    I started making brown sugar and powdered sugar 3 yrs ago when the price went from 99cents to 4 dollars. Its so easy to make and last forever. I put jumbo marshmellows in my brown sugar to keep it from lumping up. Thank you for video

    We have food allergies in our family that eliminate most commercial foods. For a family of 5, I made basic staple mixes in bulk. Biscuit/pancake mix using 10 lbs of flour, 6 loaves worth of bread mix 11:57, basic cookie base, cake mixes, brownie mix, seasonings etc. Never did brown sugar and some of your others - I will be in the future.

    When you were talking about biscuits, I thought back to watching my mother do them. She would make a well in the flour bin with the back of her hand, take a handful (she never measured anything!) of lard and throw it in, a little baking powder and salt (why she threw a little salt over her shoulder, I never understood), and water (we couldn't afford milk or buttermilk unless it was the powdered junk that came in commodities). She would squeeze that mix with her fingers until it turned into a ball, then pinch off a little and roll it in her hands, throw it on the pan and pat the back of three fingers into the top to mash it down a little. I've tried to do it her way after I grew up but could never quite match it. I guess cooking for 8 kids on a VERY limited budget made her a pro. LOL

      @wardrobelion8300. One thing I have found helpful is to work out some basic recipes to have on hand for sauces, like a basic brown sauce, a basic Chinese sauce, and then I can just throw frozen vegetables in for stirfry. I can even make a fairly quick soup if I’m in the mood, but don’t want to put out a lot of effort.

      I’m working on the cooking for one problem too. My solution for pancakes and waffles is to make. A batch and put the extra in the freezer. I watch my granddaughter every Friday while my son works. I take them with me for an easy breakfast for the kiddo. I’m thinking of maybe making double batches to take over and put in his freezer to help him out over the weekend so he doesn’t have to cook so much and can spend more time with his kid. I also do all the dishes that build up over the week for him, he hates washing dishes lol, there aren’t usually that many because it’s just him during the week. I do my laundry and some of his while I’m there too just to help out.

    I love pantry stock mixes! Although the biscuit mix is a good tip, It doesn’t take more than a few minutes to make biscuits, anyway. I mix, fold and pat mine out, cut, then (I choose to) let the dough rest 30 minutes for the dough to relax before baking. Very tender, flaky biscuits. I do put up jars of taco, chili, and sloppy Joe seasonings, I have a jar of “Cream of _____” soup mix, and cake mixes. I haven’t done a brownie mix, but could certainly add it to my stock..

    You are goals!!! 🎉 I am moving in June to our first home and homestead with a nice sized pantry that I am SO excited to fill up with homemade preserves!! ✨🙌🏼 I have been limited where we have rented the last few years but I have learned a lot while waiting for my next chapter/large kitchen space! I am going to have to re-visit this video and recipes and try more of them once we are settled. Thanks for sharing! ❤❤❤

    I like to shop at our local Amish store, I find their prices to be much cheaper then the regular grocery store, and they have a lot of bulk items that I use to make bread and other baked goods, I will be using your jarred mixes for my pantry, so I can now eliminate grocery store boxed mixes when I don't want to hassle with getting everything out, thank you so much!!!!

    These are very good I have to admit. But I really wish there would be more content creators who would write for people who live in apartments or townhomes that don't have 10,000 storage areas

    • @charlanpennington3989
      @charlanpennington3989 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      New pantry for the apartment: there are some type of foot extensions for the bed. Long lidded plastic boxes for underbed. Set your mixes there. Keep only one of each kind in the kitchen. Infrequent ones stay under there. You can solve this problem. You can put rolling shelves or drawers into closets maybe. We are too close to food being more important than clothing. Any morsel you can provide for your family will be worth gold.

    Just discovered your channel. I like the idea of freezing ahead. I have tried this with boxed waffle mixes, but found they were dry literally and to the taste. I am going to try yours. I also like the time saving of having mixes prepped, instead of pulling all the ingredients out every time. Thank you

      For maybe helping with the dry waffles add the buttermilk instead of the milk. and add a few drops of water to your cooked waffles before reheating them helps too.

    • @richmondsplace
      @richmondsplace  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Vacuum sealing a mason jar is NOT a substitute for heat or pressure canning. It is just a way to remove oxygen from the jar. If you want to do perishable items such as fruits or vegetables you can use it still but, it needs to be kept in the refrigerator.
