- This is mostly a meme video poking fun at people who think X is super complicated and/or think the battle system being more complex makes it better than a game like 1 or 2. I actually like X a lot I promise. The combat is definitely fun when you get overdrive but I still personally prefer 2. I've been replaying X while I've been sick and going through school semester. Never got the chance to actually make cool X videos since didn't have a capture card at the time of release so guess this is my first actual video for the game. I wouldn't actually mind making more in the future if people want to see some more serious type videos.
Poppi guide soon. (I keep saying that but it probably will release before xc2 1 year anniversary since I have a video planned for that day too. Semester nearly over so may be able to go back to more active video making soon if I'm not too busy playing smash.
If you're wondering how I actually did so much damage in one art, there's only 3 main factors.
1. Overdrive, which I explained (poorly) in the video
2. Core Crusher, a skill that acts as an independent multiplier that increases damage of ether attacks tremendously when targeting appendages. It was my only skill equipped since I was striker class.
3. appendage crusher augments. i had 5 of these equipped. Basically reduces defense value of appendages and can increase damage a significant amount when stacked if you're targeting appendages.

@@EnelXC I didn't touch overdrive until I was in the postgame, and I don't think my choice of Galactic Knight was particularly conducive to any sort of overdrive build. Actually, I dicked around and had about 140 hours and a diskbomb Lailah before I cleared chapter 12. I restarted the final boss sequence because I had trivialized it.
Ground combat is definitely more enjoyable.

As someone who has played this game like 6 times i can say with confidence the biggest problem with the battle system isn't that its complex and while yes it seems complicated out the outside once you realize how everything works its really not a huge issue. the really big issue is that the game does a really shit job at actually explaining most things and while i understand some people like figuring out things on their own at times the game doesn't even try to explain things like what the hell the potential stat does and while yes i know that there is a digital manual you can look at which explains most things but some people might not see it or think that it contains nothing useful. also yeah their are plenty of guides on the internet and such but what if someone is playing blind and doesn't want to look up stuff? i think one thing that would have benefited from is some better tutorials.
Actually, playing blind and not knowing this stuff is what made the game fun and challenging. If I knew that the game could be used like that it would have been too easy.
I agree that a tutorial would have been greatfor the more in-depth stuff but I feel like it takes away from the game until after you beat the story or at least trickle it in slowly throughout the game so you don't just dominate from the start.
That's just me though
If the difficulty of a game is not knowing how to play it's not a good game.
Edit 2 years later: Wow this is a strong opinion, definitely too harsh. Still think lack of understanding isn't the same as difficulty but XCX did not deserve this much hate from someone who played so little of the game.

That's now what I'm trying to say. What I mean is that the game feels more balanced, challenging, fitting of the narrative, and skill oriented when you don't ham the game like this. I'm not saying playing dumb is better, I'm saying the stuff being taken advantage of feels like it's supposed to be there for the post game not the main game, but it's available the entire time.
It almost feels like you're supposed to learn it eventually but they didn't know how to throttle it so they just made everything available, kept quiet, and let your own comprehension decide how much you can take advantage of.
I'm mixed about this approach though because although it makes the game IMO too easy if you learn it too early, it also maintains the freedom of exploration and learning to survive in a world with rules you don't fully understand yet and adds depth to the game when you keep discovering new things.
So I do think the game is better without this stuff but considering the post-game stuff I like the fact that it's possible to go god-mode. I just wish they had a system that let you grow smoothly and appropriately from "Challenging story" to "God moding the OP post game stuff" without letting one bleed into the other.
Basically I'm saying the game needs a proper learning curve that leads into and beyond the story instead of choosing between "Dump the knowledge of god on em at the start" or "Tell them nothing"

I didn't mean to criticize the game that much the most I played was 4 hours at the start trying to find a story mission and havent touched the game since it came out. I'm sure its fun but I think the system should have been changed rather than the teaching process.
It also doesn't help that the text in the game is so small and hard to read from your couch

Thanks for the guide. This actually teached me something I didn't know before. I never noticed that the Overdrive counter had a gauge on the right side telling you how much you have left. I used to judge it by the duration of the song. No joke, it actually worked pretty well this way. Thanks for teaching me a more "reliable" method xD

I literally just bought this game yesterday... Was feeling bored, wanted something different to do, really loved Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and was interested in this game. So I went a bought a used copy for 15$ yesterday. Loving it so far.

