I did this using almost the exact same techniques a little over two years ago and it still looks like new. I did use hi-temp VHT primer though. I have a 1.8 with the raised lettering and I scrapped the wrinkle paint off the top of the raised portion so the bare aluminum shows through against the black wrinkle. Looks good.
Really nice job. I like the quicker heat gun 'method' - more fun and it beats baking it in the oven. This video would inspire confidence in any novice painter. I'd like to see more videos on heat management e.g. what effect bonnet vents make to cooling and similarly for the splash guard and a DIY duct from the front air opening to the splash guard. Keep up the great work.
I’ve got a splash guard video coming I think. I just need enough nice days and free time to go out and film it. Hood vents and stuff might have to wait until we build a more track oriented Miata.
Thanks for the video... I have two cans of VHT wrinkle red, will get primer next. I saw that you didn't replace the CAS o-ring. Had it been done before?
I did it back when I did his timing belt a couple months back. When you take the valve cover off, the cap that houses the CAS o ring doesn’t get removed, so it’s not like a new leak should start.
The only car I’ve seen it fail on was Greg Peters (@thecarpassionchannel) because his top mount turbo was right next to it and cooked it. Otherwise it seems to hold on forever.

Nice!
Can't wait for the inevitable Dylan Turbo Miata content this winter
Both cars are going turbski! Dylan already has a lot of the parts haha.
@@NappMotorsports hell yeah!
Looks sweet! That Miata is fresh too.
It’s a beautiful car!
Nice work, looks good and really complement an already sweet looking engine bay.
Definitely ties it all together!
Excellent video and good tips. Thanks for your clear presentation.
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice, cool to see the wrinkle pull through.
The best part.

Well, now the winter build list just got a lil longer!
I know a guy who can help you out.
Would it be better to use clear coar on top of the rocker cover for more protection
It has a clear finish, but I've never had an issue with powder coat. If it was paint then sure.

What is the filter for and where did you get it?
I believe it comes with the track dog racing kit.
Did you sand/scuff the primer?
Nope. You can if you want to but there’s no need.
Should the paint be heat resistant?
It is quite heat resistant. If you want an even better solution, powder coat will give a similar finish and better longevity.
how long does this last?

@@NappMotorsports yea i saw that too, im going to Paint my valve Covers in that Paint and hope they turn out ok cuz its a pain getting them of haha
is 1 can of vht enough?

@@NappMotorsports thank you 😉
