  • Visiting the Buda Castle is a must if you come to Budapest and in this video we show you our top favorite things to do so you can have a lovely time here!
    The Buda Castle district - also known as the Castle Quarter - is one of the most visited places the city of Budapest, and there is a good reason for that.
    The district itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site hosting many amazing buildings to visit and see, such as the Matthias Church, the Fishermans Bastion and the Buda Castle iself! But there is also a creepy labyrinth and the Hospital in the Rock with it's unique history!
    And besides the gorgeous architecture to see and take pictures of, there is also the amazing view of the Pest side and the Danube riverside, you can view the Parliament, the St Stephens Basilica and many other sites from here! But there are also some nice foods to try, and some interesting experiences to check out, so in this video we'll show you how you can spend a day in the Buda Castle District.
    We took the Funicular to reach the top, you can check how much the latest prices are and what the opening hours are here:
    www.bkv.hu/en/buda_castle_fun...
    We first wernt to the Buda Castle, you can wander around and enjoy it's outside or visit the Castle Museum:
    www.varmuzeum.hu/jegyek.html (unfortunately there is no English page, try using a page translator like the one in chrome)
    Then we visited the Hospital in the Rock, which was also used as a bunker, it has an interesting history and a nice guided tour that takes an hour:
    www.sziklakorhaz.eu/en/inform...
    CREDIT: Photos downloaded from wikipedia page: hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sziklak...
    We then went to grab some amazing Strudels at Rétesvár:
    goo.gl/maps/ADfMiCgZSXvhHdUY8
    After that, we got ourselves some nice coffee at PABooks (Trinity Cafe), its a bookstore and a cafe in one place!
    g.page/trinity-cafe-budapest?...
    We also visited the Labyrinth, it was a very cool experience because the place got really dark and very mystical! Make sure to have some cash with you as the place does not accept cards:
    labirintus.eu/en/informacio/
    CREDIT: Photos downloaded from labirintus.eu/en/
    We had to make a stop at Ruszwurm and try their famous creamy cake! And it delivered indeed!
    goo.gl/maps/kZAomjsQUPjxc4x28
    We visited the Matthias Church from the inside, and it is totally worth it! I even like it maybe better than St Stephens Basilica's inside. We couldnt go up to the tower, but the view must be amazing up there too!
    matyas-templom.hu/prices
    The next must see was Fishermans Bastion, you need to pay to go up but the view of Budapest can also be enjoyed through the many columns behind the Church!
    goo.gl/maps/MXahgrji9rYjtGXs5
    We were then just wondering around, went to Tóth Árpád promenade where the Cherry blossom was visible (at the time we recorded the video in late April). And then was time for another coffee at 4minutes:
    goo.gl/maps/mcgrkNkgttvwXZan6
    We finally went for a dinner and grabbed a Chicken Paprikás, which is a local dish and it was very nice and tasty!
    There are many tourist trap restaurants in the area, but this one was certainly very nice: 21 Hungarian Bistro:

    Love your videos, best videos about Hungary we found so far. Had the Kremes at Ruszwurm, in my opinion, best kremes ever! My wife’s Hungarian, but we live in the US, and going to Hungary in 3 weeks! Looking forward to visit the places mentioned in your videos!

    I ate at Ruszwurm in 1996-7. Similar menu, quite tasty. In the video you said the Esterhazy cake is made with hazelnuts but when i had it I think walnuts were used. Pretty sure I had the strudel too...

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah these had walnuts not hazelnuts, I confused the two words when we recorded it 😅 Originally the recipe was with Almonds but Walnuts replaced those over time.

    Hello Akos! We are coming to Budapest next week! Thanks so much for your wonderful channel! I'm looking for a great restaurant in the district just east of the Margaret Bridge. We are going on a sunset cruise there too. Trouble is, I have a big group of 22 people! Which restaurants there are good, and big enough to accommodate our group? I'd appreciate your advice. - Jo Beck

      Hey there! Within such a short time it may be a challenge to find space in restaurants for so many people to be honest. You can try VakVarjú or perhaps Vígvarjú if they have availability. (Vakvarju has a location in the city center but also a bit to the north close to Nyugati railway station). I know it's not close to Margaret bridge, but for large groups I sometimes have luck with Stex ház (close to Corvin metro station, they are decent, not great) I hope you can find a place available and will have a good time in Budapest!

    Thank you for your excellent videos!We are coming to Budapest in July and I am using all your videos to plan my trip! One question, how enclosed are the rooms in the labyrinth and Hospital in the Rock? I’m slightly claustrophobic and am trying to figure out if I can handle it?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there! Both have hallways like cellars or bunkers do, they aren't too narrow, but they are indeed underground places where space is limited. I am not an expert and have no friends or relatives who are claustrophobic, so it's difficult for me to tell :( The Hospital in the rock has an active Facebook page, perhaps you can reach out to them there, they may have more experience with visitors who were in similar shoes :)

    Hi.. Regards from Indonesia. I am planning to visit Budapest in July. What is the best time to visit the castles?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! It depends on how much you wish to explore the castle District, if you go to see almost all the attractions, it's easy to spend the entire day, so you can start early (depending on the opening hours 😉) if you stick around till the sun sets you can look down at the Pest side of the city when things start to get illuminated 😊 hope you'll have a Great Time!

    Hello! For the labirinth , you said that they accept only cash. They accept euros? For the Funicular they acccept cards? Or we have to have hungarian cash?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey there! Not sure if the Labyrinth accepts Euros, if they do it will be at a horrible conversion rate. But nothing about acceptance of Euro is available on their website. The Funicular normally accepts both cash and card. Generally it's best to have local currency as places accepting Euros will use much more worse conversion rates than Exchange vendors.

      They operate every day except for few times when they do maintenance. Just note that the ticket prices have increased since the time of filming this. Now there is only a return ticket (up and down) available for 4000 HUF

    Why is there a black tower on the Mattias church?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That tower is called the Huszártorony or Hussar Tower and it is made out of wood. I couldn't find any reasoning on the color but I would assume the reason for the distinct color compared to the rest of the building is because of the material it's made of :) Up until now I didnt know much about it, but thanks to your question I looked it up and it is called Hussar tower because it sits on the back of the church like a hussar on a horse. Because of this placement it needs to be light in weight, which is why its made of wood. I have also learned something today :)