It's so weird seeing this in 2018. TH-cam recommended me this because I've been playing X a lot recently and watching just...all the guides.
I'm still having fun three years later.
You know, this is what I love about xenoblade: you have a low skill, low preparation mechanic (skells, visions) that works perfectly fine to complete the story but there exists a mechanic that needs more skill and preparation to pull off but it's very satisfactory and efficient at dealing with tough challenges (overdrive, chain attacks)
I really wouldn't mind you making some XCX vids, it's really good, so I'd like to see what builds you'd use
Best way to learn how to use overdrive
The only thing we find in Super Smash bros. Ultimate about Xenoblade X is just a Formula Skell spirit. How is it possible ? X is an awesome game !
In XC2, grind that mini game for specific Poppi parts for roughly 50 hrs or more. Once you get all the parts... Just send Poppi's final form alone to solo super bosses. You better not have forgotten the light mod!

Xenoblade 2 was my first one, i went in very skeptical but i love it. Got burned out after 140 hours but want to eventually go back for the torna blades and the torna dlc story.

Any build is OP when you have either Core Crusher + Appendage Augments and/or Ghost Walker.

Blossom Dance builds with Ghostwalker were well known on JP version long before the game released for the west, so unless you're telling me you created it back on JP version mere weeks after the game released... it takes like seconds to search up proof.

Here's a Japanese player using it *less than a month* after it's JP release, and there's plenty more where that came from at even earlier dates if you know how to browse Japanese videos. I guarantee you that this player was not inspired by you or your findings, half a year later which is likely when you started playing the game. Even if you *did* play the Japanese version and "discover" the build this early, I sincerely doubt players like this one got the build from you.

This one is really cool. Also X is one of the games on my list that I really want to 100% once I'm back in the mood for playing JRPGs again (after completing 2 with like, idk, >400 hours as my most played Switch game).
And since I could not have done it without your videos on that one and since I just managed to beat the story of X without feeling the need to look up how to really git gud at the combat, more of your videos on X would tremendously come in handy for me!

Dude, thanks for this video! I have been playing this on Cemu and I'm getting later in the game, but wanting to really master the combat and find ways to break the game, so this is great you're doing this even though many have moved on from this. On another note, I really hope they port this game to Switch because I think it really does some things far better than XC2, despite some of its flaws.

Although I’ve never gotten the chance to play X, it looks really fun, and the open world aspects of it are really something cool that you can’t find in the other 2 xenoblade games.

It’s more complex than 2 but their both great game
i was able to figure out the mechanics in 1 and 2 but i could never figure how to extend the timer in X
It's not that hard. You have to farm for some parts to build "arts tp gain" accessories. Once you have some, in battle you need to:
Activate overdrive
Use a green art before using a yellow or orange art in order to double the points gained per hit
Use a purple art whenever you can, they restore tp proportional to the overdrive counter
Spam arts and reactivate overdrive when you have enough tp
Repeat
You can also just spam green arts a lot as they extend duration, green arts that affect the entire party are very good for example. I have no arts gain tp in this vid or anything like that

Jinsei Cast If you have the expansion pass, that’s the gimmick for using Elma as a Blade, you get to use overdrive at the cost of consuming your party gauge.
The best thing about X is literally the experimentation of various builds and combinations. It takes a while, but it is always satisfying to do.

