You guys just got a huge update on the coilovers literally this morning! They are on the delivery truck and will be to me by the end of the day! Videos will be coming!!
Next time, just cure in the sun. I did an outer primary cover for a Harley Davidson this morning. It came out perfect. There were a couple spots that I didn’t like so I resprayed a little extra to touch up and put it back in the sun. It has come out surprisingly well. Almost full proof.
Just for the future, purple power is not safe on aluminum. This is why you got all that staining. But since you're painting it, it doesnt really matter. Paint job looked good though👌
always awesome to watch your how to vids. The wrinkle black looks the best when it comes to painting your valve cover. I did that with mine also. I know its in hind sight but if you do a valve cover again to cut a little time off, the holes where the valve grommets are, are the same size as a quarter. I used quarters to cover them up. But valve cover looks good!!!
@@RefineMovement the one in the video is black, if I want red, is it possible if I spray another red paint over the wrinkled paint? because there is no red wrinkle paint here.
I did this on my miata cover a year ago and didn't do a thick enough coat, so I'm back now to reapply and hit some other parts while I'm at it ;) Thank for the tips and the video!
followed the same procedure and it came out great did everything minus the heat gun overall a great cheap paint job it was only 12 bucks cured great looks awsome 👍🏼👍🏼
I’ve had luck getting the paint off of the “Honda” letters by just using a scraper. Wait til it’s dry to the touch but before it’s completely cured and the paint will just scrape perfectly off the letters and “H” symbol. I’ve also seen people use chap stick on the lettering so the paint just comes right off.
I will try to do this on my d16y8 valve cover with one change. Before painting I will try to polish letters and after painting clean fresh paint from them with scalpel. It should be easier to do. Greetings from Poland!
Oh heck about shooting some later! Nobody will care after another 100 years, or maybe a couple of years. Great job done, thank you for sharing your vlog.
Haha thanks for remembering man! But yeah, it’s hard to not want to do my best at it. Then I see the result and I want to do another one now and really make it special. But you know the feeling!
Hey man you could try using a long flat file or a large flat sanding block to get those letters all in one hit amd keep them flat no low spots no round edges 👌
Dude!!! Car is looking nice! Just wish you had done this video 5 years ago before I painted my engine cover(D15). I painted it white but it was my daily so I had to rush it, but in the end still looked not too bad. But cars are looking better and better. Love the channel guys!
Haha thanks man! 5 years ago I had no idea I’d be able to have a second car that was just a project! I know the feeling about having to make sure something gets done on time when it’s your daily.
Great paint job , I'm gonna do the same except what I am gonna paint is an old dentist arm boom that held the tray / tool / drills , it's a huge unit because it attached to the chair that you sit / lay back in .....I'm gonna separate the spittoon rinse and vac hoses... I'm just going to use the articulating boom arm for my coin / electronics microscope ..... It's going to resemble a AMSCOPE arm and the price was right .... FREE .... Saved me 300 bux ....
How to do a good job on the raised letters? Masking or sanding? Answer: Neither one. Spray two medium coats of paint with just a few minutes flash time between them. While the paint is still wet, use a SMALL rag (cotton t-shirt type) and some aerosol carb & choke cleaner. Stretch the rag over the tip of your index finger and wet the tip of it with a quick spritz of carb cleaner. Very carefully use your fingertip to wipe the paint off of the raised letters while it's still wet. Turn the rag very frequently as it saturates quickly with the still-wet paint. It need not be perfect at this stage. Set the part out in direct sunlight to cure it. The sun heats it far more evenly than the heat gun can. The part will wrinkle in just a few minutes. While it's still hot and "soft", the rag and index finger can then be used again to get the letters perfectly clean. No grinding, no sanding, no masking. Before handling the part too much, let it dry overnight to harden up well.
