    Love this stuff, I always use it as well! I wait for it to fully dry, then mask around the lettering to block sand with 180 grit to get a nice etched finish

    For a better finish on the letters and emblem, block sand the paint off in a single direction.

    Nice job bro, I did mine with the black and baked it in a cardboard box with a space heater. If anybody out there doesn't have a heat gun. You can make a makeshift oven like that.

    Great job! I can't wait to do my vintage Lyman 4 hole turret reloading press. All manufacturers used wrinkle and now all but one (forster) use hammered powder coat! Thank God for VHT red its going to be sick 🔥 everyone who refinishes a press just uses any spray paint i want wrinkle! If I could get green for my vintage RCBS press I'd really be happy! If you spayed VHT wrinkle Black or Grey and let dry then went over with normal green spray paint do you think it would work / look ok? Those wrinkle paints from the 40's & 50's are impossible to find!

    Just put it in your oven to cure on a baking pan. Set the oven to warm so your not literally baking it. It will cure and end in a nice wrinkle finish in no time. It needs heat to wrinkle correctly though so using a heat gun or the oven is must or it won't look right and you will have some spots that are more wrinkled than others.

    • @PimpTwzt
      @PimpTwzt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      bringing the can of paint inside if it's cold outside, a few hours prior is a good idea, and using a heat gun on the low setting, CAREFULLY, to warm it as you're using it, not a bad idea too

  • @jeffruebens8355
    @jeffruebens8355 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ChrisFix puts a big storage container over the part to keep bugs and floaters out of the paint while it dries. Another option is the ceramic brake caliper paint from an Advance auto parts store, about $10 for a large spray can. VHT might be the best brand for hotter exhausts.

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is wrinkle paint is awesome stuff and is very durable for its price. I prefer wrinkle paint over glossy paint for valve covers just because if it gets dirty its actually harder to notice. VHT does make a great product and its nothing like other spray can paints.

    • @jeffruebens8355

      @@JamesDguy The ceramic brake caliper paint from an Advance auto parts store instead of a wrinkle paint, or on top of a wrinkle paint to try to make it more durable. This paint is difficult to get it to run or drip, and covers well. I have used it for brake calipers and metal roof chimneys and roof flashing- it does very well for vertical surfaces.

      The civic i currently have the orange one? Its truck bed coating 1000 grit won't do any good. Also the silver civic we are doing white is already sanded down the clear and silver base color was chipped beyond touch up repair. The entire car needs repainted. Waiting on a garage so we can paint it.

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it does work on plastic i have done it before. You don't HAVE to use heat for the wrinkle to take effect it just takes longer for the process to work. You could do it on low on a hair dryer and keep moving and it should be fine

      Moore Motorsports James Dguy well I’m having trouble getting the rocker assembly to go back on to the head after I got the cams switched out and I couldn’t find anyone to help me so I went and asked the guy at keevers on 30th and showed him pictures of everything that happened. Well he gave me a few suggestions on how to get the assembly back on but he asked if I have pulled the head yet so to see if there was any damage and I told him no because all the valves were still in the head so it seemed fine and he told me anytime a camshaft snaps or a serpentine belt breaks on a motor like that it’s like a 98% chance that it bent at least one valve.. so now I gotta pull the head after just doing a head gasket job and a bunch of new parts to have the head fixed or replaced. And I asked him about how much to fix it and put new valves in and it’s about $400 for everything including labor.. I can just buy a new head for like $300 I’m so frustrated now

      Using the acetone like he did is sooo unnecessary. After its dry you just take a sanding block to it.. comes out a beautiful bright brushed aluminum finish.

    • @PimpTwzt
      @PimpTwzt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should add take a razor blade to it first to get most the paint off the raised lettering. Then take a sanding block to it. I used to do this probably been 15 years or so ago now.

      It don't turn out like you would think. Wrinkle paint is suppose to be a satin/matte finish. if you were to clear coat it then you should use a satin clear but its not necessary since the wrinkle paint is durable on its own. Its more durable than your typical glossy or matte spray paints. Idk if you watch till the end where you can see its matte finish or not but it looks perfect without the clear and last a LONG time. If you don't plan on taking it off alot it should last for years.
