out with the help of the Harkonens. These two movies are amazing. The second one is even better.
10191 ag after guild in the Dune Time line 38000 years. After Guild AG was actually like 6000 years after current time. My dates maybe off a bit. But 10191 is actually 16000 to 18000 years in the future.
Great decision watching this, one of the most epic movies what can follow in the footsteps of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Altough if it is not a long strech, you could watch the original Dune from 1984, you will see a familiar face playing Paul :) Actually Star Wars took inspiration from the book of Frank Herbert, but Herbert's book made into a movie much later, since the first Star Wars was released in '77 while Dune in '84. The Dune movie was much more close to being an art film and true to the book than a scripted movie, plus the hype of the original Star Wars trilogy (A New Hope '77, The Empire Strikes Back '80 and the Return of the Jedi '83) overshadowed Dune ('84) and it could not reach a breaking point to be known as widely. I think it was a good decision by Herbert's heritage to reshoot this movie when Star Wars was fading in the Disney era and people started to miss the good old space fantasy.
Frank Herbert started writing this in 1960,it was published in 1965 I first read it in1972. Way before. drones, Wi-Fi and way before anyone in the world realized how important the Middle East and it's oil was. There is the climate of Dune, 140 degrees average day. Now we live on a warming planet. Will our great grand children have to wear water saving suits too?
Dune has some insanely good story plots. The human race was barely wiped from existance when AI went to far, the humans won against the computers so that's why there are no computers in their day and age. They have mentats, people like the charachter of Tufir Hawat trained to calculate extremely fast. Interstellar travel without computer is only achievable by enhancing mentats capacity with the use of spice to calculate navigation in space. Paul has both the potential to be a mentat, and the ways of the voice taught in secret by his bene geserit mother, making him extremely powerful. The bene geserit have a grand design, by way of mariage and genetics to breed leaders who can ignore their animal nature and think with rationality. Not to spoil but Paul wasn't supposed to be this leader in their plan, they weren't finished mixing the families and genetic aptitudes yet. Also, this idea of missionaries who brought religious ideals and profecies to a colonized place to help their plans later in the futur is awesome. It's so evoking of the real world. The Bene Geserit planted the idea of a messiah in the culture of Arakis so that it would be easier to take control of it's people when the time was right to place someone fullfilling that self proclaimed profecy.
The Trilogy would be: *_DUNE_* *_DUNE: Messiah_* *_Childern of DUNE_* The first book (DUNE) was just broken up into 2 parts. *_DUNE: Part 2_* is not n actual sequel. It is just the cinematic continuation of the first book. It triggers me so much that they didn't find another way to classify the second half of the first book.
The relatively book-faithful (but cash-poor) 2000 miniseries is much more important to fandom than the extremely compromised 1984 film. Watch the former after seeing Part 2 of this. Even if you don't react to it, just watch it for yourselves.
The original Dune book predates not only Star Wars but Star Trek as well. These movies from Denis Villenueve are based upon the Dune books and should NOT be considered a remake of the 1984 movie. The 1984 version by David Lynch is trippy and a hack job of the books. In 2000, the Syfy channel did a couple of tv miniseries based upon the first three Dune books. They were closer to the books than the 1984 movie. But they were plagued by low budget and costumes that were just bizarre. This movie is the first half of the first Dune book. The second movie that came out this year is the second half of that book. Final points, this story takes place over 20,000 years into our future. In that time Earth has been destroyed in a war against artificial intelligence. Because of the war, humanity has disavowed the use of highly advanced computers. So over the 10,000 or more years since that war, various human sects have been evolved and bred to superhuman levels of strength, stamina and mental abilities. That is why several people in this movie have abilities that are beyond the norm. Despite the Bene Gesserit (BG) being called witches, there is no such thing as magic. The BG are just women with highly advanced abilities. Paul is a male Bene Gesserit aka the Kwisatz Haderach.
its more than 20,000 years into the future. as the year zero-1 AG was in the year 13,000 AD/CE this is taking place in the year 10,191 AG 10,191 plus 13,000 is 23,191 so you are off by 3000 years

Great intelligent reaction. RM Gaius HM cued you to the emperor's helping the Harkonnens.
I enjoyed this a lot and can’t wait for Part 2 🙌🏾 ⚡️
PS The fighting style is a Filipino knife style of fighting, Kali
“How they get, like, produce?” made me snort like a pig. Instant subscribe.
Star Wars did take inspiration from the Dune books. Then everything else took inspiration from how Star Wars was made.
Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter etc all inspired by the Lord of the Rings or Dune
Wow, You're both are so smart or at least perceptive, I watch a lot of reaction videos and specially Dune videos and yours by far has most intelligent points.
Yeah, Paul sees multiple possible futures. Great reaction. Hope you guys react to Part 2 soon.
I've watched you watch this. AND I'LL DO IT AGAIN 😂
🤣🤣🙏🏼💖
Watching and re-upvoting to support the channel. 👍
We appreciate you!! 🥹🫶🏼
DUNE 2 BABY LETS GOOOO!!!!
LFGGG 😜

