    With only a short amount of time in Hungary we knew Budapest had to be the place to visit, travel and vlog. Today was exploring the Buda side of the city starting with Chain Bridge, then up to Buda Castle and further around to Fishermans Bastion.
    The Chain Bridge has so many interesting stories about it's build, but we love the story of the Hungarian stunt pilot flying underneath, year before we visited in 2018.
    Walking over the Chain Bridge we arrived at the base of the Buda Castle, aka Budapest Castle. There was a festival on so we couldnt get full access to the Castle grounds sadly, but the view back over the city of Budapest and the Chain Bridge made it worth it.
    Further around to Fishermans Bastion we discovered the most epic little church, more views of Budapest and hundreds of people. Definitely walk the back streets of Fishermans Bastion and get lost in the little lane ways.

    Budapest is a great city to visit as there is a lot to do and see which is surprising considering its 20th century violent history. IMO the prices for dinning, travel and drink are pretty cheap compared to other European capital city. Most of the shop / retail shop staff speak pretty good English.

    I guess you were at the same time in Budapest as we were - and yes, it was a medieval festival (free admission), just one day before August 20th, which is a holiday in Hungary, and is even celebrated with a big firework. Unfortunately, we left the city on August 19th... so as I'm currently putting together an album of our photos from Budapest, your video was suggested to me by TH-cam. I'm very happy about that! It's a great video and very refreshing to see such a beautiful city from an other point of view!

    ahhh nice vid guys. Yep Budapest has many faces, many good and also many bad like u mentioned the smell. But regadles all of these it is a very vibrant place. Also avoiding turist places is not that easy there. But all the common big city rules applie there as well. If you follow them there is not gonna be a problem. Water and drinks are cheap if you use stores like CBA, Spar, small stores within the highly populated turist places and 1st place goes to castle is Freakin expensive.

      Apparently it only happens 4 times a year or something, so we were lucky the bridge was closed! The Széchenyi Chain Bridge By 1945, the Széchenyi Chain Bridge was already destroyed for quiet some time. After ww2, the Széchenyi Chain Bridge was completely rebuilt and slightly modified and somewhat based on century old designs by Soviet engineers and Soviet soldiers. The Soviet workers and soldiers were mostly of Ukrainian descent and of Russian descent. This was on the orders of Joseph Stalin. The steel and other materials of the prezent structure built right after ww2 came from the Soviet Union. The materials of the 1849 original bridge came from England.

    Hello guys, If this video was recorded on 20th August (which is a public holiday in Hungary) the Chain Bridge was closed because of the fireworks. See video here: th-cam.com/video/dvqLQjXz-s0/w-d-xo.html (Historical background: "Hungary's first king St. Stephen's Day, also the day of the Foundation of Hungary and "the day of the new bread". St. Stephen of Hungary (Szent István király in Hungarian) (ca. 975 - 15 August 1038), as the first king of Hungary, led the country into the Christian church and established the institutions of the kingdom and the church. He was canonized on 20 August 1083, and 20 August is his feast day in Hungary. Celebrated with a half-hour fireworks display on the bank of the Danube in the evening, which is attended by many people on both river banks and is watched by many from the hills on the Buda side of the river and from the rooftops of both Pest and Buda.")

    in fact roof tiles at that church are the same which were used in Vienna for the st.stephan cathedral. The reason- they were one huge empire- Austro-Hungarian, which big cities-Vienna, Budapest and Prague, had competition between each other which one will look better at the time. The Parliament in Budapest is was thought to resemble the one in London, however, to be bigger and better looking...although, honestly there was no so many politicians back in the days, and there were no need in such humongous building...however competition took its toll, and because all of those spendings were taken from the people in form of taxes, in the whole Empire, the Hungarians and Balkanik countries suffered for being the poorest.

    • @remekficko
      @remekficko 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually there were more politicians working in the building after construction than today. Hungary was 3 times as big as today, and it was originally a 2 chamber parliament. But of course, it was built also for representation purposes; Budapest was after all the capital of Austria-Hungary (one of the two).

    Not my site here, my first 6 week long family visit to Budapest was in communist days in 1978. I was 23 and brought my 2 1'2 year old son from S. Ca. to Budapest . I was probably one of the only tourists at the time walking the streets. Even had "men in overcoats" following us around, even was asked for my passport at one point while just enjoying a drink with my husband. just weird now to see so many tourists acting like they "discovered" Budapest, I live here in Budapest now and can't hardly stand to walk around because of the overload of people in the city. In fact most locals can't enjoy their city because of all these 4 day tourists. Just think how the locals feel with so many people cramming the sidewalks and stopped to take photos that no one really is all that much interested in seeing. No one wants to live where they can't even walk outside without a looky lou everywhere. Budapest as turned in Disneyland.