Thanks a lot Anthony! Try it man. Easy process really but bring your patience with you lol. I had a lot of fun with it anyway so I hope you do too if you do it
Nice job Robbie! I can't waitto do the same to my swap when the time comes. I feel ya on the restoration aspect. I'm probably going to strip the rear on my hatch and possibly paint that too. Maybe a rear harness wire tuck
Thanks a lot Ted! I’m happy to hear you understand on restoring parts. It’s really rewarding man and making one part new at a time adds up to something really nice
I wanna do my bike exhaust...i think I'm gonna use the wrinkle-paint , first... Then after it dries , hit it with their low-gloss black header paint.... That should cover blemishes .
Finally !!! Haha, quick question y don’t any of you guys have upgraded motor mounts? If both builds are for circuit why has that not been addressed, I swapped mine and the difference is so much better, love the vids keep on building.
Yeah, upgraded motor mounts are something both of us want to get. There’s just so many things to buy for these cars it’s really just a case of they are on the list of to-do’s
Thanks for the video. Very informative and probably best instructional. What do you think about mixing in the red paint to try for a 50/50 black to red or even a slight red tint like 25/75 red to black?
I’d say yes if you’re going with a lighter color so it pops more but if you’re just gonna do black or anything dark I don’t think it would really matter cause it’s textured
Been awhile since i watched, i last left off on the last engine swap, this is the VTEC D series correct? Because you said you had the busted engine, but i know you had 2 VTEC swaps?
Idk if you still reply to comments, but any suggestions for what to do if you have rounded bolts on the brackets on the cover? Mine are kinda siezed to the valve cover and the bolt just gets round when I try to take it off.
I don’t know if it would work on plastic pieces, haven’t tried it myself. Give it a go though and see, the finish is cool so hopefully it would give the same effect on plastic
Haha I know right. What will we do with ourselves!? I’m sure something will come up. Seems the EG loves throwing new issues to solve at me! But I hope to be chasing some new lap times sooner than later
Can this work the same process with plastic Valve covers mine is plastic on my 2010 Corolla XRS I'm looking to do Red and paint the VVT-I word in White
You guys just got a huge update on the coilovers literally this morning! They are on the delivery truck and will be to me by the end of the day! Videos will be coming!!
Refine Movement hell yea can't wait to see how she sits with your wheels and tires.
Nice!
Refine Movement can't wait man hope you guys are excited
What are those plugs for the ones that are broken that go to the distributor
Refine Movement good job little brother
I love this guy’s energy. Is probably super fun to be around. That’s what the world needs more of.
Seriously. Very positive energy

Came for the valve cover job, subscribed for the vibes 🙌🏼
Dude. I've watched quite a few of these and yours turned out waaaaay better than everyone else's. Good work dude
the purple power is what's causing your discoloration. It's pretty strong for aluminum if it sits more than a minute or two
Looks great.
When I did mine years ago I used chapstick on the areas I didn’t want paint. Once the paint was dry it came right off.
Skip to 12:35 to see the valve cover being painted
I’m five years late I know. Searched to see if I wish to go wrinkle paint on my valve cover. Really enjoyed the presentation. ❤️🇦🇺
It is very satisfying bringing old parts back to new looking.

Gotta love that FL Summer rain. Looking good man.
Canada here..nice n clean, organize wires, and, lol...huile is pronounced "will" w a "h" in front...keep turning that wrench... one love
That heat gun is the magic! I did mine awhile back and without the heat it didn't come out this good. Now I know for next time! Thx!
I don't know who you are but you deserve more than 20k subs!!!!
I did this on my miata cover a year ago and didn't do a thick enough coat, so I'm back now to reapply and hit some other parts while I'm at it ;) Thank for the tips and the video!
It turned out very well looks awesome I can't wait till you guys finish the cars I'm really excited for some good track content
followed the same procedure and it came out great did everything minus the heat gun overall a great cheap paint job it was only 12 bucks cured great looks awsome 👍🏼👍🏼
14:08 what a difference. Awesome!
Cover turned out great! Hell of a job! Keep on wrenching!
Thanks a lot man, sure appreciate your encouragement!
