I spent years looking for a paint that did this as I wanted to restore an old "Medcalf Bros." "Hy-Flo" air pump. Now I finally find the paint - only to discover I've lost the pump.
My grandpa used ro tell me stories about using certain paints, or even certain techniques. He used to tear off vinyl landau roofs and repaint with enamel, only thing he needed to get that effect was timing between coats.. good body men are a rare breed nowadays.
This effect comes from the top drying much faster than the bottom of the paint. I have no clue how timing of coats would contribute to that. Im calling bs
TIP* I pre-heat my parts using the Sun maybe 10 min should do. Move parts to a shaded area or inside shop w no dust shake can up a minuet or two giving the part a chance to begin cooling read & FOLLOW ALL DIRCECTIONS ON THE CAN and be patient.... once the part has approached its 1st complete drying place the part in the sun for another 5 mins - I find the Sun (rather than some electric heating device" gives a much more uniform & tight wrinkle finish
I've just done my first, loads of prep and degreasing to start with, then the first light coat and then went in with the heavy horizontal coat but i think i went too heavy as it separated in places, weird... tried not to panic. Following that i went a bit lighter with a more medium vertical coat, this seemed to stick better and avoid the separation, same with the diagonal coat, but then i felt like i had gone a bit too light i did another opposite diagonal coat and luckily by the end all the areas that had separated had filled in nicely. I gave it 5 mins between each coat and then 10 mins before hitting it with the heat gun on the low setting and although it was not what i would call 'perfect' i was very happy with the results. Moral of the story dont go too heavy, even coverage is key to good results and the heat gun at the end definitely does the trick to wrinkle it. If i was to do it again i would do a light coat then lean on the medium coat side of things with 4 coats, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, opposite diagonal.
Yea I just did it on my valve cover and there are areas that look like grandmas skin I may have sprayed to close and or to much in one area I still have to wait for the paint to dry but I’ll probably have to start over if it looks shit
I followed these instructions to a tee. The paint wrinkled slightly in some areas--and not at all in others. Hit it with a fourth HEAVY coat--just a disaster.
I just did my valve cover and had the same initial result. Did the 3 coats as instructed by some areas didn't wrinkle at all. Maybe I didn't lay enough down in those areas? I'm just going to leave it as is and call it a learning experience.
@@starquestman1544 I'm sorry, I haven't as yet. One of the problems is time and the other is that I have not been able to find this product in the UK. Good luck with your project.
@@acestudioscouk-Ace-G0ACE To anyone looking for a paint for recreating that old wrinkle finish on electronics, this stuff recreates that old style finish perfectly!, (when it works, that is!) I found a can of black locally and painted the VTVM case. The stuff has a learning curve to it, and I started to get the feel for it right about when I used the last of the can in redoing different sections that I had messed up on. I stripped the case to bare metal and applied it following every instruction on the can, even the later section that seems to apply to touchup only has important instructions that apply regardless of whether you do a 4th coat or not. After doing the different direction coats and allowing the proper cure time between coats the top turned out absolutely perfect the first time but the sides and back had some issues with the wrinkle texture being very splotchy. After stripping the sides and back and repeating the process, I managed to get some better results experimenting with a heat gun like they did in the video. I found I could do the 3 coats one after the other with only a short break between them, then I would use the heat gun way back from the piece keeping it still and after about 5-10 seconds the paint would start to wrinkle and spread outwards. I think a hair dryer might actually work better for this since it has more airflow at a lower temperature that would help even out the finish. I could never quite get the sides and back as perfect as the top came out, but I bet I could if I had another can to try it one more time. The stuff was still soft after sitting overnight and I redid the sides the morning after. I put the case in the oven at 200F for an hour and all 4 sides cured nicely, so I do believe this step must be followed in order to cure the paint completely. hope this helps anyone out that may have troubles with this stuff!
Wish I would’ve watched this video first. I kinda messed mine up. The problem I have now is I have no idea how to remove it and try again? Will paint thinner work on removing this stuff?
This is interesting because I did a quick Google search for the grey sp205 and saw some insane prices too! One was about $18 but I wonder if it is actually in stock?
I used a heat gun to accelerate the wrinkle process and the wrinkle appeared within minutes. I simply followed the instructions for spraying: first coat vertical, second coat horizontal and third coat diagonal. I waited 5 minutes before applying the next coating. Here's a sample of the results: th-cam.com/video/HBgyPW_0gw4/w-d-xo.html
If it doesn’t wrinkle, you need to use thicker coats, i had the same issue only to find out that if the layers you spray aren’t thick enough, it won’t wrinkle.
The can I got sucked I been a body man for 46 years it's the worst wrinkle paint I ever used and I have used a bunch Eastwood is king in wrinkle paint people don't waist your money on this crap

Make this in Kennedy tool box colors and I’ll buy it in a heartbeat. Kennedy brown, specifically, would be a lifesaver.
Followed the video, and it worked quite well! I just want to know how long to wait to bake it in the oven after painting it.
Really nice job guys, So where is the blue wrinkle SP206? I cannot find the blue

This is going to be great for old radios like my 1940 RCA AR88 communications receiver. Thanks for the video.
Did you ever use it on that old RCA? I came across this paint looking for something to repaint my old RCA 195a VoltOhmist VTVM I'm fixing up.

I've tried other wrinkle paint that just falls off after about a year, hopefully this will wear better.
It would help show the paint finishes, if you turned on the lights?
Your hair is gnarly dude. Also thanks for the video.
I painted a guitar body with it an it came out great
This is exactly what I need. 😄
Have you ever tested using two colors together? I'm looking to make a hammered Black with Blue look.

This video literally shows you how to strip paint
@@FightingSportsMedia it’s not paint. It’s poly rubberized coating. Completely different
how long after painting should you bake it ?
Can i use it over something thats has primer on?
Or can i also spray it on something thats painted?
I was just about to ask something similar, won’t the paint peel off sooner if there’s no primer applied to the part first??
Can you used this on brake caliper?
No primer coat needed?
Can you paint over the wrinkle like if I get gray wrinkle paint can I go over it with purple to make a purple wrinkle paint
After the wrinkle is formed any other coating of regular paint would just lay over top of it
Where can we source the blue SP206?
How can I clean wrinkle paint from dust and dirt?
I would use a mild soap diluted in water with a detailing brush or if you don't have one, a regular paintbrush.
I can't seem to get it right when painting some handlebars :(
why is no one talking about the insane prices on the VHT SP206 Blue. WHY CANT I FIND IT IN STOCK ANYWHERE???

Is one can of paint enough for 3 coats on these rocker covers?
Yes it is.
Thanks mark
