    I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan. The first movie came out when I was 8 years old. I wore a homemade Jawa costume for Halloween. I like all the movies to differing degrees, but I don't feel hate for any of them. (As Yoda said, hate leads to the dark side.) Hope you continue to approach these movies with an open mind and enjoy them.
    (Can't wait for you to get to Rogue One.)

    The hate comes from the movie being a rehash of Episode IV: a youngster on a desert planet with an untapped power, tasked with delivering a droid containg an important piece of information… it even includes the destruction of a planet-destroying giant weapon!🤗
    People took the bait; it’s a cute, entertaining Disney movie; made with extreme care out of fear of screwing up their 4 billion dollars purchase of Lucasfilm, so they played it really, really safe, simply giving the fans the movie they knew they like, just re-packaged in a flashier wrapping paper.

    The hate comes mainly from the fact all the potential this movie set up was completely wasted in it's sequels. Disney improvised these movies after the Force Awakens, unlike George who at least had a plan when he made the original 6. Disney was making it up as they went along, that's why the Sequels are a mess. No story to tell

    I liked this movie a lot. It sets up all the questions that the next two movies should answer... Who is Rey ?, Why did Finn gain a conscience ?, what is going on with this 'First Order' ? With the new republic capital gone, what happens to the galaxy's peace ? Why did Luke's sabre call out ? This is plenty for the next two movies to solve... buckle up there are some surprises in store.

    They sent him away to train with Luke, he was training a new generation of Jedi. The next movie explains it more. Also, Harrison Ford wanted Han to die.

    The movie's biggest criticism is how it plays so much like a retread of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back with a lot of the same story beats. Because of this, critics felt that it leaned too much into nostalgia for the movies in the Original Trilogy. People also didn't like seeing fan-favorite legacy character Han Solo go out like that, even though it was originally planned for him to die way back in Return of the Jedi. Some felt robbed of the opportunity to see Han, Luke, and Leia all back together again.
    It's probably the least derided movie in the Sequel Trilogy though, as each movie gets progressively worse, largely due to a lack of a solid overall plan for the new trilogy. After you watch all three movies, you get a sense that they really didn't know where they were going with the series.

      @@willfanofmanyii3751Enjoying something doesn’t mean people turn their brain off. There seems to be alot of nitpicking and hate out there. To me, that’s not what being a fan is all about. There may be certain things that happen in the story that I wouldn’t write, but I’m not the writer and it’s not my story. If I wanted it my way only, I would write my own fan fiction or make a fan film. It’s like reading a book a throwing a tantrum because your favorite character dies ( Annie Wilkes vibes). Fans aren’t supposed to dictate what happens in a story. It’s supposed to be told to us. It may not be the story I would tell, but I can appreciate and enjoy it anyway. That’s what being a fan is to me. I will always be grateful for any new Star Wars movie or show.

      That's very fair. I think this is the best one of the sequel trilogy. I've decided to speak out in defense more often of the sequels because I think they get undue hate. They aren't as bad as being 1/10 stars or "completely ruined" the story is OK and some of the characterizations and cinematography are top notch. They aren't masterpieces and they aren't as good as the Original Trilogy. But I do place the sequels on par with the Pre quels. Better in SOME ways, worse in others.

      I appreciate your perspective and understand that the Star Wars sequels have been a topic of much debate among fans. It’s clear that these films evoke strong opinions (just like the prequels in the past, and I think it’s important to recognize that everyone’s views are shaped by their own expectations and experiences with the franchise.
      a) Regarding Rey being labeled as a ‘Mary Sue,’ I believe that every character’s journey is open to interpretation. Some may see her abilities as unearned, while others might view them as a fresh take on the hero’s journey. I personally don't see her as a Mary Sue as she does make mistakes and lacks some control in using the force since it is now surging inside of her.
      b) As for the treatment of the original characters, it’s certainly a challenge to balance legacy with innovation. I can see why some fans feel the original characters deserved different arcs, but I also think that introducing new characters and stories is essential for the saga to evolve. I view them as the Kenobi of this trilogy. Here to pass the baton along to the new trio.
      c) Concerning the plot similarities to ‘A New Hope,’ I think there’s merit in both honoring the roots of the series and in forging new paths. It’s a fine line to walk, and not everyone will agree on the execution. I think this film did a good job in balancing the new with the familiar.
      d) Kylo Ren’s character has been polarizing, but I find the complexity of his internal struggle quite compelling. His flaws make him a different kind of antagonist, one that some viewers might relate to more than others. He's someone who is really trying to prove his worth without being undermind by his allies of his family.
      As for the reception of the subsequent sequels and their performance at the box office, it’s a reminder of how diverse the fanbase is and how varied their expectations can be. It’s okay to have differing opinions, and discussions like this can help us understand the wide array of viewpoints within the Star Wars community. I disagree in the box office crashing as all three films made well over a billion dollars with even two of them being the number one films of their respected years.
      Ultimately, I think it’s the passion for Star Wars that brings us together, even when we disagree on certain aspects of its storytelling. What are some elements of the sequels that you did enjoy?