Meesh & Dee Truly Such A Awesome Video Today!!🔥🐐🐐💎
9:29 Bene Gesserit can. It should’ve been explained
Can’t wait to see your reaction to part 2
Just dropped 😉
dont waste time its a garbage lokks like a snyder movie
@@juniorgamersfire1184 Nah. Trolling like this is so 2015. And it's sad that you can't spell "looks."
In the books, 3 worms stood up almost bowed and then drawn away.
Coming back to ask again that you watch Dune 2 while the characters are fresh on your mind. The first one just lays out the chessboard that the second movie plays upon. I have watched every reactor so far and I love your insights and comments.
Dune part 2 coming soon 😉
Paul was taught but he was born with those powers
Please watch Dune Part 2!! ❤❤
You both look stunning every single video, I can't even.
😘😘😘
That was a great reaction. Can't wait for you to get into DUNE PART TWO. And yes, there is MUCH more Zendaya in that one. ;) And you still have so much mythology (and new characters) to dig into that I think you will like. Definitely picked the right time to watch the series. Enjoy.
Let’s go,Good reaction As Written.
Please watch Dune: Part 2!
Dee looking hella good
The cool thing about the dreams are that they are very metaphorical.
Awsome reaction!
Please don't make us wait a month for part 2!!
Just discovered your channel and loving the reactions! Definitely look forward to ya'll watching Dune Pt 2! Also, not sure if you've already seen it, but I think both of you would love watching Everything Everywhere All At Once and it would make for a great reaction on the channel!
Dune 2 is really epic
It's crazy seeing the difference in how teams spend money when making a film.
Compare this to the new borderlands movie that just came out which cost over $110 million, the gap in quality of the final products is astronomical.
Can't wait for part 2
Just dropped 😉
I would argue and people will agree, that the Dune series modernized Sci-fi. You look at sci-fi movies during the 60s, and then look at sci-fi movies in the 70s.
oh no I thought it was a typo and it's reaction to part 2 but turned out it's re-upload :(
Definitely watch Part 2 before you watch the old Dune film as that film covers events that happen in Part 2, and that way you won’t be spoiled.
Dune is set in in 18000 years into the future, the year 20,000 a.d
10191 ag after guild in the Dune Time line 38000 years. After Guild AG was actually like 6000 years after current time. My dates maybe off a bit. But 10191 is actually 16000 to 18000 years in the future.
Part two lets go
Great decision watching this, one of the most epic movies what can follow in the footsteps of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Altough if it is not a long strech, you could watch the original Dune from 1984, you will see a familiar face playing Paul :)
Actually Star Wars took inspiration from the book of Frank Herbert, but Herbert's book made into a movie much later, since the first Star Wars was released in '77 while Dune in '84.
Benedict-gism is officially my new religion
I’d like to join that religion too 😂😂
19:28 Don't do that, it's pain.
"Benedict-gism.." Dee - 2024 XD
Cooooomeeee Geeeet, Ya Dinnnneeeeerrr!!!
In the book, Dr. Kynes was Zendaya's father. She only exists as female in this movie.
Game of Thrones was inspired by Dune, too.
42:50 Slav squat
dune 2 is even better
The Trilogy would be:
*_DUNE_*
*_DUNE: Messiah_*
*_Childern of DUNE_*
The first book (DUNE) was just broken up into 2 parts.
The 2000 Mini-Series does more world building than these two movies.
Paul is a male Bene Gesserit aka the Kwisatz Haderach.
its more than 20,000 years into the future. as the year zero-1 AG was in the year 13,000 AD/CE this is taking place in the year 10,191 AG 10,191 plus 13,000 is 23,191 so you are off by 3000 years
@@houseofaction Oh gosh darn. 😉
Please react to Dune Part 2.... if you like this your going to love it.
Amazing movie
If only star wars was made for a more mature audience. Dune is just so much better.
Please don't make us wait too long.....please. 🙃😉
Heya love your videos, Id recommend reacting to the valorant cinematics, valorant is also from riot (the company behind league of legends) so you can expect the same level of polish. Also! You havent reacted to the newest League cinematic "Im still here"! Either way, keep up the hood work :3
Please watch Dune 2 if you haven't already.
Part 1 and 2 are basicly 1 movie. the Book was to long to do as single movie. Part 3 is Book 2
When is part 2 ?!
Soon ;)
Please react to Part Two!
😉😉
I clicked on it thinking it was part 2. I'm sad :(
Soon! 😁🙏🏼
you love heavy lore building
so go to champ of it
LOTR

The voice is more a skill than a power. Bene Gesserit are highly trained, but they are not telepathic nor supernatural in any way.
If you like world building, check out One Piece.