You left handed? i couldn't imagine painting with my left. I'd mess everything up...
Also, nice job!!!

Graphic designers tend to be perfectionists, that's why and what I'm goin with because I am one too.
Haha thanks for remembering man! But yeah, it’s hard to not want to do my best at it. Then I see the result and I want to do another one now and really make it special. But you know the feeling!
Hey man you could try using a long flat file or a large flat sanding block to get those letters all in one hit amd keep them flat no low spots no round edges 👌
that’s a good idea too!
Is it mandatory to use the heat gun or can you just let it sit and same results will happen?

Looks wayyyy better with the fresh paint!! Good job 👌
Actually came out pretty good... for your 1st time.
How to do a good job on the raised letters? Masking or sanding?

I am pretty sure that sanding block is supposed to be used to clean your grinding stone when it gets gummed up with paint.
Great video, the rocker cover and the other bits look fine, keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Came out great for it being your first time. 👌
Need to put hondabond near the distributor. It's in the service manual.
Came out great for a 1st timer. I'm going to start doing some jeep parts. Looks easy
Thanks man! Have fun with the Jeep project!
That looks fantastic!!! 👍🤩 thanks for the paint tips broski!!! 🎨 👨🎨
Good job bro looks awesome! Them Polish groments look really clean, make valve cover pop.. they compliment the blk
Thanks a lot man! it was a real fun process, I’d love to try painting another
The lithium grease is to seal between the boot and the valve cover hole.
Good stuff... this guy seems real friendly... good video man👍
Great job on the valve cover! I may end up doing this myself to refresh my own eventually!
Thanks a lot Anthony! Try it man. Easy process really but bring your patience with you lol. I had a lot of fun with it anyway so I hope you do too if you do it
@@RefineMovement think this would hold up on my dirtbikes valve cover?
Nice job Robbie! I can't waitto do the same to my swap when the time comes. I feel ya on the restoration aspect. I'm probably going to strip the rear on my hatch and possibly paint that too. Maybe a rear harness wire tuck
Thanks a lot Ted! I’m happy to hear you understand on restoring parts. It’s really rewarding man and making one part new at a time adds up to something really nice
Yo thats damn beautiful
If you run a racing oil with a deterrent like Royal Purple, it'll help get rid of all that carbon
Valve cover came out awesome btw
love your energy, nice work
I just did the same with my trackcar like a month ago..awesome!
Oh nice! You happy with how yours came out?
Refine Movement i would have like to get more wrinkles in it but its not too bad lol. I also didnt sand any of the letters or emblem so its all black.
First of all, congrats to the job, i found it preety awesome!! And, how abrir do the same with the intake righ over there ? I think it Will be good

nice painted valve cover civic d16y8 clean valve cover
Thanks for the video.. I have a 97 coupe with vtec valve .. the question is I can used the valve cover front 95 d16z6 on the 97?
Would you recommend spraying the valve cover with primer before you lay down your wrinkle paint?
I’d say yes if you’re going with a lighter color so it pops more but if you’re just gonna do black or anything dark I don’t think it would really matter cause it’s textured
Is there a reason to not put primer on before the paint? I was informed to put on primer, but now Im wondering if its even needed.
Nice job! Btw is it worth the OEM valve gasket set over aftermarket, in my country is 3 times more expensive than Elring or Victor Reinz?
I love restoring things as well brotha 👌. Great job and im glad you noticed thise chips on the Y8 cover , i gringed lmao 💯.
Next time, just use a flat sanding block and sand paper for the Honda VTEC. Way faster and you can polish to whatever grit you choose.
Dude VHT put YOUR engine cover in their pictures at amazon :D Good job!!
What! I have to check it out, thanks for telling me
@@RefineMovement yeah i searched it and there was your motor cover :D Best regards
Where did you get the chrome bolts? Nice touch!!!!!
I will do this on my civic ph16 soon! Thanks for the vid! 😂
Now you need to wrap them heaters!