  • @kevinarnold7957
    @kevinarnold7957 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    At first you may like it. Most of us did, because we automatically assumed anything Star Wars at that time would be timeless and generational. At the time of release, nothing SW had been released at the time for years and this was the first with the big Disney wallet behind it. We were all excited and ready for the new Star Wars legacy to begin.
    Once the newness, excitement, and anticipation had worn away … we were able to think about what we watched. And realized EVERY Jedi had and has to go through years of training to be attuned to and use the force. Even Vader “the chosen one” had years of experience and training. Yet Rey immediately is an expert pilot, ship maintenance expert, electronics expert, robotics expert, force wielding mind control expert, picks up a lightsaber and needs no training. Imagine being the best at everything after being dropped off on a desert planet as a child. No wonder the first order was doomed right from the start as soon as Rey entered the screen. She doesn’t need Finn, Han Solo, any Skywalker, training, or anything. I am surprised she simply didn’t destroy the First Order in the first movie with her mind without any equipment, ships, sabers, people, or knowledge of the “First Order”.
    Next, Luke: this isn’t the Luke Skywalker we all know. The Luke we know was hopeful beyond all odds. Yet, faces one downfall in his new school and runs away “forever”. It makes no sense in a character arc of being the hope of the resistance.

    I like the sequel trilogy ok. It's not my favorite Star Wars trilogy but it's good. I just wouldn't call it great. They would have done better to use the same director or same screenwriter for all of it instead of switching teams. The whole thing doesn't flow as well as the earlier trilogies. Although they have some great moments and great visuals and such. They get so much undue hate from old school fanboys and girls that don't like that their childhood franchise took a bit of different direction. I will admit as an older fanboy myself there were things I didn't like but I ultimately have sided with the fans of the sequels, especially when I realized a lot very young Star Wars fans I know liked these ones.

    To each his own. There is no cookie cutter recipe for how to respond to Star Wars; the sequel trilogy included.
    The box office success of this film had almost nothing to do with the Star Wars-ness of it. After the long time between this and ROTS fans were GOING to pay to see it.
    However, after the first week the fidgeting started. The primary complaint was the decision to deconstruct the original SW trio of Han, Luke & Leia; that, of them all, only Leia was allowed to maintain a semblance of her former self.
    Han Solo, the loveable scoundrel with a conscious, was transformed into a deadbeat dad.
    Luke, the actual "hope" referenced Ep IV's title, was reduced to a self-absorbed, curmudgeonly, cynical hermit.
    But the most egregious wrong was not ALLOWING them to do scenes together.
    It was clear the leadership of Lucasfilm made this movie's goal a means to usher out, very unceremoniously, THE FAN'S "old" and usher in THEIR "new".
    It will be interesting to see what you think of the rest of the movies.

This is the one of the sequels I'd say is genuinely good. People don't like it because, Rey is bit op for having not trained with the force, the mane story beats were taken from a new hope. But it's not this movie that's bad it's the next two they visually are beautiful movies and the surface level story is all right but deeper meaning and reasonable force power strength go out the window.

    Thanks, Ashna! 🌌 Ignore all the hate and haters. There is *always* stuff to love about STAR WARS. Absolutely watch the stand-alones and the live-action series. They've always been made out of order, so you'll pick up on what's happening and we're here to help. 🫂

    There are lots of things done wrong here, starting with the plot, that it was already created from many content of lucasarts throw the years, wich they discarted and did there own things. They changed completly some characters from the originals, and people without any training in the force can do amazing shit from nowhere.... those are few reasons of the many...

      She's not a mary sue. This is one of the criticisms of the sequels that is perpetuated in echo chambers and although she is very powerful and quite skilled at certain things easy things to point out is the first time she fights Kylo she loses and is captured and she also lets her friend/mentor die (Han Solo) She also fails at first to convince Luke to come back, she also succumbs to the dark side tempations and is only rescued from Snoke by Kylo otherwise she'd be dead. Also quite socially awkward. So yeah... not a Mary Sue.

    Keep in mind that this is not the story George Lucas intended to tell. In fact, when Disney bought Star Wars from him, he had story treatments already written out but Disney actually rejected them in favor of letting different directors make up the story of each film as they went along, and it shows. The story George Lucas had in mind was much more interesting and original.

    • @oneironaut420
      @oneironaut420 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@raybernal6829 There wasn’t anything that bad about the prequels. It was people’s expectations that made them hate those movies. The movies themselves, while flawed, are sound, and are consistent with the mythological and psychological themes George Lucas has always tried to convey with Star Wars. The sequels have no such intention. They exist solely to get fans’ money by appealing to nostalgia. The prequels expanded the story; the sequels go backwards for no reason other than to make people remember the OT, reducing Star Wars to lightsabers and pew-pew with nothing to say.