The time it takes to set this up is still more complicated than what happens in XC2.
I know you're poking fun at it, but both games have cheese strats, and you know it.
Not to mention the fact you're fighting something under your level in the midgame.
I get that it's a joke, but I don't know how you can say XC2 is objectively more complex in its systems.
I've never claimed that 2 is more complex. I know X is more complex, but complexity doesn't necessary make it a better or more interesting combat system. 2 has higher difficulties and a damage cap which can make the difficulty of that game much higher even if it isn't as complex. It still requires an understanding of things.
Yeah I probably could have fought a different enemy, but figured a story boss who's supposed to be menacing and hard would be a decent example. (also I think you're supposed to start doing fights like these with skells but skells kinda suck) This basically works on any enemy that doesn't instantly one shot my entire team. I could have waited for zu pharg or something but it would probably be a bit before I got there and just wanted to put a fun video out. I like X, it's a good game and I enjoy the combat if I'm using overdrive. But I've also never understood the mantra of since it's more complex, it's a better or more fun combat system.
Personally I find XCX to be the best Xenoblade because it harkens back to Saga, the battle system is good, but nothing beats that sci-fi feel

Switching weapons, pacing around the opponent, and more dynamic arts like sliding slinger etc .
Xeno 2 combat does feel more polished and thought through though. I don’t enjoy skell combat nor overdrive, but the ground combat just feels much more fluid than 2.
Also sprinting in the overworld is actually the best thing in X, no joke
Being broken on XC2 only takes you a few hours. Being broken on XCX takes you 100+ hours on your first try. That’s the difference. And also, the XC2 multipliers are stupid and fricking boring.

How to beat the superbosses:
1: Get ether dual guns and a knife
2: Use overdrive
3: Reach max count
4: Win
Ghosts won't work on nardacyon, and maybe pharsis. But you really can't go wrong with knife + any ranged weapon. I used sniper and knife to beat pharsis and found out that you can completely avoid being toppled during the animation of one of its healing arts (forgot the name). It probably helps with not being launched or staggered as well.

I think XC2 has a better combat system, but I think XCX does almost everything else better (save for main story), especially the sidequests an exploration.

I really like XCX, my favorite xenoblade but one huge problem I had with it was you have get your tp up to max or minimum until you can use overdrive everytime you turn the game on because outside of overdrive, you deal no damage, you have no defence and everything takes a month to kill

I know you jest but for some reason I had a really hard time understanding XCX's mechanics despite having no problems with understanding XC1 & 2. That said, dumbing this down by getting rid of all the jargon actually really helped and I just did an infinite overdrive. Now I feel really stupid.

I had so much trouble trying to do the infinite overdrive due to me not knowing how the system works and all the guides didn't go in depth on how it work, i only resently was able to learn how to do the trick and tested it on blood lobster (on the 3rd try i got a hang of it and destroyed him using ghost factory, primer, and Ultra slash) and it was so amazing.
I also didn't know a yellow art wont change the counter if it was at first red and instead had to be green or blue

Would you consider doing an XCX Speedrun or any xenoblade in general? They're some of my favourites of yours and they're really fun to watch
First priority is getting under 4:15 in the 2 speedrun when i have time again so I can try to submit for GDQ. Afterwards this would be in my considerations but I;d likely need to buy digital because of load times

And trust me guys you have to play a lot before you can even unlock overdrive and it takes a lot preparation to make it last infinitely.

chibiraptor Torna’s combat system is definitely an improvement from 2, but scrapping X’s battle system for the simplicity of the main series would defeat the whole purpose of it being a different game from 1 and 2 because it’s the gameplay is X’s only redeeming factor

If you wanna poke fun at this game's combat, can we talk about how every party member that isn't you sucks ass thanks to how grindy this game is and how dumb it is that they aren't able to upgrade in their own class trees?
It's like you can pick between being any character of 1 at any time, provided you do enough grinding, but you're stuck with a bunch of sharlas if you're not willing to do the same for at least the ones you like the most. And even then, there are those who are unsalvageable.

Just started this game for the first time after playing 1 and 2. The combat I had to go look up some guides online because I wasn't sure how anything connected to each other. I'm trying to use the Astral Crusader class since it has my favorite combination of weapons. I'd appreciate any tips in terms of which skills and arts to invest in. I only just got to chapter 5.

Wait, that’s how your supposed to play the game? I got stomped by that thing and had to glitch the fight by jumping in and out of my mech to not take damage. That fight literally made me quit that game cause I was underleveled.