What’s the point of the cardboard if you paint your driveway anyway?
really nice job on this
Looks good Rob!
Came out very nice, bro! 😎
Been awhile since i watched, i last left off on the last engine swap, this is the VTEC D series correct? Because you said you had the busted engine, but i know you had 2 VTEC swaps?
This is the d16y8 in here. The d16z6 is the one I had originally bought but ended up knocking as soon as I started it up
That's Baddass!! Love it!
Great choice in color. Not into the red valve covers unless it comes from factory that way.
Thanks man. Yeah, I dig the black. Red on d series just doesn’t fit in my mind.
Idk if you still reply to comments, but any suggestions for what to do if you have rounded bolts on the brackets on the cover? Mine are kinda siezed to the valve cover and the bolt just gets round when I try to take it off.
I think you could use sandpaper on a wooden block for the lettering. Those stone tips arent for this kind of work.
Is it good to put Matte clear on it ?
Out of interest how many cans did you need to use? Can I get away with 1?
Looks Great man
Should have used rubbing alcohol or brake cleaner to prep the valve cover. Purple power works great for degreasing parts, but leaves a residue behind.
Clint Stathis Acetone works wonders
Civic D16 BR did he use acetone? If so I missed that.
Clint Stathis Just saying. Easier to found
Use Rust-Oleum aircraft paint remover
I have a 95 accord, where did u get the valve cover bolts?
Sweet work bro dose it work on a plastic engine cover?
I don’t know if it would work on plastic pieces, haven’t tried it myself. Give it a go though and see, the finish is cool so hopefully it would give the same effect on plastic
Can I use sandpaper instead when removing the paint on "VTEC HONDA"?
Probably yeah. Get a low grit so you can take the paint off easier then smooth it out with a higher grit I would guess
Love your videos, what part of Florida are you at?
All this work done to the EG, how are you going to be when its pretty much perfect for the track :p. Will miss the working on EG / EJ8 videos :p.
Haha I know right. What will we do with ourselves!? I’m sure something will come up. Seems the EG loves throwing new issues to solve at me! But I hope to be chasing some new lap times sooner than later
Im sure it will be good to enjoy the car, instead of constantly fixing the small issues. And always good to see lap times fall with new parts added.
Did you have to drain the oil out the engine before removing the cover?
No just make sure nothing falls in once the cover is off
Looks so good man
Thanks a lot Daniel! Nice when putting in the effort pays off
Refine Movement for sure you come a long way its coming out so good cant wait for the next video
hi Brother how and where can I get a can of this matte wrinkle black im based in india if you could advice would appreciate it
I got it from my local autoparts store but I would imagine you could buy VHT wrinkle paint from ebay or any online autoparts store out your way
Can this work the same process with plastic Valve covers mine is plastic on my 2010 Corolla XRS I'm looking to do Red and paint the VVT-I word in White
Use plasti dip
Does it say heat gun or in the oven just wondering if do it could I just put it in the oven like other high temp paints
You can do the oven or heat gun.
Did anyone wlay primer before? I primed thinking it best for adhesion
Is that stuff good for the high temperature? How does it look now?
Still looks great and yeah its meant for high temp
Thanks!!
I don't think that ground is grounded. Valve cover is isolated via gaskets.
It's grounded bro, that bolt goes into the engine block.
Paint it black put it back nicely done ✔
Could have just used a straight blade on the letter, tape around it and use a sanding sponge
Looks amazing
Great job man!
Hey Robbie how many cans of paint did you use in all?
Oh dude I don’t even think it was half of that one can that I used. I laid it on thick too as you saw. Very inexpensive job. $9 for the can of spray
I would think a flap disc would be much easier on those letters
That earth cable bugs me bro think you should try and move it
Off the chain son
Thanks a lot man!
Came out great
Hey I was wondering, can I tape the logo and vtec logo instead of sanding it? Thanks
Yeah of course. This is just what I did
Thanks!
Use a light coat of vaseline before you spray. Taping it is a PITA and the vaseline method comes out just as good
